That is awful. Why didn't anyone catch any sign of depression? Our society needs to show more attention and love for each other.

Wow this is sad. I work the night audit at a hotel and caught his show quite often. Seemed like a nice guy with a love of culture. RIP.

Family needs to be notified maybe? Maybe they weren't sure it was a suicide. Respect for the dead?
...whose to say the family doesn't know? He was part of CNN, so i doubt they would publish without informing them. Additionally you don't see other networks breaking this news first because of his relation with CNN.

The Cyclone State
This one is crazy to me. I know Tony struggled in the past but he was such a family man that it would shock me if he didn't tell his family what he was going to do. As weird as that sounds.

Also he just got done with a new season of his show. Shit.

Really sad. He was posting things on Twitter just couple days ago. He called his recent work in Hong Kong a professional peak and was giving Weinstein shit.

Just watched his show for the first time last week when he went to Hong Kong and met Chris Doyle. I was surprised at how good it was. RIP

Pretty shocked by this, I watch his show religiously with my wife and always commented how he had the best job in the world, if I have to guess, drugs or depression got the better of him.
R.I.P Mr. Bourdain.

Fuck, this is a man who got to travel the world and enjoy the delights of cultures and cuisine and he stilled went this route.

What does that say for the rest of us who work in an office 9-5. Life is depressing, genuinely upset about this one

The last person I would have suspected a suicide. He seemed so full of the love of life.

He committed suicide? Holy fucking shit. He may have fashioned himself as a asshole chef but I'm sad to hear he killed himself. I absolutely loved him and his shows never would have thought someone like him and how he carried himself would take his own life.

RIP.

Left behind a kid, very selfish.

You know for sure that he was being selfish in this act?

You know depression fucks with your brain and how you perceive things, right? And that in his fucked up state he could have thought him killing himself was what would help his kid the most, right?

Damn man. RIP.

You could tell the man had a pure heart. Seeing all this world has to offer had to take a toll on him. This one hurts.

Fuck. RIP :( I've loved watching his show for years now, this is terrible. No idea he was so depressed, he seemed to have the dream job.

Wow, I loved his work on CNN. He seemed like a guy who saw the roughness of the world and persevered.

But I suppose like those facing such mental sorrows, the greatest roughness was one's own mind, the one we seldom even notice.

Deep condolences to those close to him.

I can't even process this. The man is one of the reasons I have the views on food and culture that I have now. He literally helped me grow up from being a picky eater to being one of the most adventurous people in my family and circle of friends. I still plan trips around his advice. Hell he is one of the reasons I am who I am today.

Fuck this timeline.

RIP.

I read all his books and made major life choices so that I could live in foreign countries due to his influence. Really sad about this.

He wrote about being suicidal in Medium Raw, I believe. That was a while ago but still, it doesn't go away easily.

RIP

This one is hitting in weird spots. He did a Parts Unknown in Nigeria a while back that I watched and it actually taught me a bit more about where I'm from, my people, and especially their music. I actually learned a lot from that episode. RIP to him and heart goes out to the family.

It really is a shame that so many feel its better to hide their demons and let them fester than open up to others and ask for help. Its not an easy thing to do with how our society views mental health issues, but it should not be this way. I wonder if he shared his struggles with family.

Truly shocked by this. Loved his show and the way he talked about food helped inspire me and push me more to choose to go to culinary school. RIP

Yes, I have depression and anxiety. It's selfish to leave behind a kid, sorry if this is a controversial statement.

I always looked up to him, thought he had the best job in the world, travelling, eating great food, meeting great people. Here I am in my fucked up existence losing friends and jobs and it really puts perspective on all this. Even with money and success they world still fucking sucks.

Man, depression must be an absolute bitch if you're a rich, world renowned chef who travels the world eating the best foods imaginable, can live wherever you want comfortably and still decide to end it all. I can only imagine he was in some kind of serious pain for some reason, I can't wrap my head around it. Thats if the suicide bit is correct.

Holy shit... Anthony Bourdain was one of my favorite TV personalities. My fiance and I loved watching his Travel Channel and CNN shows. RIP
