There's probably going to be Federation Force content in this game, now that I think about it
It'd be kinda fun to have the Federation Force mech as a character. Never gonna happen with how hard that game bombed, but it'd be really neat.

And it'd be funny seeing the marine shrunk down in size with chibi proportions.

Federation Force had pinball in it?
The final boss fight is against a mind-controlled Samus grown to enormous size and stuck in morph ball form.

Unfortunately, the fight is really fucking bad. Which is a shame, because Federation Force had a couple really good boss fights and the idea of fighting a supersized Samus had a lot of potential.

Was that game's music any good? Can't be any worse than the random Psycho Bits song from Hunters.
It's okay. Not up to the Metroid standard, but not downright horrible like Other M.

The fight is pretty fetishy, but not even the good classic, giant-woman kind

It's just a giant morph ball and it's kind of humiliating for Samus (though she's used to it)

Can I just say the Smash website is a horrible mess to navigate?

Like I get you want big splashy images, but there's so much visual noise and the banner is so big you always have to scroll and ugh

I fucking hate the huge lower left corner being permanently covered by an entirely useless banner. What where they thinking? :/

The worst by far is Blastoise. Just look at the poor thing.

oh boy the blastoise hate again

they had to change the designs so they give the pokemon more flexibility so they can actually do fighting game moves, seriously charizard barely uses his arms in smash because of how tiny they are

That doesnt explain why it now looks like he has surgical kneepad implants rather than the original cut lines

User Warned: “Lazy Devs” Rhetoric
GyrPAaB.png

Imagine seeing this line out of context, and thinking

"This is it. The single moment that justifies Federation Force as a whole. Going from the hunter to the hunted. The master bounty hunter to just some simple rookie trying to live up to her shadow."

What should have been this cool rival fight was instead botched because the developers are lazy and have very little respect for Samus

the worst thing about blastoise is that the "toise" part isn't pronounced like the toise part of "tortoise"

terrible

One of the characters is a chandelier.

Blastoise is supposed to be a walking tank. If you're trying to make him flexible so he can do cartwheels, you've missed the entire point of the character design.

No. The game fawns over Samus like crazy; she rescues the Federation troopers twice after that scene, with the second rescue being the game's triumphant moment

And please don't call devs lazy just because you dislike something about a game. I think the game was only decent and the final boss fight was outright terrible and boring, but it was certainly not from a lack of effort.

but he has always had knee caps, they shrunked them down sure but the always had knee caps

009Blastoise_XY_anime.png

they just don't look like kneecaps cause of the outline which pokken doesn't have

looks more like armour/shell there which is probably the original design intention, and less like its under his skin.
I wish smash took some hints from the anime and pokken in regards to some things like Lucario using the staff like Kilik, but he looks the same as ever in Ultimate from what we can see.

Even bring in something like the mid air command grab from PM into Ultimate would make him more interesting.

The final boss is a 50 foot tall giant Samus that does nothing other than turn into a giant soccer ball. And it's played straight.

Thank goodness this series seems to be back on the right track...

Now that I think about it, it should be Metroid Prime 5 because we already got a fourth Metroid Prime game.

I always through the vitriol around Federation Force was so weird. A co-op game centered around Metroid Prime's core elements (exploration, puzzle solving, first person shooting) is a neat idea. Basically Metroid Four Swords. It was coming from Next Level Games, who recently had made the amazing LM2 and have had a history with Nintendo.

But people immediately flipped out after seeing barely any footage of the game. Granted, the game turned out to be not that good, but it was seemingly at least mediocre and not terrible.

Oh, no. No no no nooooooooooo.

Let's not pull out that "the developers are lazy and don't care" cherry. I'd agree that, even separated from the context of the rest of the game, this fight was still a terrible idea, yes. Dangling the whole question of whether or not Samus would even be in the game prior to release, and then revealing she'd be a story-important side character only for the game to end this way was a bad move. But the tide of public opinion was turned against Federation Force from the moment of its unveiling. Nintendo was afraid to market it until it was closing in on release, even after they gave it a delay for further development and polish. They had to know that they were sitting on a bomb. The response to the game's unveiling also had to put a lot of pressure on Next Level Games to deliver, and it had to suck when any public mention of it, whether it be in an article, a video, or what have you, resulted in mountains of dislikes and screeching rage in comment sections. The idea for the Samus fight had to have been locked in before that really poor E3 debut, and it's easily the most absurd, embarrassing part of the game, but given the general art style and tone of Federation Force, I can't imagine that they thought it would be received that way, much like they couldn't have expected the absolutely insane level of internet rage that zeroed in on the game from unveiling to release.

Misguided? Yes. Miscalculated? No doubt. Lazy and uncaring? No, no. If there's any reason that the devs didn't care, I imagine it had to be the stress that all that vitriol put them under. Next Level Games doesn't even list Federation Force among their developed titles on their own website because goddamn, why would they want to remember the shit they went through for this? It's a mediocre game with a poorly conceived final boss, not a crime against humanity.

The game fawns over in a superficial way then strips her agency (seems like a usual for Samus nowadays!)

Get outta here

And the final boss is absolutely phoned in. I didn't mean to say they were lazy overall, but the final boss is extremely simplistic and dull.

Welcome to most fighting games. Gotta keep the backgrounds simple to keep the framerate up.

And boy, did the framerate need help in vanilla Pokken.

Well its just a shame that the original art style is nowhere to be seen. The Naruto and Dbz games look so good in comparison, and that new Jump Force game looks godawful to me for the same reason.

Look, I didn't put much thought into my post when I said "lazy" but if you want a more detailed answer, I thought the final boss was incredibly uninspired, frustrating and just a shitty thing to do to Samus in general.

Federation Force seemed to have real trouble coming up with cool boss concepts.

The game's best boss fight was against a stack of boxes.

I can't claim to be a fighting game connoisseur but the only similar case I can think of are the Boxing Ring spectators in Smash 4 and that's moreso them being N64-level low-poly.

It just really stuck out to me in Pokken -- they bounce like balloons.

Well its just a shame that the original art style is nowhere to be seen. The Naruto and Dbz games look so good in comparison, and that new Jump Force game looks godawful to me for the same reason.

Having played it in person, it's as terrible as it looks.

why do they keep letting spike make licensed fighting games
