Yikes @ that art direction

Still, day zero for Itsuno

I wish Lady was playable out of the gate but I guess you need to save something for DLC

Man enough to admit that I was wrong. Didn't know about the art style so watched the pic and thought it was a bloodborne fake.

Wait a second...

Is Nero using his own arm as a ridable rocket?

How can you hate on this game. How can you.

There are differences in how realistic human faces look even when they are based on scans. I'm not a huge fan of how Nero looks here either, but I understand they have tech and direction based on REVII here. Uncharted 4 is the king of realistic facial animations and they are much more stylized than the stuff we see here.

Yep .
I hope it get better .

I thought this was Scalebound when I saw the guy.

Then I thought it was yet another reboot with an all new Dante.

Lucia can go die in a fire, but I'd be lying if I didn't say a DMC game with three playable characters and zero women among them is disappointing. Lady and Trish got robbed.
Bruh come on.
Lucia deserves the chance she never got, plus there ain't many black or dark skinned action game characters, least non that come to mind atm.

This is like the only place that is hating on this game so hard. I'm stunned.

All my DMC fan friends are losing their shit, me included.

I guess a lot comes down to how much you hate Nero?
It seems that way. Frankly, I'm surprised that there is still so much hate for the character.

right, going from completely original designs to scans based on real people is part of the problem, it's intrinsically unfaithful. Imagine if Joel from TLOU looked like Troy Baker. Troy is handsome, but he's not Joel in physicality. It sucks.
and yeah we know how faces and wrinkles work. the question is whether or not a game rooted in anime designs should really be trying to capture those sorts of complexities in the first place, and how it's beneficial to a game like DMC
I mean, Joel will probably look different in TLOU2 as a result of the closer push to photorealism. It's not inherently a problem unless you were literally expecting a sequel coming out 10 years later to still retain anime art direction for the models.

The confidence it must take to have Devil May Cry 5 evoke both DMC4 and dmc, two games that killed the series, is encouraging. I would have definitely expected them to play it safe, another prequel with Dante for instance, but clearly they're making the game they want to make.

This is 100% post DMC2.

The mad lads at Capcom actually did it.

I would have liked a more Dante focused trailer, since he's my favorite, but this, this is what I've wanted for a a long damn time. I wanted to find out what happened to him after 2 and was always a little bummed they just made everything else before that. I'm super ready.

Nico is the best new character design in a while. And Dante doesn't look too bad in that new pic on the motorcycle.

Not just that, you got your info wrong about Sony holding back a PSX announcement when it ended up getting revealed in a Microsoft conference, and your Unreal Engine 4 info was wrong too.

No offense man, I know you like the games and all, but your source lied to you.

Can someone explain the story of DMC to me?

Dante and Vergil are twin brothers of a legendary demon named Sparda. They don't get along well.

Nero is the son of Vergil. They don't get along well.

You launch demons into the air and then keep them aloft by shooting them with guns.

You are now fully up to speed for DMC5 (DMC is not a story-heavy series :P).

People talking shit like it's style over gameplay for a DMC game, that garbage can get outta here. As if this Dante will go "FUCK YOOUUUUU" in this game.

Vergil looks like Vergil from the micro seconds we see his face/parts of his outfit and Grandpa Dante looks alright, he doesn't look like a shave (and a few weeks without booze) couldn't bring him back to his DMC2 looks. The most important things they got right are his outfit (just look at that bike, it's amazeballs with all those armour plots in the front) and his personality (which sounds on point).
I get what direction they want to go with Nero (more rebellious, less conformist after escaping the religious freak show on his home island), but they would have been better off "punkyfying" his old haircut rather than going with the short spiky punk look that is VERY close to Donte. Rest of his outfit is fine.

Nero's new sidekick looks rather generic, uninspired and doesn't really fit with the creative character designs for the female cast from DMC 1/3/4, she looks like someone they randomly lifted from a Dead Rising game.

Now the regular enemies (especially the alien looking regular mobs, I was joking to a friend that this might be a Resistance trailer at a Microsoft conference before I knew it was DMC5) on the other hand look really uninspired and very close to the stuff in DmC, and largely uninspired. Much worse than the Marionettes, Scarecrows and arguably still inferior to those in DMC3 (the basic 8 Sin enemies weren't that creative either). The scythe wielding mobs that pop up briefly look very bland too, naked, hunched bald guys with a scythe in the grey color palette that the insectoid mobs have, yawn. At least the 8 Sins had differently coloured robes to bring some distinction in there. Bosses and the bat enemies are lacking the massive variety we had in DMC3 and DMC4, one is the usual generic female pseudo-angel daemon, one is a black blob with tentacles and the one with the most screen time is like an uninspired cross of Berial with Godzilla with a lava hole in his chest (reminds me of Beowulf in DMC3, who was by far the weakest boss design in the game by a massive margin).

Environments look extremely generic mid-apocalypse urban center, I remember watching that Dragon Ball/Naruto/One Piece trailer right after in the Microsoft conference and thinking "the environment looks exactly like in DMC5 one", nothing but blacks and greys. Hope the environments are more varied than that, DMC3 only used generic US urban areas for level 2 and 3 for a reason.

Jury's still out on the music, that "theme song" that plays during the boss fight with not!-Berial is awful, but some bits you hear near the beginning and end of the trailer sounds closer to the stuff from DMC3/4's combat tracks (which was great IMO).
