Keep in mind the IKEA stuff and any other Qi chargers won't power any Apple Watch (even series 3) and likely not even the new AirPods case. So if you're actually looking for something that charges three of those things, you'll want to wait for AirPower

Is Samsung quick charge proprietary tech? No other phones seem to support it which is a bummer. Normal qi charging speeds is like offensively slow lol.

Might as well not be charging with how often I use a phone throughout the day.

Wireless charging is useless to me as long as there just these dinky little coasters. Give me a nice big mat that I can just toss my phone on. These discs are terrible, at least make them the size of the device I'm putting on it.

You can fast charge the iPhone wired but you need an USB-C to Lightning cable and a charging brick that supports USB-C Power Delivery like the MacBook USB-C brick.

Wireless though, different story. The latest Qi specification (version 1.2) supports 15W wireless fast charging, but the iPhone 8 and iPhone X will only support half of that, I believe the max is 7.5W.

I have been incredibly impressed with the phone so far. I truly think it would be hard to go back to the old form factor

I'm guessing $150 for the AirPower, probably another $50-70 for the AirPod wireless charging case. It'll be expensive.

I hope it'll support the next Apple Pencil too because the way it charges right now is just so goofy.

Yeah was talking about wireless.

Hmmm doesn't Samsung support 15w?

Wonder why Apple is nerfing.

Wonder if they aren't confident with cooling? My x gets pretty toasty from daily use, but the latest YouTube update seem to fix that heat issue.

There's so much to like about this phone but the battery life has really impressed me over the regular 7. I'm seeing noticeable and significant improvement in day to day usage.

What about it is better?

Getting updates the same time as everyone else. The oreo beta recently came out for the s8+, but apparently verizon and ATT users aren't able to get it ( the only way is through sideloading)
Android Auto doesn't let you use your phone when you connect it to the car (Unless you have icons set up in edge panel in which the phone becomes laggy). Android Auto also doesn't let you fast forward songs on your touch screen ( You can only go to next song or previous)
X feels so responsive; gestures and everything else feels like butter. I haven't had any noticeable lag on my X yet
After about 7 months, I could notice my phone slowing down compared to the first day I got it. (even with nova launcher, animations turned off, etc.)
Size feels so good in the hand and pocket. Taking the s8+ to the gym was a struggle.

S8+ was a great phone, but over time, it became slower and slower. My bro has the note 8 and that phone is insanely fast compared to the s8 line.

Is there seriously no way to keep the phone from dimming after twenty seconds of it being idle and locking less than ten second after? I can stare at a page of text and it'll lock before I'm done reading, super annoying.

Face ID and attention awareness are supposed to tell when you're looking at the screen and keep it from dimming. Did you disable attention awareness?

I've tried with those features enabled and disabled, same thing. Real pain. Is my device faulty?

Edit: just tried enabling both attention features again after the latest iOS update and seems to not dim on me, so maybe it's fixed? Thanks regardless though!

I really want a wireless charger, but I hear a lot of them require specific placement on the mat/platform.. that seems like a dealbreaker to me.

I believe there is an update for the X coming (not sure about 8) to allow for the fast wireless charging.

EDIT: Nvm, the update is to enable the 7.5W 'fast' charging over the standard 5W it currently supports, lol.

I keep on accidentally taking screenshots by hitting the lock button and volume button. It's just natural for my hands to fall there whenever I'm locking or unlocking accidentally hitting volume.

Any way to disable taking screenshots?

Is there no way to retry Face ID? Can't seem to trigger it again once the password input appears.

Lack of confidence padawan, don't give up so easy :P

I think AJx mentioned haptics on keyboard presses but im not noticing any besides when you force touch for scrolling.

The way I would've expected that feature to work is that if it gets to the time the user has set in Auto Lock, it will start dimming unless the user is looking at the phone. But the way it seems to work is that if Attention Aware is on, it forces the Auto Lock to a 10 second timeout and starts dimming at that point. I don't know if it's a bug, but it's really annoying. I don't want to lose Attention Aware, but 10 seconds is way too short.

Is there no way to retry Face ID? Can't seem to trigger it again once the password input appears.

Can't you swipe up to trigger it once you dismiss the password input? But you should just enter the password, that's the trigger for Face ID to add the failed scan to its machine learning algorithms.

Check Auto-Lock under Display & Brightness in Settings. Mine was set to 30 seconds even though I had it set for 1 minute on my old phone and restored from backup.

ok.

I'm actually kinda curious how many people are that interested in all the changes the iphone x brings besides fanboys. I let my boss play with mine, and he's not convinced by the gesture stuff, especially with the multiswitcher (which imo is still kind of finicky on the home screen). Didn't really feel interested to upgrade his work 6s.

I feel like iphone folks like what works, main reason they stick with the same design and limitations. If they wanted excitement, they'd have bought an android phone ages ago lol.

Like I'm not even sure most typical phone users even know about multitask, or notifications etc. It's not like apple teaches you any of this after each update. It's pretty freaking weird that the iphone x has a instruction pamphlet and a tutorial when you setup the phone lol.

You can change this under Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.

Apple set the default to just 30 seconds on iPhone X, even if you had it on a higher setting before. But at least you can change it back. Seems they are overly paranoid about preventing OLED burn-in or something.

Everyone I've shown the new phone has been fascinated on the following:

1) How bright and vibrant the screen is. I keep max brightness unless in a club / restaurant / bar though.
2) How quickly it unlocks. I guess my face is perfect for it as I never have issues except maybe on things like trying to unlock while half my face is on a pillow in bed.
3) Camera quality. Especially the ones coming from iPhone6.

Most people ask me to show me animoji's but it's such a useless feature imo after 5 mins of fascination and playing around. Rather use snapchat filters.

Yeah animoji works if you have the skills. I'm a funny enough dude but don't really emote much and ain't a good impersonator or what not, apple's fancy tech can't fix that.

No one really commented on the screen though, but maybe its cause I have true tone on, which makes it pretty orange in the office? Other coworkers have s8's though so I can't imagine them being that impressed. Definitely doesn't oversaturate like samsung.

Not sure if thats a good or bad thing? Like only a certain group of ppl would care that much about color accuracy, think most people rather have oversaturated stuff.

Ah thank you both! Did they change where auto-lock was located? I looked through any section I thought might have it and of course i missed it. That is hugely helpful.

There are loads of wireless charging mats and pads that are essentially what you want. It's really useful for me in other ways too though, for example my car has built in wireless charging, so when I'm just resting it in the storage tray, it now automatically recharges. More cars in future will adopt this, so no more cables to charge etc. Just plonk your phone down and done.

Yes, it's faulty. You bought an Apple product.

Same here. It's pretty awkward when it happens using snapchat

I really need to start using this more. I'm not impressed at all so far. Thinking about returning it.
The only new things are:
The screen
The gestures
Animoji
Everything else was in the 8 so it doesn't seem super impressive and I think that is an iOS issue.
The X could have really used an overhauled OS. They redesigned the look of the phone but kept the same old OS.

I love this phone, and any concerns regarding the space gray were completely unfounded. It is stunning and discreet, right up in my alley. Loving the saddle brown case as well.

The OLED display is magic. It needs to be celebrated with color as much as it needs to be celebrated with black. Waking up at night and looking at the time with a black wallpaper set feels like something else.
