You trollin mate? I mean, show anyone a picture of Ellie and a picture of Ellen Paige and Ashley Johnson and ask which one Ellie resembles more...

I'm not saying they modeled Ellie after Ellen Paige, but she looks so much more like Ellen Paige.

That's why the game is RATED M.

Graphics get better, gruesome scenes get more...gruesome...for obvious reasons.
Your supposed to feel bad and conflicted because that's natural of us as human beings, prior to that we didn't feel that much conflicted because we didn't had that much graphic fidelity but we committed the same gruesome acts.
I find it really hypocrite of people who are complaining about this game but is ok with Lara Croft murdering everyone, or GTA mass murdering, or Battlefield war crimes, or Rainbow Six killing for fun...the list goes on forever...

So yeah, there is that.

It's annoying that my youtube dislike etc will be taken as a bigoted vote against the kiss when really I'm just appauled by Druckmann and his horrific psychopath libertarian violence he's pushing on to millions of Playstationers. What a nasty piece of shit that man is.
It can't be healthy to walk around with this level of hatred.

It baffles me that grown up people are so freaking sensitive about violence and some gore stuff in a videogame with a +18 rating. To each their own, obviously, but nonetheless I found it very funny when people go the extra mile to sound offended.

I'm really glad the game finally has women bad guys. The lack of them in the first game was a little odd and off putting. Their dumb ass excuse for them not existing was even worse..

Really looking forward to this!

Wasn't your point regarding GoT that it was an Assassins Creed clone? What makes it a clone of AC specifically? You haven't answered the question.

I answered that to someone else a few min ago. I'll look for it

Edit:
Sorry but Ghost looks nothing like AC

Oh really? In assassin's Creed you don't ride a horse through tall grass in an open world with janky animation and then climb a building jumping down to assassinate a Target and then take on several other enemies at once dodging and blocking attacks and then follow another character around a level, ending in a boss fight with sometimes over the top atmosphere?

Weird. I feel like I played that same exact scene in origins.. but ok

Is it me or Ellie is older than her first appearance in the reveal trailer? she looked like ~18yo in the reveal and now looks like middle 20s imo.
Anyway, gameplay is top notch and the animations are insane.
I hope it wasn't that scripted, combat will keep me on the edge if the full game is like this.

I often do this with my lips in real life. These animators are wizards.
Surely you mean the actress is a wizard! They did that with their lips!
It seems there is dynamic GI with the torches like with the lamps in previous TLOu and Uncharted 4. When the goons who hanged that man threw the torches which got extinguished, the scene behaved correctly and dynamically to that dynamic light source.
Which scene in term sof time stamp?

fantastic demo. that part where ellie is running and seamlessly picks up that bottle and throws it at the person is as awesome addition. curious if some of those parts were scripted for this demo though, like getting dragged out from under the car.

sounds like Joel is like a manager or something for patrols and that's what Ellie's doing. and looks like Tommy's camp is up and running and growing and society is maybe returning to something resembling normalcy. very interested in the state of this world, if other cities are getting power back and rebuilding too. seems like everyone sat around for 20 years with their thumbs up their asses.

The demo was incredible, loved every bit of it. The only part where I did feel a little queasy was when the hanged dude was gutted, didn't help that I was stuffing my face with food when it came up. It certainly did not seem like horror porn, there for pure shock value. TLOU was rough to play, ND did not hold back then and since games look better, TLOU2 is obviously going to be harder to stomach.

The demo complaints are perplexing though. Of course it is scripted, ND only have a limited time to get what they want across and they did it perfectly. I don't think it is coming next year though, TLL released less than a year ago and most of the studio were working on that, there is no way the game is going to have such a short dev cycle. Releasing even December 2019 would mean it would have been in development for a little over 2 years, I don't think such short cycles happen these days.

All this BS posts about bad gameplay in previous ND games need to stop, they have great gameplay and a lot of people enjoy it.

Also, i rewatched the video for the 5th time (can't stop doing it) and saw an interesting detail: as in previous game, Ellie has a pocket knife and she uses it to fight enemies when she doesn't have a weapon (like machette, pipe etc). She never fights with her bare fists. Does this mean that using stealth, we can always use this knife for quick kills ? Because this will make the game much easier (in the first one Joel used founded knives that became broken after a use or two).

Possibly, but stealth, or full stealth might be harder to achieve in TLOU2. So you might have to work more to use that knife kill.

I understand people feeliing uneasy about the violence, maybe ND will have a mode that sensors the gore. But for me? I love it, if you'e going for a realistic theme, go all out. I just hope they don' tone it down based on people voicing there displeasure with gore....lol man stealth kills in MP will be something else, can' wait

I know right. Thank God there's Tetris in the horizon for them to play, but I don't know it might be too violent for them as well. Blocks slamming to each other and blown to smithereens.

I just can't get over the faces and the hair. It just feels so life-like. The way the sweat kinda matted the one girl's hair towards her neck. It feels like real people talking. Gameplay looked fun, but I don't even care about it because I liked the church scene so much. It was so atmospheric.

Are you talking about my post when you wrote that? Just in case,it's not a complaint at all..i dunno where you get that.
I know it's scripted but i don't know at what degree,i dunno if enemy behaviour, counter attacks, teamwork and their search patrols are staged, that's all.
I love this demo,it blew me away.

It always happens in ND threads, for some reason people seem to not be satisfied with their gameplay until they become action games such as DMC, Revengeance or the latest God of War.

Isn't that how Ellie plays in the first game? There were even memes about how Joel wouldn't die from every clicker that grabs him if she just gave him her knife.

Hmmm, if Ellie is going to be the main protagonist i want to have the option to grab enemies from behind in stealth mode. I used it a lot in the first game.
What do you mean by harder to achieve ?

Yes, but we played Ellie like 15-20 % of the whole game, also she was very weak in direct confrontation against enemies (without all those weapons, obviously), which is not the case now.

just a guess but you might have to utilize more mechanics to pull it off (like hiding under cars n stuff)

I hope you don't think that was my argument. Ellie is gay because that's the character and the story they wanted to write.

But it's still a fabulous coincidence.

I think so, I think the girl is killed and Ellie is some months / years (?) suffering from it, Joel tries to help but he can't do much, Ellie decides then to go in a journey for vengeance, Joel probably tries to stop her later in the game I'm sure.

Well, I'm glad I may not be seeing things XD

I remember her looking different/older in the reveal trailer, though it's been ages since I last saw it. So I was wondering if I was mistaken, if there indeed may be a time skip or if, quite simply, they made some slight changes to Ellie's model. After all, they did the same for the previous game after the first trailer.

I don't want it to be the case, but Joel is so dead. From an interview article yesterday, Neil specifically says it's Ellie who's trust into this journey. That, plus the obvious setup of the town being attacked and Dina and the others dying. At this point, I'm really expecting either a Joker Arkham Knight situation, or flashbacks to show Joel's parts. Maybe we'll play as him in the latter.

And as for the scripted thing, I don't know if I'm being too optimistic here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Naughty Dog actually managed to implement systems that would allow for things like the guy pulling Ellie out from underneath the car and so on.

Yeah, we're definitely gonna have the pocket knife the whole time. I'd be surprised if we had to rely on shivs again. Not that I hated those, but they're a wee bit annoying and switching to Ellie's gameplay was a godsend because of that knife.

Okay as someone who does enjoy ND gameplay, this seems like the culmination. There is no doubt that other games have tried to emulate this, TR reboot for example, but this looked far more grounded, tense, and realistic. Just look at how ellie moves in comparison to the lara demo we saw in the Square direct...just immediately the game is in a different class. Its not lost on me that the games are going for different things, but with this demo i truly felt something.

Next, the section is clearly scripted but with purpose. I think they are trying to show:
  • Increase in animation and AI response fidelity
  • Ability to squeeze through tighter places in the environment
  • Deeper hand-to-hand combat mechanics, including the ability to fight more methodically with dodging mechanics.
  • Increased impact AND realistic weapon damage to the character (arrow removal, bullets graze her arm rather than penetrate)
  • Cinematic moments seamlessly integrated into the combat triggered by environmental elements (ellie being thrown through the glass). For this particular item, i am really curious to see how dynamic and frequent the moments are. I wonder if something similar would happen against a car, a desk, a wall...this is the question.
I am really hoping they play through the same sequence using a different route when they show this demo behind closed doors...I have faith that ND will show that the section could be just as interesting if ellie was caught at a different point in the demo.

My hype is through the roof on this one. The goal of TLOU gameplay is to make you feel stressed and tense, kind of like the No Country For Old Men movie. In addition, it needs to be grounded and have weighty gameplay where you FEEL the stakes. I think they are nailing it on this. For me it was the perfect reveal.

Did you guys notice when Ellie is shot (and takes damage) right before she starts running the first time (7 min mark in video), she is actually only grazed on the shoulder by the bullet. There's clearly a wound afterwards and she even reaches for it right after being shot. So cool.

I was really blown away by the cut scene moments. It was the first time in a while I've had a slight giddy feeling whilst watching a cut scene. It looked so real at times.

I thought the game play looked good. Familiar yet definitely something I can't wait to play.

I think my favorite part was the little whistles the enemies gave. I got chills thinking about playing that section late at night with my headphones on.

As regards to the violence I'm ok with that. It wasn't like the original was short on graphic scenes. They have ramped up the visual side but thats to be expected as the graphics get better over the years.

Agree. That moment felt gratuitous, but the rest of the trailer was so damn impactful. I actually recoiled a bit when that arrow hit her. And that scene in that store when they're looking for her while she's mere feet away...Bravo. The tension is off the bleeping charts.

Eh these opinions feel weird, there's nothing that indicates Ellie should have the morals of a normal person living in peace time. He's fighting fanatic psychopaths in a post apocalyptic society. She's feeling dread and hate towards a monster still spiting her even in his final moments.

It's similar to the first game, non-fatal shots are mainly grazes and only show up in non-internal organ-y areas.

It's a way to have a "health" system while still suspending disbelief for the sake of combat.

Although that hammer/axe thing would have literally crushed her ribs lol

Wow, that's just sad. I just don't get some people.

Whenever people whinge about wanting to "keep politics out of X" what they are ultimately saying is "up till now I've been able to enjoy this space with ease because the politics embraced conformed to ones that I am comfortable with. Now that a different perspective is being presented, my ideas are being challenged and I am very very very uncomfortable with that."

YES. I loved this detail. I hope that she can only get "grazed" until the final shot that kills the player. It will make it so much more immersive. The arrow she is hit with actually gets through her and you have to manually pull it out else i think it impedes your movement or maybe causes extra damage?
