A missing Indonesian woman has been found dead inside the belly of a 23-foot-long python, village officials said.

Wa Tiba, 54, was last heard from on Thursday before she went to check on her vegetable garden near her village on Muna Island in central Indonesia, reported The Associated Press.

A search party on Friday discovered a reticulated python with a swollen belly about 50 yards from the garden where Tiba's family found a few of her belongings earlier in the day, according to The Jakarta Post.

The villagers killed the snake and sliced it open to reveal Tiba's dead body.

How the hell do snakes digest such huge pieces of prey?? There sitting ducks no? I know their stomachs break it down internally but that's gotta take a long ass time?

Actually if I remember correctly, they can actually die from trying to eat something too big, think I saw that on some documentary or another.

Condolences to her family and loved ones. I just wonder how something like this can happen. Does the snake get you by surprise?

Well that's awful.

I wonder how such a big snake snuck up on her? Must have been pretty quick.

Did the title change? The current title "Indonesian Woman Swallowed Whole By 23-Foot Python" seems pretty accurate and reasonable, although of course it's still awful to hear.

Yes. A mod changed the title.

Actually surprised a mod didn't close the thread as there isn't much here beyond "shit that sucks."

There was also a story last year about the same thing happening to another Indonesian farmer.

Jesus, nature is scary. I've watched these documentaries of large pythons swallowing cattle whole near remote villages, but humans? Damn.

Makes you wonder how big snakes can get or have gotten like has there ever been a 30ft snake on earth.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanoboa

By comparing the sizes and shapes of its fossilized vertebrae to those of extant snakes, researchers estimated that the largest individuals of T. cerrejonensis found had a total length around 12.8 m (42 ft) and weighed about 1,135 kg (2,500 lb; 1.12 long tons; 1.25 short tons).

23 f'ing feet?! Good god

I don't know how fast this snake is, but would it help to carry around a knife to hack away at it when it starts to wrap around you?

It'd have to be a huge fucking knife and you'd have to be very quick, very strong, and very skilled with said knife.

.30-06 is bare minimum what I would recommend

What I want to know is how she got crushed, because that's fucking scary.

Also, why does the snake and body look so small? Was she a petite woman, or is the video not a good way to show how large the actual body was?

Snakes are pretty much the literal embodiment of the phrase "silent, but deadly". It's why "slither" has been used as a verb/adverb to describe stealthy movements since the dawn of the written language.

All a python like that has to do is get ahold of your foot and you're dead.

Also, why does the snake and body look so small? Was she a petite woman, or is the video not a good way to show how large the actual body was?
My best guess is the snake crushed her bones and internal organs to the point it could swallow her with the min effort it could.

I hate when news sites blur out videos even with "warning graohic" headlines.

Wonder if she fell, got knocked out,
and the python took advantage.

Who knows though, pretty scary area to have to worry about those things.

So fucked up. How do you even explain this to a family member? "She got eaten by a giant snake."

It just sounds so wrong.

RIP.

I've been pretty shocked seeing this, so I read a bit more :

Pythons and Boas etc... don't suffocate their preys. They apply extreme pressure to cut the blood flow within 5 seconds. The prey instantly passes out, then basically dies / gets eaten.

This exact same thing (same race of snake too) swallowed a 25 years old man last year...

Supposedly it's supposed to be one of the rarest thing (like winning the lottery and being struck by lightning the same day). Considering it happened twice in the past year, people say it might because of the destruction of forests that forced snakes to feed off different things.

It's so fucked up...
