Ah so I should use boosted abilities even for simple enemies? But it uses PT so I would have to use items to refill. I find strange the need to use special abilities even for weak enemies. That should be reserved for tough enemies. It's not like there's any deep strategy to it.

Your HP/SP refill whenever the character levels up, too, which is pretty often, and there are SP restorative abilities and passives in certain classes. Between those two things, it's rare to have to use SP restoration items.

Don't tell me you'd prefer a game where you could just auto-attack kill all the non-boss enemies. :P

Progression carries over to the full game? When is this supposed to release?

It does, and it releases July 13th.

Well...:p
I guess I just need to use abilities instead of normal attacks but it's weird and doesn't feel balanced.

Played through the demo twice to see all the characters.

1st - Started with Therion, got H'annit, Ophilia, and started Cyrus before hitting the time limit
2nd - Started with Alfyn, completed all intros for Primrose, Olberic, and Tressa

Had a lot of fun. Some intros are definitely better than others (Olberic and H'annit's are both pretty bland, whereas Therion, Primrose, and Ophilia's were pretty great. I also kinda enjoy the rambunctiousness of Alfyn and Tressa!).

The bloom/vignette is a bit distracting but it didn't bother me too much. Combat was great, though I think the most difficult fight I had was the boss of Olberic's scenario due to my 3-man party makeup and the boss just doing tons of party-wide damage.

Music was great. I may start up another file just to listen to it since I was kinda rushing through areas to beat the clock, heh.

I'm gonna play the shit out of this when it comes out.

I did Cyrus and Ophilia's first chapters, and most of Therion's. Game's still as fun as it was in the first demo, and now I'm going to have to spend the next few weeks waiting desperately for the full game. Having multiple party members really makes the battle system shine a lot more.

On another note, anyone else catch that interesting connection to a certain other character's story near the start of Cyrus's? Hmm...

The game is great! Visuals, characters, etc.

My roommate and I are so hyped!
Did you guys play the original demo? I knew from the very first reveal trailer that this game was for me since I LOVED Saga Frontier as a kid, and the demo sealed the deal. I'm excited to try more characters in this updated version, and I'm so glad progress carries over.

I haven't felt this giddy since the Lunar Silver Star Story Complete demo came out for PS1. It was the same deal. I played the SHIT out of that demo because I just couldn't wait for the full game, and I knew progress would carry over.

Loved the original demo. Definitely going to jump into this one, but I'm probably going to wait until we're a little closer to the game releasing. Maybe a week out I'll get into it.

Done for the night. Completed Therion, H'aanit, Ophilia and Cyrus' stories. Only H'aanit's was a little lacklustre, but the rest were good. The music has been absolutely amazing in pretty much all stories.

Will complete Tressa and Alfyn tomorrow. And then might do a speedrun to get all 8 characters in the save, and get the save ready for the full game.

I had fun with the demo but it kind of hurt my eyes after awhile. Something about all the graphical effects and darkness really mess with me. Either way, it was cool, but not $60 cool. I'll wait for a sale.

the HELP Menu.
I think this thread can be a solid opportunity to provide early tips for useful items and tricks discovered while playing early, since money is at a premium early on, and it could be useful to know how to get the most out of it early!

I can tell you right now, in Cobbleston you can get a good spear and sword for Olberic if you manage to Scrutinize the right person, and get into the Headman's house; the hidden item is a critical spear!

if you have a medium light stone handy, you can take out the Captain of the guard in a fight early and claim his sword, increasing speed and occasionally reducing defense!

if you find the stealing child in Atlasdam Castle, he has some interesting defensive equipment for sale, or perhaps steal, in his possession, most notably a really solid shield!

Question for those following Cyrus' path first
I was struggling with the first main boss in the cave (with two ice minions), and was using way too many items just to KO the minions with fire. Looked online and found someone had a thunder spell... where did I miss this? I thought I hit everything beforehand but obviously not. I think the time limit has me flustered not to explore everywhere

You should have gotten a mini tutorial on how to aquire skills when you Hht level 2 or 3. Open the menu, go to skills and purchase the lighting spell there.

I started Cyrrus and then went to Ophelia. I was totally expecting to be entertained with the demo but I never expected to be so consumed by the stories and the mechanics. I ended up just buying the full game on the spot. I needs it

I played through Ophilia's prologue. That was much better than the Primrose and Olberic prologues from the last demo IMO.

I guess the way they should do it is to let you play as much as you want in the demo if you pre-order (maybe you get a code if you pre-order on Amazon/Gamestop and it can automatically unlock on eShop).

But you can understand why they wouldn't want people playing the demo for 20+ hours, burning themselves out and not buying the game.

I like your solution.

They probably have good reasoning. I guess I wouldn't be as bummed out if the three hour limit was mentioned in the direct (or did I miss it?). it just came as a total shock to me and I haven't even started the demo yet since I'm unsure of how it tracks saves.

There's more voice acting than I thought there would be and it's all pretty good. Also took me a bit to realize how I should be maximizing my damage in a fight but it all felt good. Felt like a snappier version of Bravely Defaullt.

Played a little bit of the thief's path. Interesting story set up.

I then went and got the hunter chick, which actually prompted me to go through what I assume is her first chapter. Is there a way to switch on the fly back to my thief boy?

Go to the tavern from each city and the bartender allows you to switch.

This is where I'm at. I played both demos and, while that game certainly looks neat, there was not anything about the story or gameplay I found particularly engaging. I may pick it up when it's on sale for $30-40.

Demo has earned a pre order from me. Loved Primrose's opening. Really dig the visuals. Music ranges from good to excellent.

Absolutely love the combat. I dig turn based combats like Braveley default and particularly push-turn from SMT. So the break mechanic and boost is really satisfying. Love how the different classes bring new mechanics with them like Dancer being able to charm a character in. The merchant paying for special moves and mercenary's etc.

Interest went from off the radar to cannot wait.

I still haven't, any tips? Only thing I thought of is "breaking" the enemy with normal attacks (assuming they're weak to the weapon you have) and then boosting to max and laying on with skills once they're broken. But, that still feels like it takes too long.

Love this game so far. I started with Therion's prologue because I wasn't too keen on his voice actor from one of the Directs and wanted to see if I would hate him. He's not too bad. His backstory itself is interesting and while he sounds "edgy" like a Sonic fan-character at times it doesn't detract from the overall experience at all for me. If that's the worst this game has to offer I am going to be very satisfied come July.

Played a bit of the new demo last night. On the plus side, I like Therion. He's a sarcastic ass and his voice sounds suspiciously like me. It's not me, though.

Haa'nit (is that her name? I forget how it's spelled) has a speech pattern that really bugs me, though. She was the first party member I picked up and if I play the full game I am likely not going to use her at all. The whole old english thing is just super distracting.

This is exactly what I did too, and also the reason I stopped playing her. The whole "olde englishe" is layed on on super thick in a really off-putting way (at least to me). Still, always liked Hunters in games, especially ones that could tame multiple beasts, so I'll give her another shot. But first impressions weren't great

Her combat style is awesome (does she have a maximum number of monster summons she can have, or is she basically just a blue mage?), so the fact that her speech pattern is SO offputting is really frustrating. It doesn't even seem consistent.

I'll be in Orlando on a trip and will return to my country one day before the game launches. Is there any chance I can tell this sad story to a game store employee and they sell me the game before the release date? ):

Yeah, I believe it's six. Any more after that you have to replace one.

Supposed to happen later in the game, I don't think that part is in the demo.

One thing you can do is boost regular attacks in order to multi-hit. Each boost adds another hit, and each hit can shave off one of the enemy's break points. If you have a team, you can then have a second character boost to take advantage of that turn of vulnerability.

Some characters can also learn multi-hit special moves that are ideal for breaking a boss, or multi-target attacks that can break multiple enemies at once. Ophelia and Primrose can also summon allies to help break enemies even faster. Just try to find townspeople who have weapons effective against the enemies you will be fighting.

That makes sense. I was capturing every monster I encountered and after a while I was like "there has to be a limit to this". Otherwise she'd just be completely broken.

Nah, they just cost MP to use.

That's what I figured, thanks. Though I wonder if in the full game you'll have some sort of "monster pen" where you could send monsters you arent using like in Dragon Quest 5.

Yep! We loved it! I have a good feeling Octopath Traveler will be a classic hit on Switch! What character are you starting as?

I kind of doubt it. She might unlock abilities that increase her monster "stock", but considering Hecht mentioned the monsters do eventually expire after enough uses, I doubt she'll need a monster bank.
