User Warned: Platform warring.
Like the ones that defend or shrug off, having to pay an online fee to play a free game?

This one is still a head scratcher to me lol. You never hear about it yet Xbox "pro-consumer" fans are willingly giving them money to play a FREE game. Thank god Phil Spencer is looking out for the gamers.

I can't see any PlayStation player suffer with that. The console has crossplay with pc and mobile.

Sony is just not giving their gigantic userbase for free to Microsoft.

They are a corporation not a Ong so they are right.
You miss the point that Sony is dragging their feet to a better future for all consumers, not just their closed minded followers.

I just cant imagine why this is an issue. I dont care about cross play. Enough players on the main console.

Hype over nothing

Yeah sure, small number of forum dwellers. Majority don't by care and the lack of cross platform from Sony this gen has not hurt them.

I'm sure people said the exact same thing about used games and microsoft before this gen started.

Sony better either have a resolution for this before they want to push ps5 or hope people have short enough memories and that microsoft doesn't deliberately capitalize on this.

I just cant imagine why this is an issue. I dont care about cross play. Enough players on the main console.

Hype over nothing

Did the thought that people might ever want to play with someone (such as, say, I dunno, a friend?) who has a different console just never occur to you?

Yep, until it makes business sense for Sony to offer cross-platform play with other consoles there's no point in them doing it. It only stands to benefit Xbox & Nintendo, there needs to be more incentive for Sony. I'm impressed that they even offer PC cross-play.

Do I think it'd be nice to have? Sure. Why not. It doesn't affect my situation, but clearly others think that they'd benefit from it.

Frankly for 99% of Playstation owners this is a non-issue. People didn't buy a Playstation so they can play Fortnite with their friend who's playing on a Switch. They buy a Playstation for their exclusives, like they do for the Switch and Xbox. Try preaching cross-play to the person who is playing God of War. Try preaching the overpriced hardware and software for Switch to the person playing Breath of the Wild. Try preaching a lack of Xbox exclusive games to the person playing Halo.

I don't really know Sony has any choice but to play the walled garden approach. I mean if you think about it Playstation is now one of the biggest if not the biggest pillars for the company. Sony is a company who is seeing almost all the other business units struggling or failing to stay afloat. So the importance of maintaining the successful model of Playstation as it is can't be overstated. The problem is I think that is increasingly becoming a a short term goal in a long term game. You can clearly see the writing on the walls and the shifts the gaming industry is moving toward. Open platforms and ecosystems along with cross play between services are eventually going to win out with far less importance on the specific hardware you play on. At some point Sony will have to give in or face their own demise.

And that's why it's anti-consumer, I shouldn't HAVE to choose one of my family members over the other in an age where the technology to overcome this obstacle exists. It precisely why anyone saying it won't affect Sony at all is deluding themselves. No one asked for it probably because PC players would wipe the floor with console players because of the better accuracy with m/kb.
Technology has overcome the obstacle of us needing to buy a specific platform to play first party exclusives. We tolerate that act and its business motivations but not Sony's cross play stance that is rooted in the exactly the same motivations? "Technology" is hardly a good reason.

Sony has crossplay with pc. I don't see why Sony should benefit Xbox consumers. You guys behavior like childs and forget that is a business.

Why would you as a consumer ever argue for not having it, even if you don't use it? Why do you give a rats arse what might arguably make business sense for sony?

This is exactly the kind of dumb shit that cost microsoft this gen back before this e3 started with "consumers don't really care for used games", or gave the ps3 a seriously bad start with "just get a second job".

Ok I understand, Sony doesn't have a reason to cross play with xbox since I recall last gen Sony wanted that with I think it was COD? Not sure, anyways I wish they could at the very least have it cross play with the switch since I feel Nintendo is kinda doing something different, PS4/Swtich cross play would be pretty cool imo.
Yes, this is a point people seem to miss. Switch being a handheld alters the dynamic, and due to this could make an Xbox now a more attractive console purchase than a PS4 for crossplay and crosstransfer with the only handheld on the market. Xbox benefits boths ways really.

Lol @ 'emptier lobbies' that's one of those things that sounds like it could be true, but isn't really a problem on consoles. It is on PCs. I think there may still be a healthy titan fall 1 community on xb1, and it was dead on pc in a month.

I have a hard time believing this, especially considering i played SFV. The connection for SFV, especially at launch was awful, which is more likely the issue. It sounds like you came to the conclusion that it was cheating, but im betting it was, in general, a connection issue.
So how disabling PC fixed my battle issues? It just since launch I don't have unfair battle anymore.

And being a bit more detailed the issues mostly happened when I were winning in the second battle... it got me crazy... I won the first round, take the advantage in the second and for nowhere the guy start to teleport and my moves stop to hit it.

Is that really connection issues? I guess I had a match recorded... I see if it is on my HDD yet to upload.

Wow, this level of fanboysim and corporate defending isn't what I excepted from ERA. I wish I got paid to defend billion dollars conglomerate on internet forums too.

It is a fact that it's better financially for Sony to play this game... In the short term at least. Whether this will erode consumer opinion of Sony is the big question.

But that is more a question of ownership of IP over anything else. I would actually be a proponent of game consumption becoming like other media. You can buy the box to play it on, but everyone would have access to the same games. To hell with exclusives. I want to play Nintendo, Sony and MS IP's on the best tech I can. But since that won't happen and the exclusives differentiate consoles I won't make that argument.

But if a game is 3rd party, across all systems, and can be played in conjunction by all platforms except one, then why bar it. If Sony exclusives are as great as they are claimed to be GoW and Horizon and Uncharted will be great enough to sell Playstations anyway right? Why block crossplay and even worse, why hijack an account?

Because that fanboy BS infects people's minds and encourages them to make fallacious arguments in defense of awful corporate policy.

Everyone with even a modicum of common sense should be able to agree this is bad policy.

Publishers are on board, developers are on board, gamers are on board and Nintendo/MSFT are on board. The only outliers are Sony and their apologists.

It's been obvious Sony has less to gain by allowing Crossplay. MS would stand to gain the most. Which is why MS refused Crossplay when they had less to gain. It's pretty standard business.

Are there really benefices to have a even bigger pool? Like there are beneficies between a 80k pool and a 60k pool?
Yes, a bigger playerbase is always a benefit. And within 2 years Switch+Xbox will be the bigger pool too. Although by then too we're also looking at impending next gen launches and base resets.

If I played fortnite and wanted to play on switch you know what I'd do? I'd make a new account just for that..

Because as we all know "it's only cosmetic" right?

i would believe one, but not 5 out of 8. Sounds like connection issues to me. People scream "hacks" all the time when they lose. Its just how it is.

Maybe PC and PS4 were having connection issues at launch idk. All i know is SV had terrible connection issues for a while. Thats a netcode problem more than anything else.

It was my first time playing the online battles with the game... and yes in the first 8 battles 5 PC ones where screwed.

I never changed the Only PS4 option off again so I can talk about how it is today but I don't need to because I'm not having any issue anymore.

This would only make sense if there were only two platforms.

In reality, you have multiple platforms, and all those platforms are supporting cross-play among them, but one of them isn't (at least not with all of them). That makes the outlier's platform less appealing. The developers want to do cross-play, and the other platforms are doing it among themselves besides Sony, people really think Sony is going to come out on top of this vs the developers and other platforms? It is less appealing to buy a cross-platform multiplayer game on Playstation if all the other platforms support cross-play for the game(s) but the Playstation doesn't.

Also it's so blown out of proportion of how advantageous cross-play is to other platforms, the games are already multiplatform, what needs to sell a multiplatform game is the quality of the platform of choice for the consumer, restricting cross-play is worsening that, not retaining some advantage.

They'll have far less to gain if people stop buying PS4s over this

boicot-modern-warfareunjof.jpg

thinking that people will stop buying ps4 just for that is like thinking that BF fans wont buy Battlefield 5 just because there's women.

I'm always incredibly surprised at people defending such a blatant money/greed fueled decision. People itt will defend Sony for limiting what they can do on the platform like this.

Sony allowing cross play/cross progression would only be a good thing for their customers.

LMAO at the people who defend this corporation because "it doesn't affect them", stop being selfish because if this was the other way around and it did affect you, then you'd be pissed. This fornite issue also isn't even about crossplay but just using an ACCOUNT that so happened to play on PS4 and now you can't use it on switch/xbox? Its just account sharing not even crossplay, it's stupid.

I don't think anyone who actually thought about it for two seconds doesn't understand why Sony is doing this.

We're just pissed at them anyway.

What are these beneficies? What change in gaming experience having a even bigger pool of players?
A bigger base affords more multiplayer opportunities. It's pretty basic, this is a particularly bigger benefit to smaller games that might have issues sustaining an active community on one machine.

There's a reason basically every dev wants this.

America should ban all immigrants and their children from entering our walled garden. We don't hate them immigrants, it just makes financial sense to not let them in. It's a simple business decision.

bruh did you just equate people who want to play fortnite across consoles to misogynists?

No, i just said that people complain for everything on internet, specially to games, but at the end of the day, the same people that says will not buy, they are there Day one.

Dont put words in my mouth please, thank you.
