Always tradeoffs between fidelity and performance.

Some games are hard locked 30fps even on PC.It's not going to happen, ever. Advertising "4k" means a lot more to consumers than "60hz".
I assume there will be more options for games as consoles become more and more like PC's, but then I ask, for all console players who are so die hard about 60fps, why not jump to PC where 60fps is only the beginning?
How many modern RPGs have you even played at 60fps? It's quite easy to not miss what you've never had.As an RPG fan, I couldn't care less about 60 fps. I like my games slow and sweet. I see how it would benefit action games, though.
Why do you think people don't understand that?Always tradeoffs between fidelity and performance.

Good post agreeBased on what we've seen, I really truly feel that we would have seen this if consoles had had better CPUs. I mean, heck we already do see a huge rise, especially in a lot of more well known franchises. And the presence of a lot of now higher framerate remasteres/remakes also helps make it more common.
That actually makes me very glad because at the beginning of this Gen I was very cynical that any and all power would just be put towards fidelity and maybe some cool previously-impossible mechanics if we were lucky. The fact that we saw this huge uptick in 60 fps despite the underpowered netbook CPUs we got makes me very happy.
Hearing Phil Spencer say in that interview that they for sure messed up with the CPU side of things helps me be a lot more confident that both Sony and Microsoft will be making much more balanced systems this time around, and hopefully that 60 fps bug can spread more.
I have been reading the same nonsense ever since SVGA was introduced. Resolution matters. Resolution is detail. You may not see individual pixels at 4K, but you will instantly notice the increase in clarity and details on 8K.
/ThreadYou know this won't happen because good graphics are marketable and framerate isn't. At least not in comercials.
I made a thread in April called "I seriously love that 60fps is becoming a trend now" but nobody wanted to believe me.

I fully agree with you, too.
I get what your saying about assets or fix needing to step up not just pixel density but the above bit is wrong.Real life in 1080p looks far superior than any game in 8k. And since we are nowhere near real life graphics, it might be an idea to just stop at 4k for a while and start focussing on added effects again instead of this mindless "I want 4k" resolution game.
Who the hell cares about clarity if the graphics themselves could be so much better.
We've been hearing this since the PS1 days, there is always room for improvement. I'd rather have the option to choose but if i had to choose I'd rather have solid 30fps with better graphics as do most people.
WTFI'm on board. Moon Studios games will always run at at least 60fps :)
WTF
I just found out that you are sitting right here in Vienna. Great Job on Ori!
Thanks :)
By now Moon Studios employs 50 folks from over 34 different countries. I'm still here in Vienna :)
Yes :( :( :(you poor victim.
But i do agree. It's more of a trend and i hope it will become even more of a trend.

Sounds glorious. And due to many reasons outlined in the OP the stars are aligning like never before (hardware technology and business wise) for the industry to be able to make a cultural push (not standardization) towards higher framerates. For most games.
*Yawn* This tired thing again.Guess what folks, the MASS majority of people are just fine with 30fps

I'm with you.You guys need to decide what you want. 4k and 30 fps or 1440p and 60 fps.
I would kill for 1440p@60 everything
Par for the course, really. This thread is the motherfucking poster child for people replying to a thread without reading the OP, or really even understanding the topic being discussed at a depth necessary to have a discussion about it.
*Yawn* This tired thing again.
The vast majority of people aren't used to having a choice.
I can.You can't honestly think most gamers care about the framerate, do you?
