Anyone who prioritizes defending their darling movie over accepting that people expressing sympathy for the actress and disgust for this behaviour despite their ideas on the movie as a qualifier for their opinion (and to highlight the idea that no matter what you think about the movie and the character this is absolutely unaccepable) are the ones who are wearing their priorities on their sleeve.
Here you have people who are expressing sympathy for the actress and the usual suspects try to dictate how they do and make the topic the umpteen defence of the movie because criticizing it is the really unacceptable. It's bizzarre to see the TLJ Defence force being almost gleefully content of the abuse Tran is going through because it gives them the umpteen chance to throw vitriol at people who are critic about the movie. And that's the kind of priority that needs to be checked, honestly.
The only thing that matter here is that the poor woman had to suffer the attentions of the worst kind of fans, and "I hated the movie but your character wasn't the problem" and "I hated the movie but I'd still stand against the stuff you had to suffer" are perfectly acceptable messages of support, expecially for a movie as divisive as TLJ. Critics being vocal in their support for Tran is important because it shuts down the idea that everyone who didn't like the movie automatically hates the character of Rose or worse her actress.
I'm not really sure you thought this shit through.
- Someone gets harassed, to the point where they have to delete their Instagram
- Another person's response, as a form of "sympathy/support", starts off with: "I hated the movie but..." "I didn't like Rose but..."
How the hell is that an acceptable form of support? Why the fuck would she want to listen to people, who "try" to sympathize with her harassment, by starting their sentences with "I didn't like so and so..."
Yea... those are exactly the first words somebody who has suffered through harassment would like to hear. You fucking figured it out.
