Hey Vena since you're here and are pretty knowledgeable on the subject, thoughts on using the free homebrew TX has on their site for actual homebrew stuff like emulation? Or do you think it'd be better to just wait for Atmosphere? I have no interest in piracy so their actual products are of no interest to me
it crashes all the time if you want to run any homebrew.

I didn't even know the Switch got hacked to the point pirated software was actually a thing yet. I assumed this was a possibility via physically modding the device.

Am I wrong with this? Has it already been busted open to 3DS levels where it's all software hacks to circumvent the system?

Not to that point yet, and Nintendo actually developed the security a bit better this time, so I don't expect it to get to the level the 3DS was, but it's been blown open.

Question: While I know it's probably not ethical because it will make the company look back socially, but is it possible for Nintendo to do some kind of "mass recall"? Sending your system in to Nintendo for a lightly updated version with a different Nvidia chip so that this doesn't happen again?

It honestly wouldn't be worth Nintendo's time or money.

The people who are doing this won't send their systems in and people who aren't hacking the consoles won't really care and them getting an updated console wouldn't really solve the problem in the first place.

It's better for Nintendo to work on fixing the back end and ban anyone who pulls crap like this.

Don't be surprised to see them start to crack down on people running CFW.

User Warned: Conspiracy Theory post
Odds these hackers work for Sony and are deliberately trying to make Switch seem unsafe for kids?

Yeah there's nothing to 'come off of'. It's disgusting. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you're not a parent of a young kid so maybe you lack the perspective on this. People 'laughing' at something like this is why the behavior exists in the first place.
You can think something is bad without flying into a blind outrage about it. Of course little kids seeing this kind of stuff is bad, but that doesn't mean someone is a monster if they let out an exasperated laugh at the whole thing.

I'm surprised game backups were available so soon when just a couple of months ago people here were insisting it would be a while. They even found a way to let games on banned consoles receive game patches.

Nintendo steps toward cleaning things up haven't been as effective as the narrative implied.

Things like this make me wonder why they bother trying to avoid web browser exploits, when it seems so easy for hackers to find a way to do dumb shit anyway.

they can do nothing about hte SoC problem and about the bans is cause Nintendo have been rather soft about em, they been simple limiting access to certain parts, like only limited to a game for example, im sure if nintendo cared enough to completely shut em off they could just wipe out the offender UID from their servers and he will be do. out of everything.

Really crappy from people, but not surprised at how loathsome some members of society are.

Yep, nothing more 'hilarious' than a 6 year old seeing pornographic images. Jesus Christ.

It is definitely inappropriate, and it is far from a good thing, but it isn't the end of the world if a kid sees a pornographic picture. It will happen at some point.

What I think is funny is that these hackers are going to end up with some very, very expensive plastic bricks.

I'm trying to figure out how Nintendo isn't making the profile pictures read-only, server-side, so that you wouldn't have been able to do this to begin with. Why the hell are they doing a two-way sync and accepting files to it.

Splatoon 2 is heavily moderated, and even then you'll see stuff slip through. Nothing like this, but hateful messages and such.
Yep, and you can report them and I assume they go into moderation at that point (I had to do it the other day and the guy's speech bubble just vanished so I couldn't see the content anymore. Out of interest, do people get anything from me telling them that their drawing/message is fresh? I love to tell people they're fresh.

Not sure, I've never posted a message in Splatoon myself

While true, I doubt Nvidia not having this exploit would have prevented hacking anyway. Maybe it wouldn't have happened this quickly but it's inevitable.
well, Nvidia fuck up aside, 5.0.0 removed 99% of all the whole hackers had found so at this point they would still be on Square zero. hell if anything it will hurt em most when the new SoC goes out and all the time they spent on teh current hacks become useless for future iterations.

So what is the technical reason Nintendo are not insta console id banning anyone who connects to the NN with any kind of CFW or modifications? Can they not see it, are the hackers able to spoof legitimacy?

They're probably hired by Microsoft to make it look like it was Sony to drive the wedge between them and the rest of the industry even deeper.

Or maybe that's what they want us to think.

Yeah hacking scene at this very early of the console's life is not good at all. The positive for the extremely small minority who want to play their legally owned retro games far too small compared to the negatives that affected many. Now not only multiplayer games that will posed to such risk, but also singleplayer games with asynchronus online feature. Good job Nvidia and whoever scum who sold their devkit on ebay.

Disappointing, to say the least.

I want MAME on my Switch but not if it comes with these shenanigans.

You guys would ban this guy?! I understand for using porn, but this is a very safe pic. Security-wise, having access to the devmenu is dangerous; I understand that too. You guys are way too harsh; this is an harmless pic.

My take is that Nintendo should allow user avatar as long as they are safe for everyone and ban all those that upload R18 (or warn users using questionable content (borderline not R18)).

That's my take on this.

Let me get it straight: using porn is NOT ok. It has a place and time and it's NOT in SMO.

There needs to be zero tolerance for this entire situation. If he can change his avatar to an unapproved one he can do any other number of things he shouldn't be able to do.

Atleast it isn't UNO.

For those that don't know, UNO on the 360 allowed people to use the 360 cam to replace their gamerpic under the name while the game was being played and was shown to everyone.

It was notorious for creepers showing their dicks on cam, and they eventually patched UNO (after a long time) to where you can only see 360 camera users if you have your camera enabled and plugged in as well
