First time I saw the trailer I was a little down on it because it didn't have any moments a big WOW moment like the Mads Mikkelsen appearance or the giant Cthulhu thing from the previous trailer but upon rewatching, its a pretty good trailer. Even though we didn't get a good look at the gameplay loop, we have a solid idea about what kind of feel and atmosphere the game will have during gameplay. Its a well put together trailer and cryptic as always but I'm afraid this is the type of game which will lose its mystery and intrigue the more they show it (for example I was totally over the invisible hand monsters and was waiting for something new or different)

I think Léa Seydoux is the pregnant wife but Kojima smeared her face so we can't recognize her and so won't Sam. The latter seems to have Amnesia (probably after his multiple deaths). He neither recognizes his wife nor he can remember Lindsay Wagner that he took a photo with. Similar to Unknow movie. Kojima is bringing a mixture of many famous movies here. Some were mentioned in this thread. We need a full list of potential inspirations.

I'm not a kojima fan by any stretch but the last trailer got me really intrigued and this new one was great as well.

I love when open world games aren't afraid to have big empty spaces. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me it really helps sell the sense of place.

Yeah I don't have high hopes for this game at all
Mo05lT0.jpg

That is not the full version. the full version has Rising and MGS5 added the list. It was posted months ago in a Death Stranding thread here but I couldn't find it. I hope someone finds it again.

lol, "You just need to use your imagination!!" Now I'm having flashbacks to that epic Sea of Thieves thread.

There's a big difference between restrained showings and deliberate vagueness, and just an open world game with little meaningful gameloops. And If you think that what was presented today was the core loop of DS, knowing the other trailers, knowing it's Kojima at the helm, then you're probably not very imaginative, no. And again, that's fine.

I guess a lot of people expected this to be a full-blown action title no matter what (though I can't blame them from the first two trailers). Judging from this trailer though, I think this is gonna be a pretty intimate journey with the MC, at least for the first major portion of the game. Rough plot taken from the trailer shows Reedus is a delivery-man, probably going from settlement to settlement through the dangerous wasteland, only able to do so because he can uniquely sense the creatures. Seydoux wants to hire him for something more dangerous than deliveries because of his unique abilities (maybe expeditions akin to the second trailer?) He's haunted by some inner demons, including some fever dreams / time-bending hallucinations of whoever Wagner's character is.

If the game ever goes full-blown action, I'd presume it'll be a decent way into the game after multiple encounters with Seydoux. This is most likely still a bit rough development-wise, considering Kojima's history with how much time he takes making games.

I really enjoyed what was shown for gameplay though. The treks through open wilderness showing the MC's tribulations would set tone and atmosphere perfectly for the opening hour. It's obviously not the entire game, as the dialogue of the trailer clearly sets up the MC for bigger and better things. The stealth elements show promise. With several enemy types and multiple different stealth mechanics it could feel very unique. And of course we got the tease of a rifle for action. There's a lot in this trailer beyond walking and nonsensical world-building.

The more I think about it, the more I hope the entire game remains a mystery. Mysteries work best when you only get hints and not full explanations. DS looks intriguing to no end.

those sites being 100x worse doesn't make the ignorance and toxicity here any more palatable

People are passionate, you can't just dismiss their concern and criticism as ''ignorance and toxicity'', if anything you need to understand maybe that's just what people thinks.

Personally I am super excited and I love the gameplay they showed here, as I said previously I appreciate how the game isn't just shooting and killing and exploding, this game seems like it will have creative, interesting and layered approach to gameplay.

How the fuck is this game going to fit in with the Guillermo del Toro trailer

Nano machines son.

Let's be honest here, if this game was being made by anyone other than Kohima the whole forum would be laughing their asses off at how little substance they have shown after what, 4 trailers?

Not that I really i care though, I'm not the one who put money in making the game, it can come out in 2022 for all I care, if it's good i'll Buy it.

This is looking like Man Vs Wild/Nature thing with a little dose of supernatural elements thrown in for decorations. I'm totally in! Environmental vistas looks phenomenal!

I don't know that any one thing in particular attracted me but I'm so happy to have one game to look forward to that does not look like anything else coming out.

I already said earlier that I don't think this is the core loop. But you know, you can literally defend any trailer by saying that you just need to be more imaginative because the final product might be so much better than what we've seen so far. So if anything, maybe you should be more imaginative with your cop-outs.

i don't understand why kojima didn't spell everything out to me in flashing neon letters. why would anyone want to maintain a sense of mystery over something like this? abstractions are stupid. i want to see flashy flashy bang bang. video games owe me traditional combat and in depth explanations of every one of their mechanics or they are bad.

Does Kojima literally have someone on staff who's job is to find music nobody knows about that's great? I just went to the Silent Poets youtube video for the song, apparently it had like a few hundred likes or views or whatever and now its obviously growing. 4 months ago some dude said 'hideo brought me here', so im pretty sure some insiders were hanging out.

I absolutely adored the last trailer with the guy stabbing himself, but this did nothing for me. Weird walking animations (I think that was probably gameplay shown from a different perspective), uneventful trailer all in all. It just felt extremely unfinished in a way the previous trailers did not. This game is a 2020 title for sure.

Rewatching the trailer I'm getting a sense of very old Japanese storytelling here. The small cog delivery guy/merchant with a huge load of stuff on his back crossing fields of spirits while his shoes deteriorate is a hodgepodge of classical imagery affixed to Kojima's strange sci-fi/supernatural ideas. While none of these trailers have done much to get me excited, this is the only one where I can get a sense of something coming together. The trailer is cut to show rigorous travel, repetition, cycles, isolation, and stealth as central concepts. The first layers of what I can only guess will be a weirder, wider thing as we get more and more footage.

IDK what the hell this is, but I'll give it a minute to gel. I haven't been a fan of Kojima post MGS3, but I'm okay with expensive risky ideas.

Y'know... Kojima said GDT is providing likeness but won't be doing voiceover work. I'm thinking one of the guys in communication with Sam was GDT's character, but I'm probably reaching. I guess it's the accent. Either way, you're right. This trailer was vibrant and lush compared to what we've seen thus far.

The way that scene presented itself was to me indicative that it's part of a 'mandatory death'. The guy in the radio thoroughly explains what would happen if he died and that obviously was meant to is, not Norman, who already knows that.
Then he goes out and gets caught with no provocation.
To me that's a tutorial.

what stealth? he just walks right past the ghosts, there's nothing in the environment to even hide behind

This right here^

This game is dripping with style and suspense, and I think it's obvious Kojima is being deliberately vague.

It's got the most unique atmosphere and theme of any upcoming game right now, so they're obviously working with a lot of inspiration and confidence.

Might be that it turns to be just OK and not a stroke of genius, but it's looking pretty inspired right now.

I will say this: the trailer kind of presented the story as being more straight forward then I originally thought. Seems like the story is gonna start off on a small scale and the stakes will become higher as the game progresses.... so I'm feeling good on being taken On kojima's crazy ride!

People are complaining that they aren't showing anything and I'm just sitting here thinking a game where you just deliver shit across vast landscapes looks great on its own. I'd be into the game even if theres no more to it than what they just showed. Just walking around and climbing shit.

This is so much mystery and WTF mixed with amazing art-style. After the unfinished mess that MGS5 was, I hope Kojima can fulfill his vision this time. But with Sony in the lead I am not too concerned.

The trailer gave me both Breath of the Wild and Silent Hill vibes.

Did anyone watch the Geoff Knighly interview after the press conference? Lindsay Wagner, stutters and calls it (Death Stranding) the "film" then covers her mouth and says game. I'm starting to think this is gonna be more of a straight narrative interactive, not sure how I feel about that...

I think you're reading too much into it. She's a 70 year old actress who's worked on films for 40+ years and this is the first game she's ever worked on. Its just a habit.

Besides, its not like she'd know much, if anything, about the game anyways, she'll just come in and do mocap and record lines.

He wrote in a blog post that one of the band members was a part of the catering staff during a performance capture session lol.

A serendipitous bond (strand) formed between myself and SILENT POETS, whose song is featured in the trailer. We had a number of performance capture sessions in Japan, and met some amazing people who were part of the catering staff. Not only was the food exceptional, their hospitality was outstanding. We, of course, requested their service many more times. One day, we found out that one of their members was a veteran musician. When we started talking, we learned that they were about to release an album for the first time in 12 years. When I listened to the sample they gave me, an image of Sam walking in the wilderness naturally popped into my head. It was the song Asylums for the Feeling from the album Dawn.

So it is somewhat clear now what happens to Del Toro in Trailer 2.

It seems that the timefall made the world somewhat a bad place to live. If timefall accelerates aging it sure is having an impact on buildings and other materials, too. So companies hire Porters in order to get stuff moved around the world. Where Sam is occupied by BRIDGES Leas character seem to be occupied by FRAGILE. From Trailer 2 we know that there is at least another faction called Blackhole that Mads is working with. So we can clearly work with the assumption of Mads now where he stated that he isn't a villain. He is just working with another faction at this point that has their own interests maybe.

Back to Trailer 2. Del Toro activated the incubator because he knows that those things are near. After that the black water rises underneath his feet. Del Toro is sure in danger at this point and is facing to get eaten by those "things". Mads then comes out of the tunnel and it looks like that he is actually hunting these things. Given that Del Toro is also occupied by BRIDGES we may work together with his character at some point.

The scene where Norman falls into the water is the actual landing in purgatory. The first person sequence of the game where you collect your lost items and try to get back into the world. After getting back into the "normal world?" you wake up upon the location you were eaten. The place where you died is now a big massive crater. These craters will persist in the world as this has been stated by Kojima.

So with the goal in mind to reconnect the world it could be possible that an event ripped the universe/timelines apart. People are seemingly caught in different universes/timelines maybe and the goal is to get the world back together and stop the invasion of those things.
At this point I assume that Trailer 1 is showing a very early stage of the game.

The baby is connected to the humans, because the accelerated aging makes a perfect clone for the dying host and thus, the connection transfers the concious from the host to the baby which will be the new host when returning from purgatory.

Yeah.. could speculate a whole lot more - but I didn't found enough time to connect the dots. That's what is floating in my head for now.

I don't even know what to make of this game....I need to see more concrete gameplay.

the scope seems to be huge though from what we've seen but I hoping to see more of the "action" gameplay.

It's so weird. We've seen 4 trailers, with some gameplay, and still don't know the fuck is happening! Kojima...

Loved the trailer btw. God his taste of music is fantastic.

Wow this post looks spaz and hot take.

Someone has opinion different to you wow. It looked a glorified walking simulator. It felt very pretentious and so far up its own backside. It looked and felt like an art house movie with too much budget. It didn't sell the game at all and took a massive step backwards. It will be hailed as a second coming by some and others like me will say it looks boring and snooze fest. The next trailer will need to sell it a lot better and show some gaming sort of things. I believe there should be games like this doesn't mean people can say they aren't there cup of tea as well.

Nice write up, I hadn't made much heads or tails of it. Given the large landscape shown it seems like these areas are a big focus of the game so I wonder how much, if any, is like trailer 2 with the more detailed city locale and undead infantry.
