Thanks.
In other news, I made a ladybird. Do you reckon there would be like any insect fans that would get triggered it only has 4 legs instead of 6? 6 is cramped.

The more legs the creepier it would get. Cthulubug

Hey there everyone! Glad to see this topic is up and running. I don't know a thing about programming but have been fooling around with pixel art this month and having a blast. I'm totally new to this but thought I'd share some of my stuff sofar! I'd love some feedback!

Hi folks! Like I already said on the discord: Looking forward to share to stuff with you in the future. =)
On a random note, since I'm feeling crazy today I'll install unreal even though being just under the requirements- I'm just too curious how horrible it will run, heh.
Yeah, report button is too big and in a strange postion hahaha I always tend to go an click it as waypoint's like button and its a Nooooo, phew! hahaha
I know, right? I never knew I needed a like-button until I like immediately got used to it at waypoint.

Thanks.

As hobbyist insect-watcher I feel offended that you want to pass a painted dressed up cartoon sheep for a ladybird. ;P

Never posted in the last thread, but I started learning in GMS2 as of last week. So far it seems incredibly intimidating, but hopefully I can persevere enough. I really struggled with programming back in highschool.. but this was ten years ago so I'm optimistic !

I like it, it really reminds of earthbounds, even if its not eaxctly the same style.

So like, 9 slicing and masking in Unity really works well. Really makes me approach some artwork differently and gives me all sorts of ideas.

tried Twine to me help out to get the routes and paths I'll be using for a Visual Novel game I am currently doing in RPGMaker MV, I started the whole thing on Renpy and even made my own battle script, but then I realized it was pretty much a RPG battle system, so instead of just using the battle system I'll also add some exploration and more interactivity with your environment, neither will be the main focus tho, it will still be VN more than anything or I might try to balance it out, dunno, we'll see lol.

Its kinda crazy how long it took Unity to add it as just an engine feature for general 2D, because both have been used in the UI system since 4.6

I'm in! I'll still be over at Waypoint as well, but I figure the more threads about our work, the better :-)

Now, to test how this new places handle the torrent of gifs it's about to receive:

I love how when you turn into the warrior Inti makes a DBz-like powerUp animation, but when turning into the acrobat she does a quick flip. This kind of stuff is exactly what we were talking about the other day about conveying information and personality through the animations. Just by looking at them you can tell that the warrior is much heavier and tanky, awesome job!

Where's my individual "like post" button? :-D But thanks!
And of course, forgot to mention it, but many thanks to SpRidley and Dusk Golem for the whole invite shenanigans, and for Popstar for the thread in the first place!

There's also the camera zoom - it helps sell a difference of size/build, even though their sprite is really just about the same :-D

Still, I have so much work ahead to get everything to work properly now... it feels nice to finally have "proper" backgrounds, but it just makes me see how much longer the road is going to be. And there are some more animations for Inti I'd like to get around to eventually... it's going to take quite a few years, I'm afraid :-D

I know. At least for me updates don't seem to break much although I'm rewriting the game from scratch so I don't have a whole lot completed yet lol.

Thanks :-D Though admittedly when I look at Jobbs' latest Ghost Song screens, or Hollow Knight, or Dust, or any and all of the fantastic looking 2D games out there, I get a glimpse at how hard it's going to be to get there, but I'll give it my best shot (seriously, those backgrounds are going to take YEARS). I just hope C2 doesn't break apart in the process :-D

Hey all, glad to see the thread back in resetera. Had the same name back on gaf. Just doing a quick check in.

What dev time I had the last week can the fun lesson of "glDrawArrays wants the number of vertices, not the number of bytes". Which can become hard to track down when you're fixated on glBufferSubData being the problem. Thankfully talking about it with someone in a graphics programming slack channel eventually got the lightbulb to turn on.

Hi folks! I'm in! It's nice to see everyone getting over here eventually. :)

Hopefully this fresh start will encourage me to stop being so lazy after work and actually work on my own project again! That said, if anyone needs any help I'm always happy to lend a hand. C++, Unity and Lumberyard is where most of my knowledge lies, so if someone has a question relevant to those I'll try my best to help out. :)

As a person who always loved seeing what idle animation I'd get if I pushed my character to the edge in platformers, I love your character's quick little double take and hand gesture there.

Ok folks, feedback from y'all's is appreciated. At-a-glance theme mockup so it's not a fleshed out environment first impressions go:

Thoughts on the aesthetic, quality, scale, anything that jumps out at you, etc?

It's not a style that particularly resonates with me. However, if I was to try and be objective and offer critique, it would be that the character appears too clean in comparison to the detailed and gradient filled level art. Regarding the gradients, I feel they're not quite working. I'm struggling to understand the depth in each of the art elements, particularly the desk(?). I like the colours though - I could see these blending and popping with a little light bleed or bloom.

Also, hello! First post, etc.

What do you want the main focus of this image to be? I'd say the table since it's the only element there, but it fades too much into the background.
The red arrows are pointing downwards so it seems like you might be able to jump down through some hole somewhere in that area.
Do you want the visuals to feel flat or would you like to have some depth on it? You could do many things in that case.

Good to see a lot of familiar faces popping in.

Ugh, not sure why I decided at the end here to animate 20 minutes worth of cutscenes for NSS. Oh well, I wanted to brush up my 3D, no better way than jumping right in.

Looks great. Does this project have a Twitter I can follow so I can keep up to date with your game, man?
Me and my partner just started up a joint twitter a couple weeks ago. We are both working on our own separate games for the most part with a bit of collaborating. Any updates we put out will go up on >> https://twitter.com/Lonely_Beetle?lang=en. We are gunna try and do screenshot saturdays as often as we can.

Sounds true to the Inspiration for the game lol. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm looking for people who are willing to learn how to develop games with me. I've been trying to learn Pico-8 for the past few months now, it's just hard to try and do this alone as my attention wanders on my lonesome so if you're someone else who's trying to learn this like I am or already experienced we could work together. During the week I'm available at night and free all day during the weekends. I was just thinking about going over the tutorials to get the foundation first before moving on to creating. Baby steps. Just PM me if you're interested.
