I saw an ad for those and thought that, surely, 3m had some sort of deal with f1.

Just get Nando to appear in one of their tv spots wearing hose. Problem solved.

Flew out from Calgary to Montreal for the race weekend 2 weeks ago. Little late on posting but if anybody has been to all three days of a F1 event, it's like a marathon. Wake up early, transit, get to the track. 10 to 12 hours at the track. Then back home the same way with tons of people. Get home, eat, sleep and repeat lol. Plus my father is handicapped so I was pushing his wheelchair around the crowds and through transit (Wheelchair tickets/parking was all sold out). So besides walking, I was also pushing and helping my father around. Not bad since the Montreal Casino has a shuttle and a shortcut gate (it's a secret shhh!) closer to the area where our seats were.

Last year I only went to Friday Practice and had seats at grandstand 46 at the start of the long straight. It wasn't great seats and the view was very limited (Damn you big tree).

This year we got three day tickets at turn 6 & 7. It's the "Family" grandstand and the seats where pretty damn good. Row F, seats 3,4,5,6 and 7. Got to the track when FP1 was going on and got lost trying to get to the grandstand. Ended up behind the 41a grandstand (This is the wheelchair one that I'll be getting tickets for next year). There's a walking section that has a sort of good view of the approach of Turn 8. The cars are flat out to this section so getting a good photo was tough. I'm not a professional photographer and had my little Nikon Coolpix Tough AW100 camera but got a good shot of Kimi. (I've reduced the image dimensions since they are over 8MB each).

Finally figured out how to get over to the seats. The crowds on Friday were not that bad but it was still packed. It was damn hot at the track. The grandstand was not wheelchair accessible but my father can walk short distances so after the lunch break we got up into the seats for FP2.

Friday Practice 2 - Turn 6. Lewis Hamilton

Ground level at turns 6 & 7 was a prime spot for general admission and on Sunday it was 10 people deep. The funny thing is this. My brother said this before the weekend. "Where we are sitting, there won't be to much action". Well, Friday had the Formula 1600 Qualifying Session and Dominic Legrand crashed in turn 6. So they brought the car over to the fence spot.

Saturday was another hot day. I found that shortcut through the Casino so entering the track on Saturday was better and saved me 15 minutes of going through crowds of people. Arrived during FP3 and didn't go to the seats since it was over in 15 minutes. Had lunch during the Ferrari Challenge Qualifying Session off to the side of turn 6 & 7 and heard that huge crash and tire smoke. Damn that was loud. Rushed over to the fence after it was over and they took the 99 Ferrari of Barry Zekelman and parked it. The sound of the front bumper on the pavement was painful when they were towing it. From what I heard he didn't break in time for the start of Turn 6.

The funny thing, since I can park my father right at the fence, I told him they keep bringing cars right to him. Qualifying was pretty good and it's damn fast. I can't believe how they take these two turns that quick. Got a good shot of Sebastian Vettel on a hot lap.

Sunday was a very good experience. I could only get to the fence spot for the track parade and it was jammed with people. I asked my father if he could tough it out for the race and he said he could. I expected to do some breaks through the race but he stayed for the entire 70 laps in the grandstand.

First off, I have to apologize for the quality of the video. I had no idea the camera was not in focus when I was filming the first lap. I couldn't believe what happened with Stroll and Hartley. Seeing that live was nuts. I've been watching F1 since 1997 and to witness a crash like that being there is something I'll never forget. Crowd reaction in the video is legit. Coming out of that corner at that speed and seeing Hartley almost flip over.....damn.

Got some more video of the Safety Car on Lap 4 going through Turn 6 & 7 with the pack following close behind. Lots of debris still on track and Lance Stroll off to the left side. I was still recovering from witnessing that crash lol. I got some good photos of the clean up and cars.

The only downside is that my fathers "fence spot" had so many people in it I couldn't go down to take some good close pictures of the Williams and Toro Rosso.

After the huge crash the race was somewhat interesting. Cloud cover came over so the sun wasn't that bad and the temperature was not as hot as it could have been. I really enjoyed the race and was happy that my father could come along and tough out all 3 days. Unfortunately, I did notice that people are not very friendly to persons that have handicaps and in wheelchairs. They seem to cut in front or completely ignore a person in a wheel chair. I manged it well and there were some helpful people at the track and in the metro but the majority of people were somewhat rude. It really opened my eyes that there should be more options at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit for people with disabilities. I read about the facilities at the Australian Grand Prix circuit for persons with disabilities and they are at the leading edge of what is provided with shuttles and amenities. Trying to find a handicap toilet was a search and no where near the grandstand we were at. Plus of course people were using them who didn't have disabilities...

All in all it was a very good experience at the Canadian GP and the seats were excellent. They need to try to figure out the damn transit system on getting on the island. One metro station is a choke point for the thousands of fans getting on and off the island (and need to be upgraded for handicap accessible persons...). Sorry this was such a long post but I wanted to give some detail of my first full F1 weekend.

The really cool thing is that my dad and I met Lewis Hamilton. I had my doubts that he could really fit in the Mercedes car. I might have been tricked!

Couldn't post this above. But I wanted to include it.

Got some good video after the Safety Car was brought in. Cars were still close to each other with Sebastian Vettel leading.

So Vettel was right all along that driving specific lines under VSC can give you a time advantage. Not seconds or anything, but it can add up to a couple of tenths over a VSC period.

Didn't Renault want to drop them for next year anyway? Besides, this was expected after the last few weeks. Should be fun to see it play out.

The story goes that this is the last year of Renault's old agreement/commitment (to Bernie) to supply Red Bull with Renault engines, going back years (I think a decade). Red Bull had a deadline to extend that agreement or sever it around this time - and it looks like they're going with the ASAKI BEAST MACHINE (tm)

I assume that a deal with Honda will also mean Toro Rosso will get Honda engines, and that Renault go from supplying three to two teams (which I think would suit everyone involved)..

It's my opinion that the 'Renault wants to drop Red Bull' rumors are just a load of crap Renault made up to make themselves feel better. Sure, RBR constantly shit talks them, but they're also the team that makes them appear somewhat competent.

Either Red Bull makes it big with Honda or they're gonna sell the team before 2021, screenshot this.

I don't think they care. They'll lose data from a front runner capable of winning with their engines, but the Renault works team is progressing nicely and is 4th place in the WCC. They were praised as heroes for saving Mclaren while Redbull is still seen as taking the gamble here.

Joe Saward is speculating that Michael Andretti could possibly buy Force India. He, his team president and Alexander Rossi's father were seen making visits with Force India and Liberty during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend.

Wasn't around the forum when the race happened. So yeah, that was a boring one. Hyped for Vettel back in the championship lead, but Formula 1 has got a major problem when a track notorious for murdering tyres and offering excitement ends up being a procession where the only position change in the top 6 happened in the pits. Max keeping it out of the wall on such a track for the entire weekend is also somewhat surprising.

That's an acceptable compromise.
Yeah. Without depth perception, the central halo pillar was just too obstructive, but they can't just get rid of the entire halo because it'd make the sport look bad.
This way leaves enough visibility and it actually has a bit of that old cockpit, helmet cam flair.

Speaking of depth perception, they could really go with the times and do VR support by now....

I do not like the fact the halo obscures your view of the front wing elements in T-cam view.

McLaren facing staff revolt as they've finally had enough of the marketing man clown show - lol

patience broke earlier in the week when racing director Eric Boullier led the usual post-race debrief in the Woking factory at which it was admitted they were at a loss to explain the car's lack of performance.

'Members of the shop floor were so furious at what they saw as the incompetence of their leaders that they plan to enlist Whitmarsh's support as a last-ditch attempt to help turn around the ailing team.'

And this is not the first time that staff have tried to enlist Whitmarsh's help given his close ties to McLaren shareholder Mansour Ojjeh.

Whitmarsh told the Daily Mail that some time in the past 19 months, the time since Zak Brown was brought in as the new boss, "people at McLaren said they would send me a letter about the situation. I told them not to send it to me, but to Mansour."

He's also had his own chat with Ojjeh about McLaren's troubles.

"I piled in a little bit," he said. "I love the team and I am desperately sad to see what it has become.

"It needs a big change of approach. There is too much politics between the main figures. I think a number of them have to go. I have explained my view to Mansour and it is for the shareholders to decide what to do.

"The team used to be all about winning in Formula One. Now they are looking at other avenues — going to race in IndyCar and Le Mans, for example. They are great things in themselves, but McLaren going in that direction, rather than making grand prix racing their sole priority, makes me shudder.

"I live locally and I bump into friends who work at McLaren. They are disappointed with what is happening and remonstrate with me.

"Tim Goss's departure pitched me over the edge. Tim has a fantastic intellect, and is a hard-working, non-political, value-adding member of the team. He was scapegoated. He may not have all the answers, but he would work on a solution from first principles."

Whitmarsh says he is open to helping McLaren rediscover their lost form, they only have to ask.

"If a delegation showed up at my door, I wouldn't turn them away," he added. "They know where I am."

"The racer" Fernando Alonso, say what you will about the man but his love for racing is unquestionable, I'd love for him to win one more WDC then jump to Indycar and be champion there, and win the 500 <3

The problem with the 500 is that it's a real lottery on winning. That said, there's every chance he could do it for the next 20 years and not be too old. :D

No matter where he goes, Alonso is easily one of the fastest (if not the outright fastest) driver. Last year he was doing incredible at Indy but his engine failed him. This Le Mans he showed insane pace in the night especially, catching up lap after lap basically without mistakes. In F1 he oblitares a great young driver like Vandoorne. The guy is probably one of the best racing drivers ever, definitely the best since Schumacher's (first) retirement.

I think that Lewis is as good as him, but there's no question that he's one of the best in history in my book indeed.

Alonso is undoubtedly one of the best drivers of a generation and he could probably beat the likes of Hamilton and Vettel on their best days, given he's in the same machine. Its such a shame he probably won't get a realistic shot at the F1 WDC again. But watching him at Le Mans was amazing, the way he clawed back that gap was just something else. He seemed to really revel being at the event too, which is great to see.

I want him to go and dominate Indycar because he is triple crown material and his talent is wasted in F1 at this point in time.
