I feel like once Instant Star was cancelled, we no longer had that proxy character in Jude Harrison to explain the nuisances of the challenges and developments Avril Lavigne would go through as an artist, pop icon and woman. Without that show, fans and media could only interpret what was going on with the reclusive Avril through paparazzi and theorized fan accounts, adding to the pressures she had to endure. Thus began the complicated era where she appeared she was starting to trip and losing her grip in this thing alone.

In conclusion, Hello Kitty was extremely unfortunate and cursed. What the actual fuck!?

pop era scares me sometimes..

and OP, she didn't write the lyrics herself..
OP may be deranged, delusional and probably guilty of several crimes, but please don't ever compare him to the pop era crowd. Those are grown ass people posting stupid gifs and shit like "slaaaaay queeeen" "yaaaaas" and other crimes against the English language because they think they look... cool, I guess?

Not saying you're not ill, Milky boi, just not as much.

"Slay queen" and "yaaassss" are just appropriated from drag culture. It's in now, along with stuff like throwing shade and whatnot. Don't be so uptight. :P

And OP, that song is just a commercial product made solely to be consumed by teenage girls aged 12-18. I wouldn't read too much into it. Avrils entire aesthetic and public persona was designed by a marketing team at a record company.

this leads me to the question, why has she changed so much? many fans miss the old avril, to the point where they think the real avril died and has been replaced by a lookalike called Melissa in 2003. this is drastic change, that included at best plastic surgeries and changing her personality, and at worst that she has actually been replaced.

I wish we could slay (in the traditional sense of the word) this casual homophobia.

I still think Sk8ter Boi is a revenge song someone on her band/staff/whatever wrote because they had unresolved issues with a highschool girlfriend.

Wow. I did not know any of this.

But... tons of super famous really great musicians have died, and then never got corporate clones to keep going... so Why Avril? I didn' even know she still released songs.

Anyways, op, I think complicated is more about somebody simply being 2 faced man.

Is this the same guy that wrote a thread about another song of avril lavinge and mentioned that he though her cousin is hot?

I can imagine it now - a dark future where artists are simply cloned and replaced by record companies after they inevitably spiral into substance abuse, self destruction, and an early death. Cheaper than rehab!

I remember thinking Avril was really damn attractive as a young girl, being five years younger than her, but her music was too mainstream for tiny punk me to be able to just hang up a poster. At least now, years later, my girlfriend and I have both confessed our early crushes on her to each other.

Anyway, agreeing with the people in here, it's not that complicated. Whether she wrote the song or not, it doesn't mean that she made some weird pact to never change, even if it may have been for the sake of making money. It's her career, so, duh.

I'm surprised avril lavinge is still a thing to be honest

Haven't heard anything from her in years.

Thought she disappeared like 90% of the acts from back then

In the year 2018 somebody is doing a deep dive analysis of an Avril Lavigne song. What a world we live in.

Oh man, I read OP's other thread on Sk8er Boi and wow that was both hilarious and kinda creepy. Best part is how OP stated he blocked Cyanity and not to listen to his arguments (Cyanity was correct), and ignored everyone else on the topic of skaters, punks, and baggy clothing.

Holy shit this thread lol.

I hope you eventually complete your trilogy and delve deeper into the subtext of Girlfriend, OP. Even if it isn't really an Avril song.

Don't get the whole sell out thing.

Wasn't the punk image a label thing to capitalise off the anti Britney mindset plus the popularity of pop punk at the time?

At some point in life you realize everyone has it weird and hard. Everyone is ordinary, if someone doesn't see themselves as so then they're the ones who lack core understandings of what life is like for humans. These adolescent fantastical soliloquies about how they're not normal or how they're misunderstood is by and large a product of the same thing that defines that period of life and the jump to the next, a severe lack and growth of empathy and self awareness.

She grew up. And, if it suits you, think to yourself, alas.

Because writing like a child is clearly a homosexual trait, and I of course mentioned how much I hate those damn gays, right?

Talk about seeing ghosts

You sound like some Fox News talking head ranting about how Ebonics isn't "proper" English tbh.

Also "I didn't explicitly say I hate them so I can't be a bit bigoted" is pretty wack. Again, Fox News level defence.

Avril had to change because you're now allowed to have teen angst after you're a divorced adult millionaire.

How can criticizing they way some members of an internet group make me homophobic? Or is pop era another name for LGBT era? Do you have to be gay to be a part of it? Or do you just need to have trouble using real English words while speaking English? Aren't you assuming too hard my own sexual orientation? Because if I turned out to be gay it would kinda go against your argument, no?

If you came out of a hip-hop thread complaining about slang generally associated with black people you don't think people would be justified in giving you side eye?

I mean, you could just be an uptight prescriptivisit (although that has racist undertones a lot of the time), but I don't think you should be suprised that you got the reaction you did. If you are, maybe do some self-reflection.

Original Yolandi from Die Antwoord dies.
Original Avril fakes death to get out of the spotlight
She wants back in becomes the new Yolandi
Panicked record label replaces Avril...

It's simple really

My only comment on this thread is that Sk8r Boi starts in C and then modulates to A minor in the bridge and that kind of sums up Avril Lavigne.

This was my response to this thread + that post, too.

Also, nobody is bothered by the implication of randomly believing that "person X has been replaced! " ? Seriously, this should not be considered a normal, rational belief by anyone anywhere.

I don't know man, I came in knowing nothing and have to say it's a pretty persuasive argument. I want to believe now.

Languages evolve over time, and new terms are invented to describe something. Slang is actually a very important aspect of human language development. I mean even your so called English language was based on slang and derivation of other languages. Your argument is also disingenuous because those terms relate a lot to the LGBT community, and it's perfectly valid to interpret you as being homophobic by your previous post(regardless if it wasn't your intention). Like other have noted, it's no different than slang that represent other communities.

"Brilliantly written" is not a term I'd ever think I'd see used to describe Avril Lavigne's music.1

I'm just surprised that, of all artists, Avril Lavigne got a death conspiracy theory. I'm glad to learn that a fellow brazilian created it, so good my country keeps making the internet an awfully crazy place.

The theory itself sucks though, was expecting more symbolisms and stuff, a la Paul is Dead.
