Something I noticed while playing Mario Odyssey on my B7 last night..

I was in the snow world, so lots of white. I panned the camera up towards the sky and the picture for super dim all of a sudden. What could be causing this? Is there a setting that's doing it? I haven't really noticed it with any other content but it was really jarring and distracting.

Sounds like ABL

In general settings do you have the energy saving feature turned off?
Yeah, energy saver is off.
Sounds like ABL, depending on how high your SDR OLED light is, will determine how noticeable ABL is when it happens, snow white level is a classic case.
I'll have to check. The input my Switch is on I haven't fiddled with any settings, so it's whatever the default is for Standard picture mode.

On that note, has anyone used the 'fake' HDR modes on LG OLEDs for SDR inputs? Does it make a difference or add to input lag (assuming it increases the lag somewhat).

Standard is pretty bright, so that's why you're noticing it like you are.

Fake HDR is around 60ms, I did try it, but it's not great, plus I want low lag.

I found HZD and Destiny 2 in campaign "playable" in HDR outside game mode but game mode is a lot more responsive.

Oh you're asking about the fake HDR 'Effect' Mode? Nah I don't use that. Just seems gimmicky. See no reason to not use game mode for SDR

You should try PC mode, as that gives you low input lag, and accurate rec709 colour space, with calibrated settings, instead of forcing wide colour on SDR game mode.

Hmm interesting. How do I do that?

Press home, go to the icon that looks like a cable, choose 'all inputs' then select 'edit icon' choose PC, from the drop-down, and that's it, you'll have the isf picture presets, with the option of choosing the right colour space for SDR gaming.

What's the benefit of doing all of that? Sorry, that's a very uninformed question.

It gives you more accurate colours, Inc 21ms lag, than compared with game modes forced wide colour gamut, plus you can use the isf calibrated presets for non gaming, like films etc, and move the settings over.

Also you can enable 4:4:4 chroma, for PC use too.

It may well be something that's not to your liking, as it sounds like you prefer the standard non game preset, accurate pictures do take some getting used too, if you have never had them before.

Anyone with a B7 having lip sync issues using the Netflix app and Dolby ATMOS?

It's pretty bad for me when I watched Altered Carbon the other night. It's like more than a few seconds off. I tried adjusting the A/V sync in settings but it didn't help. The only thing that fixed it was turning off dolby atmos in the Netflix settings.

Atmos for ATV 4K just confirmed live on stage at WWDC

E: sounds like it's coming in fall and if you already own stuff in 4K and it has Atmos, it'll get added for free

I'm open to trying it out, it's just that I haven't had the time to fiddle with things for my Switch input since I primarily play it with it undocked. I'll look into it!

I had a quick question. Is it possible to repair a 4k LED TV where it is broken inside the screen not the outside screen? My daughter decided to throw a toy at the tv. I have black bars going up and across my screen from that point.

There's a possible issue with my LG OLED, and I'm pretty concerned about it: I've noticed in the last few days that there's a horizontal line going through the middle bottom of my screen that's only viewable under certain colors, namely red and orange and similarly light colors.

I tested this out under different devices, and plugged them directly to the TV instead of my receiver in order to confirm:

https://abload.de/img/img_1659bgqq1.jpg
https://abload.de/img/img_1662y2oea.jpg

It's a bit hard to see on the photos, but you should be able to see what I'm talking about on the second photo (it also shows how the line shows up on the second row of colors but disappears when laid against other colors).

Could this be a burn-in issue? I watch a lot of YouTube, so maybe that's why it shows up under red colors?

Right now the only option I can think of trying is the "Clear panel noise" option, which is running now (takes an hour). Otherwise, anyone have any ideas what this is and how I could fix it (if possible)?

Does anyone here have any experience with SquareTrade warranties?

Costco is giving them away with B7A purchases and if the warranty process is as easy as it seems with them...that would really help ease my concern about possible burn in.

I don't believe SquareTrade covers burn-in. The only warranty I've seen that does is Best Buy.

The "clear panel noise" option didn't work. There are some YouTube videos that feature flicking colors for a set amount of hours that claim to remove pixels and burn-in. I'm trying a 2 hour one now.

Again, getting concerned here. Is this something I could fix on my own? The TV was bought late 2016 so the warranty should have run out, I think. I don't know if my best option would be to pay to fix the issue or just move on to a new TV.

On that note, has anything come out recently that exceeds the 2016 E6 series of LG OLEDs (that is also not ludicrously expensive)?

I have more visible burn-in than you do and after my initial "oh shit" moment I stopped caring, because it's not visible in 99% of content. Are you sure it's a big enough deal to change the TV or panel?

Why not wait for HDMI 2.1 TVs with VRR to upgrade?

I get pretty stubborn when it comes to TVs: if there's even a small defect that I only see a fraction of the time, it frustrates me and makes me want to get a replacment.

But hopefully it won't come to that. I just like to weigh all my options ahead. Do the 2.1 TVs have a date yet?

Well in the meantime my question still stands: can my issue be fixed, and if so then how?

Joined the club today with a 55" LG B7. Absolutely in love with it so far. Only tried Horizon 3 on the gaming front, and it looked fabulous, but Lost In Space on Netflix blew me away.

though the internal speakers or via arc? if so then its something thats mentioned all over the place for lip-sync issues on the 6 and 7 series. Work around is having an AV reciever that does Atmos that you go directly to rather than arc - but that doesn't help with built in Netflix.

Apple TV 4K users: Is it easy to change iTunes regions to stream foreign content? I want to purchase and watch movies that are released earlier in the US from the UK. Is that possible?

That alpha9 processor seems to be more of a disappointement than anything really.
Upscaling is more or less equal, same with motion performance.
I was expecting LG to be more competitive with what Sony or Pana offers.

Yeah honestly, between the C7 and C8 I don't notice a difference in upscaling. Motion seems maybe 10% smoother in 24p content.

The menu speed feels 50% faster if thats believable lol

Disappointing as I was hoping their upscaling would benefit from the new chip and be on par with sony. Guess I'll keep my 2016 model another year...

I mentioned on AVS forum that for a week now or so my Netflix on the internal app on my oled has been out of av sync. Literally nothing changed on my end so sounds like a Netflix issue right now.

I don't have an Apple TV, but this is really an iTunes question, and the answer is that you can't switch regions. Instead, you have to make a separate account per region, login to that account, and then (for paid content) either use itunes cash cards or a CC from that region to pay for it. (Sometimes PayPal can be used). There is no way to merge accounts, and converting an account from one region to another is a problematic, one way move where it permanently erases ownership of anything that can't carry over.

Switching iTunes accounts does not affect your iCloud login or App Store login - it strictly affects iTunes - but there is another limitation: when you login to a new account it locks you out of switching back and downloading owned content for a certain number of days (Varies per region). In the case of Canada/US my experience was that if I switched to my US account I could switch back but couldn't redownload anything I owned for 30 days.

Hey guys-

Any Sony 930e or 900 series owners here? Does Vudu not support HDR 10 thru the app on the tv?

Oh shit Dolby Vision works thru Google Play on the Sony app!

Poodles. I guess I'll just stick with my UK account. Thanks.

Yeah that's ABL. It seems to be a built in safeguard to protect the panel. It's probably the biggest downside of having an OLED but its usually only noticeable in scenes with a lot of bright white or yellow. For example I notice it in BOTW when I'm in Gerudo Desert and pan the camera around to be looking at the sand. To be fair though I run my OLED at peak brightness in gaming and ABL could probably be reduced by turning the panel light down but I haven't tried it as it doesn't really bother me.

Would this be good for console gaming?

IIRC consoles are still only capable of displaying at 60hz. You wouldn't be able to take advantage of this monitors 144hz refresh rate. Gsync is also not supported in consoles. This monitor would be best suited to a high end gaming PC. That's not to say it wouldnt work really well with a console too but your missing out on some of it's best features.

Swapped the OLED B7 for the X930E and I couldn't be happier so far. Motion handling on this TV for me is vastly better and HDR feels more "subtle."

Missing those infinite blacks and viewing angles but this TV is beautiful

All that matters is that you are happy with your set. I am sure the usual consortium of OLED enthusiasts will tell you that you made the wrong choice and that OLED is the only way to go, but all that matters is what you see with your own eyes. I am loving my Q9 and it has very good blacks with the brightness and punch of the ZD9. OLED are no slouch and they are great sets, but for some they prefer LCD and they are great for gaming as well. Glad you found something that you are happy with. As enthusiast, sometimes finding a good set can be a challenge.
