I would wonder why it's a device and not simply a program for all capable platforms.

I absolutely would not.

Now, if they released a Vita 2 with improved streaming, sure, yeah, I'm here for that.

No. If I need a constant internet connection it defeats the purpose of portability.

Pack it up boys, this thread's done!

Now if you were talking about a console that stays under your TV and only streams games... Well, i would need to try it in order to see if my internet could handle it without ANY issue. And i really mean ANY issue or else it wouldn't even be close to worth it.

OP you basically described a PlayStation TV, a device that flopped. I bought one. Cool little device. The problem is it doesn't fit my life that well. I can play natively because I have a ps4. I have other cool games to play too. I thought I would use it as a ps1/PSP/Vita player but in practice there are just better games to play.

They still sell PS TV in my gamestop :P
Or "sell" them, they've had the same ones collecting dust in the store for some years.

I'm actually considering buying one for vita/psp games as the vita is impossible to get anymore but after reading this maybe not..

I given how loud my PS4 can get, I would have considered something like this. With net neutrality gone, I'm concerned about the additional bandwidth costs and whatever other fees an Internet provider might decide to add. Something such as this could be really expensive in the near future.

Personally no. While I have all the hardware requirements to make the best of such a setup, I'm not interested in a streaming solution at all.

Your hardware isn't the problem when it comes to latency that's software, your isp and hops to the streaming service are. You and most people don't debloat so your software config would fuck over your hardware even if it was capable.

Hardware isn't the problem with networking tech these days.

If it was streaming games that ran on monster monster specced computera YES. This should be the future.

If it is a streaming box that plays the same "ps5" games no way ever

Streaming services need to work on a device I already have, I'm not buying one for streaming, if it's like a $20 roku stick then give me one for free like some streaming services already do

No, not until streaming is nearly imperceptible from running on dedicated hardware. Which it may never be.

But then I own a 1080ti and a G-Sync monitor, so my impossibly high standards aren't really the target for this type of service.

Only if it's Wii U quality regarding image artifacts, performance and latency.
Remote Play and Steam Link is not good enough.

I'd be inclined to buy a better local streaming PS Link box that I can connect to other TVs. Hook up a PS3 and PS4 in the media room, but either could be streamed to any other room with a PS Link seamlessly.

Depends how good the streaming was. I bought a Vita partially because of remote play, but it had significant problems in 2d games and was unplayable in any 3d games so yeah I'd have to wait for some pretty comprehensive reviews.

Hell, no.

My primary area of interest is fast-paced games. Arcade games, arcade-style games, and others like them. Those are the kinds of games I make, and those are the kinds of games I enjoy most. In other words, games that would break if ANY degree of lag is present.

I will never, ever stream gameplay, unless it's an RPG or something. And to those people that say: "streaming is the future!" my reply to you is: well, not for me, it isn't. And I can't be the only one.

For that price, absolutely. Though I don't think they would sell it for anything close to that price.

It loses some functionality for me, because as a handheld I would want to take it with me... but it's basically useless in the car. Make it Vita/PSP compatible and I'm in like Flynn. But then it's basically a Vita..

If Sony could put together a streaming service that's anywhere near as impressive and responsive as those which I've used on PC. They will, someday, and I'll probably buy it. They've not convinced me with any of their streaming solutions today, though. Input latency is still a huge concern with both in-home Remote Play and dedicated game streaming to your home through PSNow. Nothing at all like my experiences with Steam Streaming and Nvidia GeForce Now, which are responsive enough to allow for competitive online play, let alone responsive single player play.
Microsoft, I'm not sure I'd ever need one from them, especially not if I have one from Sony instead.

Not a chance. You're at the mercy of your provider and Sony/MS's servers being up. No net connection, no playing. Plus the lag.
