Antivaxxers are bad, for sure, but I noticed the same. People go completely nuts on antivaxxers.
I mean, I do see why - we have a resurgence of entirely preventable diseases, which is an absolute disgrace. On the other hand, I feel antivaxxers are just easy targets for hate. They're obviously dumb, so focusing on them is generally easy, easy enemies, no pushback to fear. They're a kind of hipster target, something we can all agree on hating, so hate we do.
Which isn't really helping and not addressing the underlying problem. WHY do antivaxxers exist? Because politicans push an anti-science agenda in general. The same arguments used to discredit vaccines are the ones used to discredit, say, climate science. Or scientific results that show homosexuality is natural. Vaccine hate stems from people applying the same arguments for cash on other topics the average person has no clue about. Vaccines SOUND weird if you're clueless and grew up hearing over and over that scientists are evil and just pushing an agenda: You ARE infecting yourself with stuff. That gotta be bad, right? Right? It's not, of course, but if you believe science is all political and agenda driven, it makes perfect sense to apply it to vaccines.
The underlying problem is a belief that gut feelings make more sense than science. Antivaxxers are just the underbelly of these attitudes starting to hurt civilization as a whole.
You can see other parts of this crop into this very forum as well, just take a look at medication threads, where people apply antivaxx arguments on medication many people need just to function.
As a society, we have a serious problem with science being seen more and more as just an opinion, and it's biting us in the rear more and more and more.

I know my brothers wife was having second thoughts abt vaccin their son. She said she was reading more and more abt (probably fb or some low-quality newsfeed) it being bullshit and people around her are also thinking about skipping vaccins because of 'stories'.

In all my readings on anti-vaxxers and with anti-vaxxers, i have yet to find a single person coming up with an objective and sound reason why it is okay not to vaccinate. However, as i observed at one website (Tweakers), people instantly turn hostile even when you only mention: I don't vaccinate. And then you have to imagine that in this case it is not said in a baiting and intentionally trolling manner.
That being said, anti-vaxxers to me are in the same boat as Flat Earthers: Provide me a sound argument and ill listen. The irony of that is that its virtually impossible to do so. In that regard it amazes me that people so desperately want to go against years of research and facts just because they don't trust (You will notice how most of these anti-x movements start off out of a distrust for something, usually the government) that they do some serious mental gymnastics to justifiy their beliefs, to the point where it endangers lives.
Like, its okay to have a healthy dose of sceptisism against a government or against a leading body. Science does not advance if nobody questions authority. But some things aren't so much science as they are common sense. Vaccinating and understanding that the Earth is not flat are few of those core principles.

I just want to add that many of them are malicious as well. I was talking to a dudes wife at a party ( they're both drunk morons ) and she was saying I'm not vaccinating my kid and I said well aren't you worried about diseases and she said no let everyone else get them and fuck their kids up my child will be healthy and disease free. So they actively rely on others for herd immunity while genuinely believing they are passing all the risk to other poor parents.
I'm all in for the "people are free to decide for themselves"-thingy but a lot of diseases would go extinct if everyone just stick to the vaccination plan. It's frustrating that these people just don't get it and actively set back the human population/common health. It's one of the very few thing that should be mandatory, apparently we can't count on common sense these days, it's depressing.
Unfortunately it's probably going to require a high body count from a new or reemerging disease to snap out of this nonsense. I imagine most of the people who are on this train (assuming they're not the ones profiting off it) were born after vaccinations had already eradicated (or at least mostly) the worst of them.
We're probably due for another major pandemic in a similar size scale as the Spanish Flu of 1918.
It all comes down to education again and learning from prior history. We learned in school about events like the spanish flu. It puts those "little fears" into perspective.

People tend to have stronger emotional reactions to child-abuse (and animal-abuse to a lesser degree) due to the fragile nature of the subject. So when we see people actively risk children's lives, then yes, having a strong reaction makes perfect sense.
As others have pointed out, this anti-logical stance of not vaccinating not only actively harms your own children, they harm other children. Not just because sometimes a vaccination doesn't take, but also because some children for medical reasons can't get vaccinated. Imagine losing a child to a disease that should not even exist anymore, just because some uneducated person refused to get a vaccination.
So yeah, this goes way beyond other anti-science stances like flat-earthers or young-earth creationists, and as such gets a harsher response, rightfully so.

This enrages me so much. A part of me is glad the child is not suffering anymore but most of me is utterly outraged and frustrated to see that a newborn (hell any fucking child) being through that kind of abuse from the people who the child is supposed to intrinsically trust the most. It is fucking insane, just fucking insane and utterly, unequivocally criminal.
I am an absolute and unapologetic proponent of sterilization for people who are anti-vaxxers for the sake of protecting herd immunity.

The thing is, the child has not played any games. Of course, the parents "deserve" their suffering, but the child is the main victim here and has to pay the highest price for the "game" the parents played. I really hope this doesn't get taken the wrong way, but I'm genuinely curious - why does it seem that anti-vaxxers are overwhelmingly female? Like, it's story after story about the wife/mom doesn't want to vaccinate their child, and the dad doesn't agree with them on it. Same with when I've encountered this on on social media. It's always women. Like, is there some psychology behind this why this mindset seems to effect mostly women?

Sorry to say this isn't anything new. My wife is a pediatrician and sees people rejecting Vitamin K and the post-birth eye ointment all the time and has been seeing this since she started her residency 6 years ago.
This is pretty accurate, it's almost always upper class white ladies who drive this stuff
I can't imagine being a health practitioner and trying to convince these people so stop being so gullible and let them save their baby's life. And then not being able to and watch the baby deteriorate, powerless. I just can't imagine coming home at night and the anger they must have to deal with.
If I had to guess it would be because, I assume, the mom has more say in the matter. So if the mom is pro-vax and the dad is anti, it's a non story since they child will get vaccinated. (this is all conjecture)

In a lot of animals the hormone oxytocin is released during pregnancy and child birth. This is the hormone that bonds an animal to their baby. This is an evolutionary adaption in animals that makes sure a mom takes care of their child. The same hormone is at work when you see a mother dog take in a kitten or a cat take in a puppy as their own. Humans are no different in their ability to produce oxytocin during pregnancy, the levels of oxytocin surge to high levels.

The surged oxytocin causes a mother to become very attached to their baby as well as very protective. This change of biochemicals in the brain can cause a human mother to become overprotective especially when they see their child taken and also when they are told that the child needs to be injected with a needle.
While yes, being unwilling to grant your child necessary medical procedures is a good indicator for a lack of education, consider the fact that her child was dieing and she was at the hospital watching the child losing its brain function. Texts she writes in this situation will not be a good indicator of her usual capabilities of writing syntactically correct.

They should be locked up for child neglect and endangerment. I couldn't imagine not doing exactly what the doctors and nurses instructed us to do after my son was born.
