There is a useful plugin that lets you hide every thread you don't wanna see :)

Get out with these kind of responses, everyone has their own problems to be looking at negativity in the world when OP just wanted a fun moment in OT browsing fun topics. If you are eager to be involved in politics why even post here instead of marching out there? Stop with the keyboard warrior thing.

Said warriors hooked me up with donation and protest organization resources that I have used though.

It does affect the whole world. Not as strongly as America, and you may feel that it doesnt affect you personally, hut globally but it does. And it can get worse (I'm not even American).

I disagree. I took a month or two break or so from here and a lot of social media websites and barely heard of Trump for about 2 months, and I got along just fine and the world didn't collapse. My mental health improved significantly. If you're not American then what's going on there is not as relevant to you as you think.

Also, I feel like a lot of American rhetoric is divisive in nature and this is fueled by their 24/7 news cycle. For example on the NFL protests, I don't want to hear redneck beer bellies think the military and patriotism is on death's doorstep because a couple of football players didn't stand for the anthem, but this is all anyone on the news talks about for a couple of days. It's textbook example of making a mountain out of a molehill. When you're not American it's easy to get sick of this and not deal with this nonsense if you don't have to.

I checked out during E3 for the first time in months to see how it was holding up.

It's a cesspool, really and truly. Blatant sexism, Trump supporters, the term "SJW" thrown around regularly.

And it's dead. Even during E3, it was fucking dead.

Just reading around there yesterday, I can't help but feel this thread is a response to one of their posters taking a break because of how shitty it is there now (low grammar low information posts to rile the same people up) with very few posts for fun

So of course someone had to make an equivalent "both sides" post here even though we do have plenty of non-political posts about comics, movies, tv, life etc

This is explicitly a concern trolling thread where not ignoring current events means everyone is engrossed in some outrage culture and do nothing in real life because the people who project that image actually ignore current events and do nothing in life; but they just want to talk about games and how women shouldn't be in them

Getting complacent is how you got into this mess in the first place. We have to keep this shit at the top of our minds to avert this from happening again.

Now you are being desilusional.

See why negativity is bad for your life?
Thanks for diagnosing me. I thought I saw children in cages. It was actually Desi Arnaz.

I agree, people are overplaying why people are banned. and moderation is needed on sites i really dont care how people feel about it to maintain order you need to have some decency in posts and the mod team here has done a pretty damn good job of it.

No, they are not.

I received a 14 day ban for LITERALLY posting the definition of the word "tame" from dictionary.com. Copied and pasted.

I was told I was trolling because I read the context of a sentence different than the OP. Disagreeing with the OP on a definition of a word caught me a 14 day ban.

It was absurd.

Again: do you have any idea what foundation this place was built upon?

This is not the forum for you if you just want video games and memes.
When you look at it that way, what is the justification for even having seperate gaming and off topic sub forums in the first place?

That just lets gaming stay in its safe, trump-free bubble. If people need to be exposed to this for the public good, why does gaming side get to skate off scot free?

Yes. This is the same community that came from GAF, you know Gaming Age Forum. This is a gaming forum first, everything else second. Like I said, just make a new section where all news and politics can be in one place. No need to mix topics like "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Review Thread" with "USCIS will form a task force to strip immigrants who are naturalized Americans of citizenship". I feel like these kinds of topics should be separate.

And yes this is the forum for me. If this is the place for you to strictly talk politics and world issues, then you should probably spend your time somewhere else.
You could show some small measure of self-discipline and not view those threads you dislike.

Not certain I agree with 'outrage culture' but for me there is certainly a habit of people being incredibly hyperbolic in their responses. I find my self rolling my eyes often looking at the responses to some trump threads.

You don't get to fucking tone police people being rightfully angry at injustices around the world.

When you look at it that way, what is the justification for even having seperate gaming and off topic sub forums in the first place?

It's a false equivalency. There a lot of OT options for posters to enjoy. There is even a whole gaming forum about it. It's ok!

Best advice is to only click on something that you want to read and avoid anything that you don't

Is this a problem for you when the news media does the same exact thing?
If this is the place for you to strictly talk politics and world issues, then you should probably spend your time somewhere else.

Who said they only strictly want to talk politics? They're not asking for your Jurassic World threads to be moved, you're asking for their political ones to be moved because you find them unsightly/ overbearing.

What is don't click this thread for 200?

I say your sadness is normal and good. You should be sad. You should probably be angry too. Things are extremely fucked on planet Earth right now. We need to channel our sadness and pain into creating the future we want before we have no future at all.

It doesn't affect you personally, and me neither for all that matter, but it affects the world for sure. When the biggest nation in the world goes all Neonazi, cuts himself from his allies and start to get friends with dictators, it has an effect on the whole world, even if we don't notice it.

Anyways, leaving that out before we go full off-topic... It's fine if you cut out of the news and your mental health improved. Seriously, do whatever the best for you because health is always first, get out of Era, use plugins, ignore threads or users... all of that it's fine.

My only problem is coming here and saying that Era should have a sub-forum for the "trash", sorry but if the news affect you is on you sorely, and you're the only one that has to do something, not the rest of us.

Everyone that came from Era knew this forum would be this way, because this is what we were before.

Not a bingo in the slightest. You're literally 100% wrong. This place is absolutely a place to discuss social issues, and was built very much in part to do so.

You're wrong. Just ask the admins or any of the community resellers...

When you look at it that way, what is the justification for even having seperate gaming and off topic sub forums in the first place?

That just lets gaming stay in its safe, trump-free bubble. If people need to be exposed to this for the public good, why does gaming side get to skate off scot free?

It doesn't? Gaming related social issues get posted and discussed there frequently.

I browse almost daily (thanks to downtime at work) and I've become more and more ambivalent about it, because every other thread is some terrible news related to politics or social issues. I get that they're important and we shouldn't look away, but how can you not get depressed after a while?

I can already see the "Take a break" posts - yeah I know, but where can I do that other than the gaming section?

These are all from the FIRST page of EtcetEra/OT:

I'm not sure what the point of the thread is, perhaps just discussing the experiences of dealing with all negative news/reality on the internet, or come up with cool ideas about resetera. Would a politics subforum work to move a large % of threads out of regular OT - would that be good or bad?

What are your thoughts?

Inb4 privileged white man can't deal with the reality of others.

I try to avoid EtcetEra as it seems to be nothing but an America-bashing free for all. There needs to be a political sub-forum so this stuff can have its own place. I await my second ban for voicing my opinion.

If the OP feels like other threads are getting him down, why not make some positive threads of his own?

No reason why we can't include some fun threads in between other threads containing important news, and complaining about the other threads isn't going to make them go away. They are there for a reason

Wow. I cant believe it, but you're right. I thought it was just a human response to the noticeable increase in distress the forum was experiencing, but it makes so much more sense that it's a troll trying to rouse dissent and tear what makes Era great down by presenting "alternative" viewpoints on current events.

If what you claim is true, this thread should be locked and scrubbed clean of bad faith. We cannot allow them to gain power here.

Gross, but not ban worthy.

No, sorry, but this forum was built with social issues as part of the foundation of its policies and intent.

You're literally wrong about this.

Love it when people end with "I'm a victim and I dare you to ban me so you'll prove it".

Wish that was worthy of a perm ban honestly.

America doesn't get to have a gold star at this point.

It needs to get bashed into oblivion as long as it keeps prosecuting, killing and jailing the downtrodden, and rightfully so.

Your shitty opinion is not ban worthy though, so you don't get to be a martyr about it

When the Nazis started the internment camps, it didn't affect the whole world, just the jews, commies and gays.

Until it did affect the whole world
What's sad is that the rest of the world can't do anything militarily, even if Trump just starts executing minorities tomorrow. We Americans better really hope our votes go Democrat in 2018 and 20.

Yesterday was pretty abnormal, amount-of-news-wise, so I can at least understand the thoughts revolving around that.

ResetEra is a global forum, but the majority of our users reside in the US, so threads and posts are going to skew that direction in large amount. It's a site that is primarily user-generated content, after all.

We aren't going to "sanitize" the news, unless it's something that's specifically designed for shock value - e.g., "3-year-old dismembers her father with rusty spoon." If you don't want to read or discuss the news, don't click on the thread. If you can't stop yourself, several people have mentioned scripts that will hide threads for you, so perhaps that's the best option.
