Some of you guys have pretty impressive stuff, I love browsing threads like this...

Here's my humble shelf that is in need of some serious dusting:

Finally got my partial collection up on a bookshelf and was wondering what you guys use to keep your games straight? What do you put behind your games so that they are all lined up evenly?

Well. I hate to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to share my 3DS collection! It's a complete NA first party set + a few others.

My games are split between two locations right now, so I'm just going to post some pictures I took from a few years back. I believe these are ones I took to post on GAF. I've added a few games, and sold some of the Limited Run Games doubles.

I put the post in quotes because there are a bunch of images. It's a horror collection and a few sets of games from different developers or game series.

Does anyone else here collect horror games?

Edit: At my current place I only have a bit of my collection, but I got a shelf loaded with some of my all time favorite console games for easy access.

Still continuing to work on getting mine displayed how I'd like, but here is an update.

Still working on the basement so I still don't have everything displayed like my larger Collectors Editions (e.g. BoTW Master Edition), Amiibos, Wii U kiosk, etc...

Still making slow progress though.

I've got some games but the market lost its fun for me. The Saturn stuff I picked up in the 00s was a lot of fun but now everything is just absurdly expensive. I never got around to Albert Odyssey and Lunacy, for example, and now I never will. It can still be fun to find the random mispriced game but the needles in haystacks are just getting rarer. If anything, I feel the burden of having too much and think about getting rid of it. Beats getting a tailored insurance policy.

I definitely pick them up as I find them and plan on getting more. They tend to be pretty expensive for older titles as they were niche outside of a couple major franchises. I do own a decent amount including some pricey ones like Rule of Rose.

Yeah, they're awesome games but some of them have unfortunately gotten far too expensive, especially some of the PS2 stuff. It would be cool to see some of the games like Haunting Ground, Rule of Rose, the Fatal Frames and others get modern ports, remasters or reprints to make them more accessible for people to experience them.

I think I lucked out and started picking them up just before they started spiking.

I've been on a survival horror kick, this is a good reference post for me.

I dont have cute pics, but I documented mine in a Google Sheet here -> link

Nice stuff. I really need to get a more organized Google document going for my games.

After checking the second page, i'm not sure anymore, some here are freaking impressive stuff... funny to see a snatcher like in a middle of the shelf, because it's another expensive between 50 other lol

I don't have any great pics of my collection, but a couple of the less bad ones:

A tiny bit of my Mega Man collection. This is the rare wall/shelf which holds most of the limited release stuff. Dotted around my room is basically every single individual release from Europe, Asia and the USA, bar one Chinese special edition PC release of X8...

A decent chunk on the Vita collection. It sits at around 500 physical games now give or take a couple. I'm slowly getting through all of them.

A small bit of my Capcom collection, which like the MM collection is everywhere in my room. I felt this one nicely summed up the rare part of my collection with the Captain Commando PSOne port and the rare Supergrafx ports of 1941 and GnG.

Not pictured is my Yakuza collection, which is just all the Yakuza releases out of Japan.

Not the biggest collection, though alot of this stuff has sentimental value to me, because I've held onto almost all of my gaming stuff ever since I was little. Featuring a cameo appearance of Animal Crossing's very own Tom Nook! Who better for a thread about collecting $$$

No wonder, that's a great display! I especially love the stepped glass/acrylic? shelves. Seeing those old consoles makes me want to get my own and try them out.
They are glass! My camera sucks on my phone so the picture is a tad blurry to see all the games. As you can tell I hit SNES super hard haha. Tried to get every game as mint as possible.

Just got this setup yesterday :) Not the biggest collection, but I'm pretty happy with:
Complete Smash bros, Zelda(attemped to present in the game release order), Animal Crossing and Mario series amiibos
My almost complete Monster hunter Amiibo set and my liger zero all from my Japan trip last year so sentimental value there is high :D
I have almost all the PS2, PS3, XBOX, 360, DS, 3DS, WII and WIIU games I want. (not going for complete collections, just holding onto ones I really like.

Theres a lot in here I haven't played, and somehow some of the kids games ended up here (Singstar..... :\ ) but overall pretty happy with it and how it turned out.

Still madly impressive.

I actually really like this pic. I think "focused" collections are way more impressive than just pics of shelves filled with games, personally.

You should do a bigger pic of all your Mega Man stuff.

Game collecting, like all other collecting hobbies, gets expensive quick. Retro collecting has always amused the shit out of me, like is your childhood worth that much money? JFC the prices and hoarding. Digital is the way forward, just make local and cloud storage backups and you're golden.

To those of you all who have giant rooms with floor-to-celling shelves

(lol. I'd love to visit the video game museum in texas but, that isn't happing for a long while, however the owner/founder of the museum owns an independent gaming shop in NJ, so i'll visit that)

The focused collection shit, like the collection of just horror games and the collection of just tiger handhelds, fucking legit.

Collect every game collections? Kinda hoarding.

Most of mine was bought for $5-15 a game back when collecting wasn't huge. Up until last month I've never spent more then $40 on a game. Finally broke down and bought Earthbound for $220. Bunch of the PS2 stuff was $50+ it's getting up there now, if you want any PS2 games now's the time to buy em before they get crazy.

Wow... I knew that some ps2 was expensive but... Whew. There goes the fun people. :( The prices continue to rise and collecting is now borderline speculation. Sucked all the fun right out of it.

I got lucky myself, during a brief phase in 07-08 where I collected some PC games. I managed to get Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4 for about $50 total. Silent Hill 4 is the only one I still have installed on my PC, as one of my Silent Hill 3 discs is destroyed and I have the HD collection for my PS3. I'm sure I have some PC games worth something but thankfully Digital Distribution has destroyed the value of most of what I have. I say thankfully, because I haven't had any good experience with holding onto discs.

For example, I do have some leftover ps2, Xbox games around from those days. PS2 games like Viewful Joe, Killer7, Metal Slug anthology, Alien Hominid, a few others, they play perfectly from the disc using a PS2 emulator. (I've even got a 4:3 lcd monitor!) The xbox games are all a lost cause. None of them can be read from my blu ray drive due to Microsoft's copy protection from back in the day. I could rebuy a 360 cheap but...... that's just another dead end. Microsoft is working hard on backwards compatibility but licensing issues mean that even if one day I got an xbox one I'll never play Jet Set Radio Future on it, ever. No word on PS1 classics on the PS4 on the sony side of things. Nintendo is obsessed with releasing drip feed Netflix style shit and locking old games into plastic toys. Sony and Nintendo must love the mysticism that surrounds certain old games.

Basically, if it something that requires aging hardware to run, it doesn't have value to me anymore. PS2 games are pretty much the only games in town in that regard, with maybe PSX games included.

Even big box PC game prices are nuts. Those silent Hill games complete go for 100+ cib.

Those Psygnosis Amiga games go for a shit ton as well, sucks because I wanted to collect them for the art.

I'm priced out of them, but maybe someday!

As for gen 6 increasing in price is due to people who grew up with it finally being old enough to have expendable income. It's only going to get worse as more reach that age, and mix in if PS5 and NextBox have full BC. Get what you want now before it's too late.

I've seen the horrors of waiting stuff out.

If you are looking to start collecting GC, Ps2 (starting to go up a bit), Xbox, 360 and PS3 games are good pickings right now.

On the handheld side I'd add DS (and PSP) to that list. Still pretty cheap but starting the inevitable rise. Probably a bit too late on the Gameboy Advance side, though it largely depends on whether you are looking for Complete or Loose carts.

Thanks :) I'd love to get a pic of the wider Mega Man and Capcom collection but between the poor lighting in the room and me kinda having them everywhere (PC boxed Mega Man releases come in every size known to man) I'm not quite sure how I'd manage it. But if I can I'll be sure to post it here.

On collecting in general I gave up getting random good games for each system when I realised I was not playing them fast enough (I'd buy on impulse, then might not get to the game immediately which felt like a waste of money) so I went with MM and Capcom as I a) love the series very much and b) am playing through all of Capcom's games starting at Vulgus in 1984. Its actually been a really fun project, and has been a great excuse to pick up the Capcom classics I've been missing.

Well, the pictures that I have now are a bit old but I do have one that is only missing 4 games.
