I just watch that video and the premise of the game seem to be rooted in overt stereotype and has a much more hideous racial subtext. This game is a case study on how to appeal to a baser audience with very obvious wink and nod to discrimination and prejudice.

Taken at face value, this game is about a black man beating up asians. I don't think it needs to be said how this game is racist and anyone that does not believe this does not know the reality of black/asian racial fiction. To hand-wave this game as parody is disingenuous and speaks volumes on the life experience and thought process of an individual.

I went to youtube to watch the Kandy fight. I can't tell if she transformed into a butt with a really weird butthole or a butt with a gigantic vagina. Regardless, the actual fight against her and the accompanying dialogue was terrible. The best part is what was linked. They appear to be as bad at making brawler games as they are at making NBA Jam ripoffs.
That can only be a vagina, but they're treating it like the anus.

Looking at the original, Shaq Fu was always in that weird place where it tried to seem asian without having to go to the trouble of finding any cultural awareness or authenticity in it. The plot of the original game was Shaq going into a kung fu dojo with a Mr. Miyagi-looking guy inside, being told something about the stars, and then being warped to another planet to kung fu fight with aliens. Also, he fought a catgirl named Kaori.

So I didn't really have high expectations for it in this area going in. I'll have to give the video a look later, but it sounds bad.

This game has its tongue so far in its cheek it's ridiculous. How can you argue with masterful product placement like this?

You simply have no clue. I couldn't believe my eyes that anybody would really try to compare Shaq to Sabonis, that's what people should be offended about

I dread discussions where people are offended over such issues!
I could compare Galis to Jordan too if you like. They had a match in the 80s when Jordan was a college player and Galis scored 50 points against him.

And yet he's nowhere near the player Jordan is which shows how clueless you are in assessing player's talent, skills, athleticism and overall competition and applying it in any meaningful discussion.

He is famous in Europe and still remains top scorer in FIBA European and National competitions. Petrovic and other players admired him long before Jordan became what he is. All discussions are meaningful as long as you accept them.

OK. I don't know why I'm continuing this discussion. You win. You tapped me out with your strawmans. LOL. Good job.

I passed on this in the eshop, but watching these stupid cutscenes raised my interest. Some of the comments here are so over the top.

Biker in pink gloves / helmet with a unicorn helm & short shorts (with a heart tattoo) blushing when Shaq brings up "getting a ride on me"....come on.
Yeah it's called sexual innuendo

If anyone should be mad at anything it's the stereotyping of the biker and they way they portrayed him as gay

The sexual innuendo joke is not a problem.

I mean it's stupid, but it's not a problem by itself.

All good and fair points, it's just incredibly tacky and feels very...1992.

So you are saying that using homosexuality as a puchline isn't shitty?

As long as everyone is offended equally (no sacred cows), I'm cool. There's already a Donald Trump boss, do they have overweight white guys with red caps and shotguns as minions too?

I hope nothing bad actually happens to anyone because if it does Twitter will be even more whiny than it is now.

I don't understand how no one nowadays, can take a joke anymore. Everyone seems so sensitive and taken back by things like this. Yet the same people watch South Park and nothing is said. When did our society turn into this type of behavior or mental state? And if it offends you turn it off or dont support the developers games anymore. If I go to the movies or watching Television and something comes on I dont agree with, I just turn it off. I don't hunt out their next project trying to throw my at them money at them. Just my two cents.

I mean you are free to have your opinion and others are free to criticise stereotyping certain races and make fun of them just because of they are of that certain race.

So your argument boils down to : if it's making fun of the other but not me, then it's perfectly fine. This line of reasoning won't work because another game can easily flip the races and there would be a tremendous outcry.

It'll stop when people stop entering threads about sexual harassment to complain that the words used by the people calling it out have gotten annoying.
Um.... the people using the term "I'm not PC" are the same ones victim blaming those victims.

When you waste your money on a bad game to "own the libs"
Lol, we have people buying shovelware to spite other people online. Humans are silly creatures.
I legit once got into an argument with a Rick & Morty fan who then bought a copy of my game in order to "own me". It was incredible.

Where did I say that, at all? The portrayal of his homosexuality was what was problematic. The punchline was sexual innuendo. It could have been a woman and the joke could have had the same punchline. Yes I think using homosexuality as a punchline is shitty, and that's why im saying, their portrayal of the biker as a gay man is very shitty. I give zero fucks about someone making a dumb sex joke.

Arent both connected though? The stereotypical gay guy from the 80s/90s always wanted sex from whatever male partner.

Of course it wouldn't lol

The joke is "Shaw missed the cues the biker was gay and made the biker think he was also gay". You're meant to laugh at Shaw naive response, when he should have known better.

It's shit all around. Saying "it's just a double entendre" is completely disingenous.

I'm fine with offensive humor.

It has to actually be funny, though. Otherwise it's just embarrassing.

Also, cartoon Shaq at least needs dopey-er eyes. It doesn't even look like him.

Saying that what I'm saying is "it's just a double entendre" is completely disingenuous. I'm literally pointing out the same bullshit as you, except for some reason you are unironically typing "he missed the cue that he was gay" out as the issue when thats not an issue at all, and I am much more succinctly stating that they are portraying this biker to be gay via stereotypes like the ones everyone is complaining about. What are you even saying? That you are more outraged than me? I'm not outraged enough? You just told me that I don't think using homosexuality as a punchline is shitty for saying what I said? You are making allies out to be enemies for no reason.

I'm glad Shaq Fu exists, even if only to definitively prove that memes suck. The worst fighting game of 1994, resurrected because of its meme potential. Shaq Fu is alive and Streets of Rage is dead. What a tremendous result. Thank you, memelords of the Internet. You really stuck it to that PC culture.

The base game plays on a lot of stereotypes and just really over the top enemies. I'm not sure if they were made to intentionally offend any particular group though. But I do wonder what the reaction is going to be to the Barack Fu DLC that's coming out for this game.

It features Barack Obama taking Kanye, and at least one reference to "dicks out for Harambe" and playing a game of "Barack, paper, scissors" (which actually seems quite clever).
