And this is why generalizations don't work.

lol damn it I was looking for a way to tie the 2 together.
Mr. Priest! *SLAP*
The edgy atheist, right on time, in every religion thread
What is baffling about it? It's just a welcome in to the church, its not a formal commitment. The idea of infant baptism is absolutely baffling to me.
That said, this priest should be reprimanded and removed from any baptism duties.
You apparently missed the mod warning.Gotta indoctrinate them whilst they still can't tell the difference between reality and the tooth fairy.
Well it is a formal commitment, but for the parents and the church, not the childWhat is baffling about it? It's just a welcome in to the church, its not a formal commitment.

It's called FAITH! Stay on topic.
How could anyone find this offensive?
We have our beliefs and you have yours, that's fine. Moving along...baby slapping sucks, huh?being as against child indoctrination is not the same as trashing religion all together. Faith is no sheild.
Hah. Please. It's got nothing to do with that. You apparently missed the mod warning.

As someone with a toddler, I would have knocked his oldass out.
Speaking from experience it's a bit of a hassle to get done later on in life, like circumcision.
The way the fathers expression changes, if the priest wasnt holding the baby I think this whole thing would have played out a lot differently.
... i'd rather someone have the choice of getting it done then it being done to them without permission. You can see the tone of the room change the moment he does that. When the baby was crying, everyone was just standing around awkwardly laughing to themselves, but when the slap happens you see the "Oh shit" cross everyone's faces. The guy who I'm assuming is the dad is trying to pull the baby away from the priest before the video ends.

It's just a Catholic thing, right? The idea of infant baptism is absolutely baffling to me.

Translation (of what I could get)
Priest: "It's a tantrum, he is just doing a tantrum.
I am going to drop water on his forehead, and cheek ... And after that we will kiss the kiddo, because he will then be a little Christian."
<child continues to cry>
"Ohmyohmyohmy"
"Calm down."
"Calm Down." <hard slap>
Child cries even harder
"CALM DOWN! "<Grabs the kid's face>
Mother: "No..but, he is afraid, it's not a tantrum!"
Priest: "You must calm down!"
Other Woman grabs the Priest by the arm- "Sir!"
Father: "Hey!"
Priest: "You will get calm, you will get calm." / grabs head closer to his face
<child cries intensifie>
Father (hard to understand) grabing child. "No No..."
Father pulls child away, Priest grabs further
Mother: "Let him Go!"
Indoctrination. It's just a Catholic thing, right?
I've only attended non-denominational churches... baptism is something you choose to do. And it's not the process of becoming a Christian. I don't get why they do it to babies either.
An underlying reason for sure. However I want to see the text they use from the Bible to justify it. Catholics seem to do a lot of stuff that's not in the Bible... practicing useless traditions... which is what Jesus was preaching against.
yes indoctrination is great for young budding minds /s
topic: disgusting
The parents showed incredible restraint. You could easily see the mom got immediately uncomfortable - even when other people tried to intervene he still wouldn't let go until the (I think?) dad wasn't gonna take any more of that shit.
This isn't an issue with religion. This is an issue with an old man being an asshole. Old man or not, clergy or not, I would've not shown anywhere near that much restraint.
