The Laurie home defense/paranoia over the masked killer is straight out of Vice Prinicipals season 2 lol. I guess that was their test run for this.

Lol forreal, theres prolly some booby traps all over that place. Wonder if Laurie Strode has been practicing a one liner all that time in the mirror too before she tries to kill Michael

Freaking awesome trailer btw, looks very reverent of the first movie and a nice continuation of it. Also that shot of the mental hospital courtyard was dope

Two things.....

They seem to maybe be showing his face? This ever happened before in the other gazillion Halloween movies?

Only Halloween movies I've seen are one and two I believe , not entirely sure if I didn't see any others. Either way, is it ever explained how Mike can survive stabs, gunshots to the head etc? I'm probably just supposed to accept this and not worry about it, aren't i?

You see his face towards the end of the original and he "unmasks" in H5 but all you see is an eye...it's a lame ass scene.

Yes. This has happened on a number of occasions. You see his face in the original Halloween twice. Once as a child, and once when Laurie pulls his mask off near the end. You get a clear look at his face for a split second.

This looks pretty damn good. Hopefully it's the best Halloween since 4! I always found 5 a guilty pleasure, but I admit it's stupid and not scary. 6 is lackluster. H20 reeks of everything I hated about horror at the time (the post-Scream teen horror that was popular throughout the late 90s into a good amount of the 00s). Resurrection was a joke. Rob Zombie's Halloween movies were trash. This one, though, looks like it has potential based on the trailer allow. Whether it lives up to that potential has yet to be seen, but here's hoping!

But Blumhouse's Truth or Dare.

Trailer looks mighty good for this.
Blumhouse is the epitome of "Hit or Miss", when they "hit", they REALLY hit, but when they miss.....

There is a giant standard of quality when they turn out great movies like The Gift, and stinkers like The Gallows. Either they go for the actual GOOD movie, or "lets appeal to the most dumbest teens" movie.

I love Halloween as much as the next guy but saying this looks great is baffling. It looks ok, but not great. The issues I have with it are:

  • Mental Institution scene is bad.
  • Why even bother having Laurie if there is no connection with Michael. Makes it super coincidental that they run into each other again after 40 years.
  • The Teeth in the bathroom (the whole bathroom but really) reeks of Rob Zombie and seems out of character.
  • Laurie prepping for Michael's return for the last 40 years is way too clichè.
Having said that Im stay really excited for a new Halloween. I just don't think the trailer is that great.

Yes, this is how I feel. I'm not getting the stalker Micheal I like.

I think the only time MM clearly gets shot in the head is in Halloween 2, when Laurie blasts him in both eyes at the hospital. But that movie isn't canon any longer.

Is Halloween h2o not cannon? Wasn't Michael already decapitated?

For this film nothing after the first is canon, iirc. And in H20 it turns out that wasn't actually Michael that got decapitated, so he showed up again in Resurrection and killed Laurie because Jamie Lee Curtis didn't want to be in anymore of these.

Blumhouse is just a studio, not a franchise sharing the same producers and talent pool across the board or something

Its weird people expect a certain quality out of that. Their movies are about as good as the directors and writers behind the films for the most part, much like every other studio

This one got some pretty dope people behind the scenes, they certainly seem to have been saying the right things too with how they wanted to approach a Halloween sequel

Pulling out the mask scene makes me think it'll have some supernaturalish tones in it. Just keep it unexplained.
Until Season of the Witch that's pretty much how they always handled Michael. It was never explained how he survived half the shit he did outside of him being so evil that he just kinda...does.

See I don't get that. To me, the bathroom scene is the most Shape thing I've seen since Carpenter's original movie. All of the sequels basically created this perception that Michael Myers was some sort of killing machine robot. Like a Terminator in a Shatner mask.

No. Carpenter's The Shape was a playful madman. He dressed up as a ghost, posed bodies in front of his sister's tombstone just to scare someone, hung bodies upside down, broke pots just to scare people. Just from this trailer. dropping broken teeth, to decorating a corpse as a ghost, to putting a pumpkin in the aquarium...This is Carpenter's Michael Myers. Not the pale imitations that have followed since.

But studios can have a track record of hiring good directors/writers, etc. Like when you see A24's name on a movie, I have faith that it'll be good at the very least.

I only remember Jason having one reboot. Leatherface's series is so mangled that I don't even know what's a reboot anymore. They had the first series, then that one reboot, then a prequel to that reboot, then another reboot, then a reboot sequel to the first movie, then a prequel to the first movie.

I thought this looked pretty good. Though it wasn't very clear who the actual main characters were apart from Laurie.
Is it the man and woman questioning Michael in the asylum?
Just feels a bit weird featuring Laurie so much if she isn't the main character in this.

I also didn't like Michael just being locked up all this time, just takes away much of the mystery about him. Now he'd just some guy being locked up for 40 years.
I preferred the more mysterious is he or isn't he supernatural angle.

You make a fair point I just hope we get something like when he killed Annie Brackett. Him just watching in the background and us waiting for him to strike. I just don't see how we get that with everyone knowing he is coming at least his main targets.

That trailer alone was better than both of the Rob Zombie films. I can't fucking wait for this and the Suspiria remake all releasing within a month of each other.

So she's not dead and he's not dead and none of the stuff you think happened happened, unless this sucks, and then this didn't happen either

Of course you will get that. And as for the main targets thing

He has no target. He just kills people. It's Laurie who finds him. That scene where she shoots him in the mirror? That's the first time they cross paths in the movie.

Not really. Pretty sure he's just coming for her, sister or not. If you were a psycho killer wouldn't you want to go after the one who got away?

It's personal now lol

I know for a fact that I've seen most of the Halloween movies, but I really can't remember any of them except for the original and the Rob Zombie remake.
Is there any ret-conning? It seems like there is.

I hope the first half of the movie is the trailer, and the back half is Michael trying to survive the horror trap that is that house

Okay, that sounds better. Your point about Myers being a madman if you ever read the comics, he is an asshole.

Thought the trailer was absolutely miserable.
Literally the opposite of where I want this franchise to go.

In your face retcons to assure that "no we're the real sequel really", constant callbacks to the original movie, and a story that this franchise has literally done before and it wasn't appealing the first time.

The Halloween franchise consistently finds new ways to blow my mind to how disappointing it is. Shame, because Halloween 3 is a classic and I fear that it'll never reach that point again.

The inability to let Michael Myers go will forever be the bane for this franchise for me.

Even if they only count the first movie, Micheal Myers takes 6 shots at point blank range at the end of Halloween and he still gets up and walks away. So he should still be supernatural.

I've only watched the trailer once, but was the woman in the bathroom part of the film crew? The way that stuff was edited in the trailer made it look like Michael hunted the two of them down, killed them, and then got his mask back in that moment. If that's how it goes in the movie, him throwing the guy's teeth at her is even more fucked up than just some random dude's gnashers.

I think the premise is strong, I like that it's ignoring the sequels, but I'm seeing a lot of more over the top looking stuff in there that looks like it would have come right out of the sequels anyway. Not that the original didn't have a little bit of that, but it was pretty minor. I'm certainly more intrigued then I was when they first announced it but I'm not expecting a whole lot yet.

Yeah blumhouse is pretty good to great recently with some of their products but they also put out Truth or Dare and proudly displayed their name on that one so I'm not willing to believe anything that comes out of there is automatically good.

As unhappy as I am with the entire foundation for this film, I disagree with this angle. I thought the teeth thing was just as grimdark as I want out of the franchise, and any "reeking" of Rob Zombie is great for me! I loved 2009.

Just curious, but why the teaser before the trailer? I already clicked on the trailer.
I don't know myself, but I would assume for youtube ads that last for 5 seconds until you click the button.
