Says UK.

I've tried it in Private browsing on my iPhone and it does the same.

Could anyone else try it please? It even switches from co.uk to .ru on the browser.

Odd. I just googled the same game as you, Google gave me the US eshop link which then asked me to choose my country of residence so I selected UK and got that site.

Have you been able to try it on more than one device?

Is anyone else's UK Switch account appearing in Russian? This is happening when Googling games and getting eShop website links.

Yes, just came here to mention this. I've never changed regions.

And my region on the browser eShop is set to UK & Ireland - I even selected it again to see if it would do anything.

I like Cave Story well enough, but it's not even in the same league as Hollow Knight, IMO.

And even if it were, my vote still goes to Hollow Knight on its price point alone.

Cave Story is one of my favourite games but Hollow Knight. Cave Story isn't even a Metroidvania, it's linear

I'm gonna write these impsressions here, even though I'm playing on PS4, because Battle Chasers is forty fucking dollars on Switch.

So I finally picked the game up after all these months. I'd thought I'd get it in Switch but that $6 sale on PSN this week was too good.

I was really excited to play this but I gotta say, it's a real drag so far. Game is very slow to get interesting, there's little to nothing in the way of interaction. The battle system is bog standard. Rote. But that's really all there is. There's no satisfying character building, you just fight battles and unlock skills automatically in a linear way. It's just very bland, shallow gameplay.

Had the game been exactly as it is, but with a more interesting and complex battle system and character progression (like, say, Grand Kingdom) I could be fine approaching the game as a more pure strategy title.

On the plus side, the art direction is great and the music is fantastic. The music is actually my favorite thing about the game, but I can listen to that on youtube.

Overall, I'm glad I didn't pay $40 for Battle Chasers. Or $30. Or $10.

There's the foundation here for something better, something deeper and larger in scope. But it's not in this game.

Looking for a new Metroidvania for my Switch: Cave Story or Hollow Knight? Never played either of them.

Hollow Knight easily.

Cave Story is alright, but obtuse in it narrative framing, linear progression with a bit too much forced back-peddling. I'd argue it's overrated, but I can sort of see the appeal, especially when it first came released in flash, but in 2018? There are better options.

damn I was hoping to play splatoon 2 online . I just got the best internet I could find in my area a few months ago. online runs alright on Xbox

it cant be that bad on switch right ?

First of all, what are you using, wi-fi or wired? If wi-fi, is it 2.4 or 5Ghz? Switch online works much much better and reliably on 5ghz if using wi-fi.

Next, have you switched to Google DNS? If not, try it.

Lastly, you can forward ports UDP: 45000-65535 in your router and assign a static ip address. I went from type B (which is already ok) to A after doing this.

Man, I finally got around to playing Hollow Knight for about an hour tonight. I feel like an asshole but I don't think I like it. It seems... average? So far the world design is doing NOTHING for me. It seems like the game is just a central hub with a handful of spokes jutting off that will likely end in a boss fight where I get a new ability. Combat is that jerky, spammy, abuse hit-invincibility type of stuff that is sadly way to common for 2D melee combat systems. Based on obstacles I've encountered I assume I'll get a double jump or air dash at some point so not having them is aggravating.

Maybe I was just in the wrong state of mind. I'll put some more time in over the rest of the week and see what I think. I'm afraid I'm hitting some burnout.

Well, I was all set to buy Metroid Samus Returns and maybe Xenoblade on 3DS, then it hit me...

I... don't like playing on the 3DS. I don't think I ever have, whether on my original XL or my small N3DS. I have several games on it I still haven't finished - haven't even gotten more than a few hours into Majora's Mask since I bought it in January.

And it's not because the games are bad, they're great. But fuck if I wouldn't rather play on my DS Lite or GBA.

It's that fucking circle pad. I hate it.

So what to do? I still have quite a few 3DS games on my wishlist, games I want to feel my collection is "complete" in my eyes. Games I really want to play. But I feel like I just won't play them because I'll keep playing games on my Switch or PS4, or even my Vita, because it's a more enjoyable experience.

Off the top of my head, these are the 3DS games I still don't have that I want:

Metroid
Xenoblade
Fire Emblem Echoes
Mario & Luigi SSS remake (love the original)
Fantasy Life
Radiant Historia
Kirby Planet Robobot
SMT Strange Journey
SMTV-2A
Culdcept Revolt
BoxyBoy Series
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
FF Thearhythm CC
Kokuga
Pokemon Sun Ultra (maybe, last I bought was Y, didnt finish it)

That's a ton of games! Great games! I just don't know if I want to keep investing in hardware I don't enjoy using.

By contrast, here are the games I have or had.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Mario Kart 7
Mario 3D Land
StarFox 64 3D
DKC Returns
SMTV
Animal Crossing
Mario Golf
Zelda ALBW
Zelda OoT 3D
SMT Devil Survivor
Etrian Odyssey IV
Super Street Fighter 4
Kid Icarus Uprising
Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil Mercenaries (ugh)
Prof. Layton
Pokemon Y
Senran Kagura Burst (ugh)
Project X Zone (ugh)
Ace Combat
Dead or Alive Dimensions
Mii Plaza Game DLC
Pushmo
Pocket Card Jockey
Shantae & TPC
Cave Story 3D
Gotta Protectors
The best Guild01 games
A bunch of other eShop exclusives, 3D Classics, etc

So as you can see, I've already heavily invested into the console. I have a nagging need to "complete" my library, at the very least get 3DS-gen representation for all the classic Nintendo franchises (Metroid, Kirby, etc). And i feel especially compelled by the oh-so-rare sale prices.

But I could also just buy more Switch indies, retro shooters or get Dragon Quest Builders, Mario Aces, Ys VIII, Dark Souls, etc.

Circle pad is good for Samus Returns, because of the 360 degree aim feature. You wouldn't want to do that with a d-pad.

No, i would want to aim with a real analog stick.

The circle pad gives me serious thumb cramps, especially in action games.

If Nintendo had more sales this wouldn't even be a problem. But it's entirely possible some of the games I want never go on sale again. Xenoblade 3D, for example, has never been on sale before.

It's only $13 off but it feels like I should take advantage of it. I guess that's the trick.

All I can say is Samus Returns is really, really good and well worth the trouble.

I don't see it getting ported to anything else in the near future either, so might as well endure it.

Well, the other thing is I *just* bought Hollow Knight (and Night in the Woods) last week and I haven't even gotten very far because I've been playing Xenoblade 2.

That's the impression I always got from the videos I watched.

As for the circle pad, I personally kind of like it, but I can see why some people can't stand it. You could alway start with games that use the touch screen or the d-pad. Fire Emblem is a good one.

How are you enjoying Xenoblade 2 so far? I gotten back into it and I think I'm going to take the plunge and buy the dlc too while doing my NG+ playthrough. The game is so good.

XB1 is fantastic if you're never played thhat. Also good to play on WiiU if you have one.

Have you tried playing with a 3DS grip? That made it a much more comfortable experience for me and meant I was far less prone to thumb cramp due to the circle pad.

I used to have a Circle Pad Pro for my XL but I know that's not what you mean.

The issue I have with the circle pad is that it takes too much downward pressure to move, which causes cramping in the crook of my thumb quickly. I think it would be better if it was convex instead of concave, it certainly needs some grippy texture at the least.

I do use the D-Pad whenever possible, don't much like using the touchscreen, though.

I'm on Chapter 6 and loving it. I really thought this game wouldn't be at all appealing to me based on other modern JRPGs I've played recently, but it won me over quickly.

I'm not sure why, maybe because it reminds me so much of a PS2 JRPG. It's not at all flawless but it continues to be compelling.

I do have a Wii U so I could just play Xeno 1 there, I just figured the portability was a key reason why I was able to get invested in Xeno 2.

I am currently a little frustrated with the 5th character. I have used probably 15 Rare cores and 30 common core crystals and have yet to draw a Rare Blade for them. In fact, since I got them I haven't drawn any Rare blades at all. I even farmed some rare crystals at one location, I just can't get this asshole another worthwhile blade. I am out of overdrive protocols, i didn't know they were finite. The game really should tell you that up front.

I don't see a point in using someone who doesn't have 3 rare blades so I just don't use them, but it's really annoying to rely on RNG. I haven't gotten to the point where you get Legendary crystals but I read online a guy who had a similar problem said they used all the Legendary crystals you get with the DLC on this same character and still didn't draw a rare blade.

If you haven't filled them all out already (guessing not since you said you're in chapter 6), you can get an extra overdrive protocol every time you fill out a character's affinity chart (so Rex and co, not the blades). Also (and this is more time-consuming to do), you can fill out the entirety of a 4 star Blade's affinity chart and then release them to get one as well. If you're interested in seeing the Blade draw mechanics and probabilities, here's a thread for you: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/204208-xenoblade-chronicles-2/76340715 Eventually you'll probably find some legendary cores, either in chests or from enemy drops, and those have greater chances, but...it's still chance, in the end. Stuff like increasing your luck and using the various boosters can also help.

HotHamBoy Well I hope you get your circle pad woes resolved somehow. I strongly suggest getting XC on the Wii U rather than the 3DS. They did a commendable job with the port considering the limitations of the hardware but it felt like a severe downgrade to me after playing it for 200 odd hours on the Wii. I am not the type to whine about graphics to show how hardcorz I am either.

Yeah, i'll probably just do that I guess.

But Metroid is still in question.

If you switch regions do you lost gold coins?

No but you do lose any outstanding balance you may have in your account. So say you bought an eshop top up card for £15 then used that balance to buy an eshop game at £7.99, you would lose the balance of £7.01.

HotHamBoy can't help you with Metroid I'm afraid. I pre-ordered it but am still to play it :/.

Going to take a gamble on "The Lost Child" which releases on Tuesday . I love dungeon crawlers so unless it's absolutely atrocious, I should get some enjoyment out of it. Will post a couple opinions on it as I'm playing. I look forward to "God Wars" coming to the Switch later this year as well.

If you switch regions do you lost gold coins?

No but you have a balance for each region

If you buy something in country X and it gives you 100 gold coins and you had 50 gold coins in country Y they don't mix.

Next time you buy something on country Y you will have only 50 gold coins and next time you will buy something in country X you will have 100 gold coins

Has anyone tried any thumbstick grips and/or extenders on Switch? I'm getting tired of the slippery, tiny JoyCon sticks but I'm wary that the rubber edges will rub against the JoyCon housing and cause friction.

Like these:

612GYiINb4L._SX569_.jpg

https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Co-Joy...85&sr=8-2&keywords=Nintendo+switch+thumbstick

They look nice and you get 3x6 for $8

I got these today and the purchase was justified.

Ended up using the pair in the middle, they're amazing. It feels so much better than the standard nubs.

I've owned other thumbstick grips for PS4 and these also just feel a lot nicer. It feels like the sticks are factory made like that after you put the grips on.

Stuck the smallest pair on my spare JoyCons. Those are good too, not as good, but still better than the stock nubs.

I tried the extender nubs but it just felt awkward. I think it's the way you hold the JoyCons. If they were on a PS4 controller or something I think they'd be more comfortable. Even so, nice to have and it's easy to feel how they would make the stick more precise.

I think Mizuguchi was probably busy pimping out Tetris, and rightly so.

Also, given how late the bump in release date was, they probably didn't have anything prepared. Can't believe we have to wait another week(ish)!

Thumbstick augmentors or whatever you want to call them are pretty much a must have, I can't even imagine going back to the default joycon stick sizes.

That kind of stuff annoys me a little. I don't have enough time to play games as it is without having to push through over an hour of playing in the hope that something will change, and that I'll like that change.

I'm all for unlocking but you shouldn't have to commit a large amount of time just for gameplay to significantly change.

If you don't have enough time to play games, why play one of the largest Metroidvainas available? Hollow Knight is a 20-60 hours game, depending on approach. IMO, the game is allowed to change during such a long time.

Just found a guy on Reddit saying he platinumed most of the extremes in Trials just with the face buttons… o_O
Searching for Trials here and came across this from last week, heh that's me (hippotrouble being an alt name when japtor is unavailable). I actually played with an arcade stick for a while too since that didn't hurt my wrists, and the rider control isn't analog to begin with, at least in the main game (only time I've seen that part matter is minigames where the rider flies).

Worst case they could map gas/brake to the right stick along with the usual buttons, might be some weird finger gymnastics for me if I need to use it but whatever. Fapping would be weird for people used to triggers but to get to the point where that matters people would probably be able to adjust to it.

It's not that the gameplay significantly changes in Hollow Knight, the game just opens up beyond what you'd imagine as you make your way through it.
