Fox hired him to provide an "opposing" view.

Dude probably gives Trump nightmares.

Sucks that a large portion of Fox News watchers don't watch him, but instead indulge in conspiracy theories and racism provided by Hannity.

Damn, might as well burn his credentials because he just got lit up.

I love how that WSJ is such a coward and keeps backing away. Gotta toe the line though.

Scum.

Look, I'm sure on some level, Shep is a good guy. However, he get's paid a SILLY amount of money to do this job on Fox News. You might find it silly, but his job is to bring a shred of credibility to an otherwise garbage propaganda network. If Shep Smith was really looking out for his viewers, he would go on air, tell them that Fox News is load of shit, and quit.

I mean, I am no one to condemn someone from having a job.

If the guy drops truth in an otherwise truthless environment, I think that is more important than taking a stand no one will listen to.

I don't watch news ever and know nothing of this guy besides this clip though.

When FOX inevitably fires Shep there will be a bidding war between CNN and MSNBC for him. I can see him probably fitting in better at CNN.

was he hired to give an opposing view? my impression has always been that shep and chris wallace were real journalists who worked at fox news. perhaps just to provide cover for the rest of the network, but they strike me as actual new people even if they are more conservative leaning. as such they have some standards and actually report news as opposed to most of the rest of the presenters that are technically commentators or whatever and side with trump or indulge in conspiracy theories. i dont really watch the network so i dont know, but that was always my impression.

Shep is the only hard news reporter that Fox News has and, despite the majority of Fox bowing to the Trump party line, Shep don't play.

Shep reports the news as it is, rather than making it up like Hannity. Shep likes facts, not fantasy.

Christ that reporter is a feckless turd
They all are at this point. They all dance around the fact trump lies on a daily basis and come up with a million and one words to describe trump lying without actually using the words lying.

Shep is there real news guy. Natural Disasters or other real news and he is on. FoxNews is an actual news channel for about 2 hours a day then it switched into Opinion Host Mode while still calling itself news

Thanks for the confirmation.

You say this, but there are plenty who call it as is.

Maybe you mean the News conglomerates, now that I would agree with.

I think he has said a few times in the past that the other parts of Fox were not news and merely entertainment or op-eds. I might be confusing it with someone else though.

IDK, it's a job and he does it well in an otherwise pretty biased news network. Maybe he's on a shit news network, but he can at least provide some small ray of fucking sense into people locked on this channel by having a voice in this position. That's better than a 100% shit channel. :lol

He actually has good ratings, which is why Fox News continues to keep him on, outside of just to "balance" things out.

Now, how many of those viewers are typical Fox News viewers, I guess that's hard to tell, since I can't imagine people who don't usually watch Fox News would tune in to the shitty network just for Shep.

Fox keeps him so they can pretend to be legitimate news organization. Only reason they keep him around.

They won't fire him. He is there to give them a small shred of credibility so the other 99% of the channel can peddle the crazy shit.

Does it matter though? He's knowingly playing into Fox's end game.. He knows he is there to bring just a little credibility to the network so they can have plausible deniability. He also makes 8 MILLION a year.

If you really think about it, legitimizing a propaganda network isn't really worth it though. If you look at ratings breakdowns, people aren't flocking to watch Shep Smith.

I've never watched this guy before but he sounds surprisingly professional for Fox News. Did he lose a bet?

It's called playing the game of life in Easy Mode(tm).

When you're surrounded by low effort nonsense, even basic work looks amazing. Good/great work looks mind-blowing by comparison.

He is right. But the fact that an obvious truth is so controversial exposes the corrupt role of the modern media in the American political process.

When FOX inevitably fires Shep there will be a bidding war between CNN and MSNBC for him. I can see him probably fitting in better at CNN.

They will never fire Shep Smith. His job is the most secure among all pundits. The mountain of bullshit at Fox News? Shep's near-impeccable credibility is the point on which all of that is balanced.

I love how liberals love this clown because he's anti-Trump. This is the same dude that shamelessly supported GOP lifers for years and was considered evil like the rest of Fox News pre-Trump.

I'd be more willing to condemn Shep if their general viewership didn't hate his fucking guts. Check out comments sections, Twitter etc regarding clips where he lays down some truth. Especially when it comes to somebody like Hannity. He forces those turds to hear actual news every now and then, and I enjoy how uncomfortable that makes them. I suspect Shep does too.

Edit: Wow my post was perfectly timed lol

Your lack of avatar, and comments seemed oddly canned. I don't really mean that as an insult but it for sure seemed like some drive by trolling in an attempt to sew disagreement. I'm sorry we live in this world lol.

Okay, and I am sorry you are an asshole.

Sorry, I didn't mean it as an insult. I just felt like insulting you and do not want you to think I actually meant to insult you.

Dude has a long ass post history you could have glanced at. Better than jumping to conclusions over a disagreement.

Telling the truth to people that avoid it is more important than throwing away the opportunity for a few seconds that may never air.

PreTrump I heard the same comments on neogaf. The community has always liked Shep but with Trump the stanning became more frequent for obvious reasons.

I really liked the one where he took apart the Uranium One conspiracy live on air. It's such a stupid conspiracy (the big donation to the CF happens in like 2006 ffs, 3 years before HRC becomes SoS, and the guy sells his stake in the mining company shortly after), but it gets so much play on the right.

I dunno i feel like he's more effective when he keeps speaking truth — it's basically the only truth those viewers ever hear. If he quit those people would forget and he'd be replaced with more propaganda. Better he takes Fox' money than someone else.

I don't really think he gives people the false impression that Fox is truthful — the people that think Fox is truthful think shep is a loony liberal and the people that know what Fox is know that Shep is an anomaly.
