I just played my first Fortnite match and I had no idea what the hell I was doing, but it looked fun anyway ^_^

In my first minutes in-game, I chased a guy for about two minutes. He entered a house. I went after him. He apparently wasn't aware of me, so I approached from behind and shoot. Nothing happened. That's when I realized guys with white arrows above their heads are my teammates.

Where the hell are my enemies? Oh, crap, this blue force field just covered me and now I'm losing health! Right, this is probably the arena shrinking, I read about this battle royale thing a few days ago.

Second match, and while that flying... bus (?) is moving in the beginning, I open the map and realize there is another bus on the other end of the map. All right, so that's where the enemies are. I think I got it: in the beginning, the enemies are far away, so you look around for guns and stuff and then start moving towards the enemy, right?

The only shooter I ever played online was Quake III on the Dreamcast, so I'll probably need a few days to get how Fortnite works, but this looks very fun.

Played it docked, didn't notice any hiccups.

Most likely your work is blocking whatever ports or networking features NIntendo uses (since it's a work environment after all) while EPIC is maybe using different ones that go through.

On that topic what could be a solution?
In my years prior, always put a "Nintendo hardware IP" under DMZ and that solved it. But with my boyfriend and I living together now, we can play Fortnite, but not Splatoon 2 online.

Lots of things could be failing, but first thing I would try is going into the router configuration and making sure the firewall is at the base security level (usually reject incoming connections) instead of at a zealous level that could be fucking with the consoles, some firewall modes only let HTTP and port 80 traffic to pass through, and I wouldn't be surprised if some scummy ISP shipped them with that configuration by default. Next option would be assigning the console a fixed local IP, then check what ports does the Nintendo Network use to open/forward those ones.

EDIT: I don't know if it's a thing for Nintendo consoles since I never faced that problem with any of them, but Xbox Live is VERY finicky with the NAT configuration and that might be the case here. Also make sure the ISP is not hiding your router behind CGNAT (in other words, using the same public IP for several customers and put them behind a private IP range) because that fucks with online games a lot too.

I'm an Xbox player that was able to finally get my first solo win on Switch lol! I have a bunch of squad wins and some duos but I always choke once I'm in the top 5 solo.

How do you open up crossplay? I couldn't find the setting for it and it's stuck only on "same console"

Sniping long range can be near impossible if theres quite a few people. People far away start moving at like 10 FPS while everyone else around you moves normally

I wish there was some type of tutorial for this game. Even just a quick, 2 minute, here are the basics of building type of thing. Although, with as large as the maps are I suppose you can just go into games and spend a significant amount of time teaching yourself. Still... I find this game somewhat intriguing... I just don't have the time to get deeply into it unfortunately.

I dont seem to have any surround sound for this. Is anyone else having this issue? Zelda has no issues with it. Switch is set to surround sound.

Just got my first solo win in any battle royale game. I was shaking by the end of it. Basically played it like Metal Gear Fortnite, sneaking around until there were three left. One of the other two killed the third and was sitting high in a tower so I just ran over and pick axed all his ground connections. The whole structure disintegrated and he fell to his death, leaving me victorious.

it doesn't feel like it was implemented properly. On the pro controller there's a very big difference between tilting the joystick slightly and tilting it the whole way, but the joycons feel like they're going max after being tilted only a bit of the way

There is no setting for cross play... It's all automatic.

You are matched up based on the platforms used by your party, You'll only enter cross play lobbies if you are partied up with someone on a different platform.

I will say cross play is so nice in this game and I really wish other games and Sony would jump on board. I played some duos with my son when he was on the switch and while I was on the Xbox one some games and on my iPhone some games and it ran so smooth. It's so easy and convenient and my son had the most fun he's ever had playing the Fortnite. Cross play has been a dream of most gamers since Xbox and PlayStation launched their online services...

so if I wanted to play a friend who ones it on xbone.. how do I get to playing and adding him?

I have a question :) I downloaded Fortnite on my Switch, and everything is fine. But when I log in to the eShoo and go to my Icon on the top right corner, and then go to the games that I can download, then Fortnite is still there! Normally only games that are not installed are there, but Fortnite is there even I installed the game already. Is that a bug, or went something wrong?

Got 8-12 kills in every 50v50 game I played so far.

People are hilariously bad, I feel like I'm playing the Fortnite Beta all over again.

Played one game, only encountered 2 people, the first of whom I killed, the second I did not.

Came 5th.

This is my second time playing Fortnite.. Tried it on PC before. Still not convinced this is for me, but if I do play it again, it will either be on PC or on Switch only if they add gyro aiming.

I finally have this a whirl to see what all the crazy kids rave about. I had no idea what the hell I was doing.

Wish the game had a tutorial or even instructions. I did 50 vs 50 and I couldn't even tell how to read the map as I would see white arrows and then blue and purple arrows, or where I had to go. They mentioned a storm and I had no clue what they were taking about. I can build shit apparently, but I don't know what I'm suppose to build or how it exactly works. On my HUD there were four players on the left, and I didn't know what to make of that because I'm in a team of 50.

It's all so confusing. Lasted 15 minutes, died, and quit out of the game.

A lot of people jump out of the Battle Bus early. So if you want more encounters then jump out with them.

The crazy kids all had the same introduction to the game that you did. But they figured it all out. Try a YouTube video for tutorials.

I found it really jarring with no tutorial for the first few minutes but then felt a sort of freedom and excitement for working it out for myself, knowing that I was being hunted. I was awful but I still had fun. Hopefully they add Gyro.
