Sorry, double dipping isn't the right term to use in this situation.

I just find it so bizarre how much people want to play fortnite, and the competitive aspect of allowing crossplay on everything seems fucked since the advantage goes phones < console < PC. For purchases not carrying over, that seems like something on Epic's side because if your content carries over to the other 5 platforms and not MS/Switch, then I think thats something more to do with "unless you can play on this system, you can't carry over progress"

Like I do not see why "the account is getting barred from being used on Switch/Xbox, if all Sony said was we don't want to allow crossplay between these systems".
The mass market is in love with it, it's their Candy crush, it's really not that bizzare.

Again:

And this isn't just for people who have exclusively played on PS4 and bought everything there. This happens to people who put 1000 hours on the PC version and just signed in on PS4 once for five minutes to see how it looked.

Crossplay only works if you play with friends. And even there it doesn't matter if you have or don't have an advantage, we played squads with people on PS4 and PC and won quite a few games with console players on our team.

I dunno, all I know is I hated databases at university. Like coding, the smallest task can quickly turn into the biggest project evar if it's attempted without careful thought beforehand.
Its not that they are not techincally able to do it they have already changed it so psn and xboxs have played together for a bit of time by "mistake". We are talking about different tables nothing crazy like sonys user id debacle. Ingratiation should be fairly straight forth.

I love Sony but this shit they got themselves into is so dumb, allow crossplay and get rid of all this bad press...

I see people playing this on their mobile almost every day at lunch.

I saw a Switch player today. It's not surprising it's blown up, it's the perfect game to play on the go as well as at home.

You get to choose where you queue, so you can stay in your own ecosystem if you want.

Likewise, we don't know what Sony said. All we know is that Sony does not, under any circumstances, allow crossplay with other consoles. Xbox and Nintendo do. This account problem only occurs on Sony's consoles, not any of the others, so we can only assume it's tied to that. And considering the fact that Sony didn't deny this in their official response, we know pretty concretely it's their fault. They could have say something along the lines of 'any account that has been used on a Sony platform cannot be used on competing consoles'.

Realy hope they change their mind.
The only stumbling block I see is the knock-on effect with other games.

If Epic really wants to turn the screws, release a new map on all platforms but PS4 because of "porting issues" wink wink.

Maybe I'm being naive but I don't understand how epic doesn't have the power to sort this situation out. Like, can you use the ps+ content (skins etc) if you log into Fortnite with that account on pc?
Is it to do with the account infrastructure and ps+ content being tied to said accounts? That seems like an oversight on both Sony and epics behalf, but it's shitty if Sony's not budging on it deliberately.

That Sony PR doesn't even mention the account locking. Just crossplay. People are asking the wrong questions and seem to not understand completely what the real issue is.

I dont think Sony will do anything, until it hurts their profits. As a PS4 pro owner, (and PS2 and PS3 aswell) i find this policy appaling. But i dont think that will help. What would help, is if lots and lots of people cancelled their PS+ subscription at the same time, and let it stay cancelled until the issue was fixed.

I dont think that is a feasable prospect though. But i am sure they'd hurry along and fix it, if that ever were to happen. Other than that, i dont think a bit of bad publicity will change their mind. They are the market leaders for consoles atm, by a big margin, so why would they?

You don't need PS plus for FN though.

Fuck Sony. This type of shit should hurt their profits and I'm glad it's a PR nightmare. I hope this make them change their shitty practices regarding crossplay too.

But Microsoft, in this case that's relevant the Xbox Windows Games division, has changed. From offering backwards compatibility to digital returns to Game Pass to crossplay. You can timewarp all you want but we must evaluate things as they are now.
Yeah, let's timewarp: You do need Xbox Live Gold in order to play Fortnite Battle Royale on Xbox.

fyYxyEu.png

Right now it's the only platform you need a suscription to play the game. Although what Sony is doing in this situation is much worse (not even comparable), let's not kid ourselves. Microsoft is as pro consumer as Sony.

EDIT:
This thread isnt the right place to talk about this but let's not act like we shouldn't be talking about it. People brought up the same concerns earlier in the year only to be drowned out by PS4 not wanting to crossplay with Xbox in Fortnite.

For future talking about the subject refer to this thread.

The only reason I can think of that would stop Epic from sorting it out is if Sony were mandating that any account used on the PS4 couldn't be used on another console.

That would be incredibly scummy if true.

Its not about crossplay. They need to allow the Account switch thing and they are fine.
Yep but it all boils down to crossplay, this wouldnt be an issue if they allowed it here, on rocket league, paladins, etc... The account held hostage is only what makes it worse

At this point, I feel Sony is not going to do anything and just let it die down unless it keeps going for a while.

See this is the part where I don't get Sony. It seems sometimes they are only 'for the players' int heir own way./

IMO they should catch A LOT of flak for this to the point that if they don't respond maybe Epic should pull the game from PSN. It would suck for those PS players but it feels like the only way to force their hand. Even then I doubt Epic even considers this.

It just feels so wrong and I can't think that they just don't care because it would be "helping" the competition.

Reggies quote on this is hilarious. Hes like - "You have companies like mine, who are awesome and cool with cross play, then you have these DICKS over here, and I'm like - 'why cant you guys be cool like us?' But yknow, they don't listen to me, so I guess they will remain dicks"

I hope they allow the account purchases to work cross platform. I even think they might.

However I really don't believe they will allow crossplay! They benefit so much all the time from NOT allowing crossplay, it would actively hurt their sales a lot, hardware and software. The sales data from the store I work at shows that a very large proportion of PS4 sales come from Xbox One trade ins, I know from personally dealing with many of them that it's almost always kids wanting to swap platform only because their friends all play PS4 together (usually Fortnite, but also things like Rocket League and Minecraft) and they are left out because they are on Xbox and can't crossplay. So they swap to PS4 so they can join in, and then going forward buy multiplatform games on their PS4 etc.

It happens at least once every single day I work, which is just a little store in a little town in the U.K., so if that's representative of what happens everywhere just imagine how many sales that's translates to in every store, in every country the world over. (And subsequently how many extra software sales are garnered). Allow crossplay and these kids don't need to swap systems. Lots of sales lost there. They aren't going to do that, it's far worse for business than a bit of negative press over not allowing crossplay.

As it should be obvious I don't play fortnite...

But does your progress/purchases carry over to the platforms Sony does allow crossplay with?

Or is PS4 a separate ecosystem?

If Sony doesn't want crossplay between the other consoles ok, but I don't understand why they would go out of their way to block the ability to play on other consoles if this information regarding progression and purchases are relegated to a cloud save on Epic's side.

Why not though?

Epic owns the Fortnite accounts, surely they should be allowed to to decide what people do with them?

I'm not saying Sony isn't at fault by the way, they're clearly being super scummy in this as well.
Because the agreement that epic has with sony wont allow it. Remember, fornite was on ps4 first before it got big. Sony cold dictate the agreement as fortnite save the world was doing spectacularly shitty at the time too. When this all took place sony held all the cards.

This is one of those rare games where controller users can actually compete. Obviously the best of the best like Sypher, Myth, Wish, Hamlinz, Dakotaz, Daequan etc. will dominate. However there are legit controller players like Nickmercs who are in the competitive scene and win playing with a dual shock

I couldn't care less about crossplay but taking accounts hostage needs to be fixed asap.

But this doesn't really make sense. I played Fortnite on PS4 and bought skins and other stuff there. Now I'm abandoning that account to play on Switch. And I'm sure a lot of people will do the same especially if they have a family.

Why would a father buy a PS4 for his little son if he won't be able to play Minecraft, Rocket League, Fortnite etc with him via crossplay?

It's 100% a Sony thing.

If you ever played Paragon on the PS4 with your Epic Games account (but never played Fortnite) you are forever barred from playing Fornite on Xbox or Switch with that account.

Progression transfers on every device except PS4. PS4 does not intersect with Xbox or Switch. So if I play the game on Xbox and then pick it up on Switch, all of my unlocks, cosmetics etc are available on my Switch version. If I play on Playstation and pick up a Switch, I am unable to play and need to create a new account from scratch.

Didn't really care in past, but seeing my son be able to dump his Xbox because he'll be able to cross play Minecraft and fortnite was cool. No reason why they should limit crossplay or progression. I'm still happy with my PS4, but it's gonna make me reconsider things come next gen.

Just guesswork but, maybe there's no internal crossplay filter implementation from Epic? The game is on what, PS4, PC mobile and switch. Perhaps the PS4 being tied to the account is literally the only thing that tells it to just connect with other playstation players? And that's why they hold the account to random effectively? I don't know tbh. It's quite an oversight either way.

Oh.

Edit: So purchases on Sony can only be used on Sony? They can't be carried over to the platforms that are not Switch/Xbox?
Purchases made on ANY system are locked to PS4 if you've played one match on PS4.

If you did 99% of your progress and purchases on PC you can't bring it over to Switch simply because of that one PS4 match you played. It's fucked.
