Good trailer/ad. This won't affect Sony short term but when the PS5/Xbox 2 come out and everything is reset I think it will hurt them if they haven't fixed their bullshit.

Reading comprehension, friend. Sony are the "assholes" in that sentence.
Welp things can change pretty quickly in the gaming industry as the last 3 generations have shown. The anti consumer policy of Sonys will catch up with then eventually if they dont change.
It kind of blows me away that Sony is squandering every single drop of consumer goodwill they earned at the start of the generation.

You'd still have competition, having crossplatform collaboration or even a standardized game format does not mean that every console, and every ecosystem would be the same. There's still plenty of room for competition within that framework.
The market leader typically gets to act how they want which usually includes arrogance in some form. Did y'all just have selective amnesia about how Microsoft did the walled garden stuff with the 360?

After seeing the Arcade version of DK on the Switch via Hamster's involvement, a game no one thought would ever see the light of day due to licensing issues... I wonder if Nintendo would be open to the idea if a third party (probably Activision or whoever has the Bond license now) were able to sit down with both and hammer out the details

You know for how long I've been invested in cross-play it's still super weird to see Xbox's and Nintendo's colors/logo in the same trailer together.
This feels like the future, and it's great a creative game about building and exploring together like Minecraft is at the front of the push for a united community.
I mean I don't care personally, I don't play these games. It just seems like it's being pushed that you are either meant to have an xbone and switch, or just a ps4.
This is amazing honestly. And yes this stuff does matter to gamers. I am going fishing to Canada next week, and my boys with me can play Minecraft on the Switch with their friends at home who are on Xbox. And with this Switch update for Minecraft Xbox achievements are now available when playing on there too. This is what being consumer/gamer friendly is all about, console wars be damned.
If you read my posts in this very thread you would see that I don't agree with Sony's stance but I get why they're doing it. They have the clout to get away with it for now and don't really care, similar to how MS got to get away with arrogant shit when they were in front.

Nintendo and Microsoft promote crossplay on one of the biggest games ever made, and your first thought is this. Interesting.

Whataboutism is a bad argument. Gaming and tech in general has changed so much since the 360-era I'm not sure how anything they did back then applies today.
The crazy thing is Sony had ample time to respond to this. They saw the writing on the wall with games like Rocket League. They had to know Minecraft and Fortnite Switch would be a huge sticking point that they could have got ahead of. Maybe this will effect Sony longterm, maybe not. But this erosion of godwill is far more damaging to the PlayStation brand than just letting people crossplay.
(On a related note, the more I think about it Banjo in Smash is more likely than it ever was.)

I think you're overestimating the importance of crossplay this late in the generation. It'd be one thing if Sony sticks to their arrogant stance during next gen but I believe they are correctly betting on any crossplay controversy not moving the needle enough to matter.
I mean, it's not everything, though.
They are big factors in success, obviously, but, money is everything, and, until they stop making it, they have no reason to change.
