Absolutely appalling to see things like this anywhere in the world in this day and age let alone the US.

Is this not why everyone has guns in the US? To overthrow a tyrannical government?

What's that? A bunch of Puerto Ricans died? More than 9/11 and Katrina combined, you say? That must be some mistake. I would have heard about it.
I know, how crazy right? The US gov't abandoned a whole island of it's citizens, literally left them to die after a natural disaster? I don't think so! Why surely the media would be reporting about that non-stop and... Oh! A celeb said something racist?!?!?! Well hopefully the media will spare no expense in getting an interview with such an individual so I can seethe at them through my tv. What were we saying about some rain that happened somewhere by the way? A power outage or something? Nah, must not have been important.

People, please do not lose hope! Don't pick up the current trend of political apathy. We all have the power of a vote and it's ability to place representatives in office who can bring about real progressive change. Encourage others to vote, but more importantly make sure you hit the ballot box come midterms. I know I'll be voting for representative Ben o'Rourke right here in Texas, and I feel confident that he will beat out incumbent Senator Ted Cruz. I feel strongly that the people of TX will get behind him. The treatment of these individuals will become a rallying cry.

Americas image in the world is in free fall. How one dude could cause so much damage in such a short time.

I'm going to copy my post from PoliERA so you all can get really mad. This is my senator from MD.

Stop them from crossing legally
Deny them food and water
Arrest them when they get desperate and cross somewhere else
Steal their children
Private prison PROFIT

That's just evil. Pure evil. Can't wait to do my part to help vote the GOP out of power this fall. Can't happen soon enough.

This will be a low point for the US for decades. Truly terrible what is happening to these children and their families.

I still don't understand how this is legal to forcibly separate parents from their children. This is so wrong, what the fuck.
And the worse is that, little by little, steps by steps, America is getting used to it and accept it as the new normal. This is a very slippery slope, people need to act before it is too late.

Because for the vast majority of gun nuts, it's not about a tyrannical government, it was that a black man was elected.

Crap like this is America. It's the true face of the country. It's something that's always been there in the background, but swept under the rug (out of sight, out of mind essentially). The only difference is that someone was elected who doesn't give a shit and removed the rug.

All the dipshits who go on and on about a tyrannical government want a fascist government, which is why they're supporting Trump in the first place.

This is a milestone because it's evil for the sake of evil. No real world need has been able to push the Trump admin to effective action. It took the prospect of hurting other people.

They will attempt organized mass murder eventually.

edit: in fact we already have thousands missing. We all know what the word missing will come to mean.

This feels like someone in the current admin testing what it can get away with.

If this passes, what next?

Very dark times.

Had an argument with a conservative who was mad I called them Concentration Camps because "how dare you compare these to those camps" because apparently these kids are allowed to play soccer or there's a TV playing sometimes.

Also don't you dare call them cages, they're "cells."

And they will assuredly be reunited with their parents after only a short period of time!

I don't think they will show the girl side of the camps to journalists. I assume, from their point of view, the imagesof crying and frightened girls is much more damaging than young boys.

I'll say it again in this thread.

If Congress doesn't move on this and quickly we as Americans have a duty to end this even if it's by illegal means, if we don't we are a nation of worthless fucking cowards.

I will be in Austin for business in about a month. If this is still going on and anyone in Texas-era knows of any group planning on doing anything more effective than sign wagging in front of a useless media please dm me.

What about young babies? Are they allowed to remain with their mothers, or are they taken also? What's the cut-off point?

edit - in a partial answer to my own question:

A representative for one NGO, Michelle Brane, director of migrant rights at the Women's Refugee Commission, said she had spoken to a 16-year-old being kept at one of the centres who had to teach other youngsters how to change a disposable nappy because they ended up caring for an unaccompanied toddler.

So not only are seemingly very young children - toddlers - being removed from parents, it seems there is no adult care looking after them.

Those poor poor children. I hope they have some recourse in the future, to be compensated for the trauma they're being put through.
