I have been disgusted by the left-wing response to this. Opposing our best shot at peace, denuclearization and perhaps reunification because its being conducted by Trump. Who the fuck cares if US makes some concessions? Ever heard of what diplomacy is, you give and you get - that's what happened with Iran and that worked out fine. To see those who are ostensibly pro-peace whip themselves into a frenzy because MSNBC told them so is so disappointing. So, so disappointing. I hope Trump and Kim succeed and we have peace.

This is such a dishonest reading of the issues people take with this shitshow. I can't believe you even typed that with a straight face.

This is the thing... people are calling cancelling the war games a 'concession.' Like, America practicing bombing the shit of a country is just normal status quo baseline stuff, and if you want it to end then you're asking for some kind of a favour from the Americans. Incredibly fucked up imperialist worldview imo.

It's like history began the moment Trump began Twittering at Un. And conveniently you take agency from ROK while painting this sad picture. You don't seem to be taking the folks who actually live there, into consideration.

Even more telling of how shallow your argument, you've not bothered to ask why China and ROK aren't being represented in this detente. What issues could you hope to solve without security agreements from the interested parties? This is a giant neon circle-jerk for two spoiled children

I agree with all of your posts so far 100%, but liberals dont want any win for Trump. And they love to pretend to be tough guys on foreign policy.

Broken clock, twice a day, etc. For whatever reason, our brain addled president has bumbled his way into a major win for world peace and the people of the Korean peninsula. Natsec idiots and rightwing psychopaths in SK & Japan are hyperventilating, which can only be a good thing.

Am I supposed to cry that we cant conduct stupid military exercises in the Yellow Sea or something? lmao

You and that other guy should just come out and say that your Trump supporters already because only someone that stupid would be buying into the crap he's selling.

Allowing the DRPK propaganda to run roughshod over US readouts of the meeting is like the last thing I expected to happen. Expected Trump to repeat their talking points, but not have state media do a full blown read out on their own terms. This is moronic.

Obviously the sanctions won't actually be lifted. But I 100% believe Trump rambled on about maybe doing it so now NoKo is running with it because it's a massive propaganda coup for them. And since there are now official notes of the meeting who's to say what actually happened.

Trump got played harder than even I expected.

Can Trump even lift the sanctions, himself?

Who cares? He promised it. First step toward peace huh?
Well it doesn't really matter what he promised or even hinted at. No actual deal was struck other than to basically continue dialogue. And if I'm not mistaken, apparently congress has to approve everything for this, going forward.

Nobody is against peace with North Korea. This is being handled spectacularly sloppy and could back fire as easily as all the other diplomacy efforts have.

Why does everything have to be this stingy quid pro quo game. A summit is a sign of mutual good faith and a strong base from which to enact other reforms.
This is such a dishonest reading of the issues people take with this shitshow. I can't believe you even typed that with a straight face.
I'm ready to be enlightened. So far as I see it, Kim and Trump are both bad people - but they in combination with Pres. Moon have led to the best dialogue and de-escalation of tensions since the Korean War ended. The costs to diplomacy are low in terms of ceding this nebulous concept of 'legitimacy' and the benefits enormous.

You know whose actually affected by this more than anyone else? South Koreans, and every indication is that they support this. Tell me why that shouldn't be enough and why we should continue to risk their security for abstract diplomatic strategy.

This also gives cover to Russia/China to remove their sanctions on NK. It's an amateur hour screw up (that is if he didn't promise that). More given away for nothing

How low is your bar for him? What is his job if not to lead US negotiations? For some reason many people don't believe that the lies he tells matter diplomatically.

Backpedal on what? I don't disagree with you on this. lol

I'm saying, regardless of what Trump may have tossed out there during the meeting, this shit still has to pass through congress. He likely can't just make whatever decisions he wants.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm all for trying to resolve our issues with NK, but so far this has turned into a completely vague shitshow.

There are no negative consequences at all for promising the lifting of sanctions?
We don't know what was promised. Bottom line, nothing was formally agreed to, other than to work towards de-nuking. If it's not in writing, signed, and approved, then it was officially offered.

So Kim can rightly broadcast to his own people and to the world that Trump lied to his face.

Yeah that's a great look that will surely lead to productive discussion.
I doubt Trump cares what NK says about him to his people. And nobody believes anything UN says outside of NK. All that has to be said is the idea of dropping the sanctions over a period of time, matching concrete steps of de-nuking was brought up.

Again, absolutely nothing other than what was signed on that pieces of paper is actually official.

I don't think you answered my question
It depends what your definition of promised is, in this case. I'm sure Kim is well aware that nothing they talk about, that doesn't end up on paper and signed, actually matters.

In reality, my guess is the North Koreans were told that once they start de-nuking, they could WORK towards getting the sanctions slowly lifted.

Yes, very logical, contemplative Kim Jong Un certainly knows this.

I'll ask again

If Trump promised or even suggested that he would lift sanctions, you don't see any potential negative consequences?
It depends on how it was presented. I can't imagine, even Trump, would just flat out offer to lift the sanctions before they start showing proof of de-nuking.

But yeah, if he did promise that, there would likely be negative consequences. What they would be beyond returning to where relations were a few months ago, I don't know.

What if they offered him some hotel space?
lol I still don't see it being tossed out there. Now I suppose it's always possible Trump did a poor job of communicating, and maybe it came out that way - but there is no way in hell it would come out that way in the large meeting with Pompeo and the rest of the team there.

They weren't in the first meeting.

Come on, dude. I get it's fun to shit on Trump - but I find it incredibly unlikely that even he would tell NK that they would drop the sanctions, and that it would happen before any sign of their de-nuking.
Why do you continue to give Trump the benefit of the doubt? He's more worthless than the rotted corpse of Osama bin Laden, yet you still seem to think there's something there. Just why?
