Second race 1st lap was fairly busy. :)

I was so lucky up the hill at the beginning, managed to squeeze past everyone unscratched. Went 9th to 3rd in one turn

For me it went better than expected, I did only one mistake (on race 1) but for the rest I was pretty consistent. Had some cool moments with Jambo and DHC. At one point during race 2, when I had no one in front or behind me, everything clicked and did a 1:29.1
Thank you again GHG, loving the new format!

GHG You definitely fell asleep at the wheel at the end of lap 4 in race 1 :-)

Mate I was all over the shop in race 1.

I had a decent qualifying session, started the race ok then I just couldn't concentrate anymore and lost my rhythm. All downhill from there and I never recovered. The second race had a similar pattern. I was ok for the first 5-10 minutes after we took the break then I just started to shut down again. Luckily I had opened up a gap at the front at the start so I didn't fall as far.

Usually I coffee up for these races but it then means I struggle to get to sleep after so I decided not to his week as I needed to be up early this morning for a call with a potential client in Singapore :(

Well that was a night to forget for me!

Struggled in qualifying, just kept messing up the last corner which ruined the lap I was on and the next lap - I think I scared vasilisk too at one point by reversing up the straight to have another run at the start...

So started 6th but managed to gain a couple of places on the 1st lap but lost 1 again to Anythingbut at the hairpin so back down to 5th in that lap and then Sejanoz got me on the straight going into the 2nd lap and I was back down to 6th. My plan from here was just to take it easy with no big risks and hope the guys ahead slipped up, and it did work for a while with GHG falling off after the hairpin, Sejanoz on the esses and JamboGT on the slow corners at the end of the lap and I was up to 3rd. It couldn't last tho and I lost the back end on the first slow corner to let Sejanoz back through and then on the 2nd slow corner to let JamboGT through too. From there I was just on my own to the finish line, tho it was a good job I'd opened up a bit of a gap as I dropped the ball again on the last lap but had enough time to retain my place.

So race 2 I decided to do a bit of a different strategy on the TC as it was that catching me out in the slow corners so I'd flip between TC1 for most of the lap and stick it back on TC2 for the last few bends. The problem was at the start I wasn't on the radar screen and after the chaos of the first corner I was getting swamped by faster cars coming through. Found myself on the outside of the hairpin trying to avoid rear ending CLR_CMOS and then it took only a small nudge from AbandonedTrolley who was battling cooldawn to send me into the gravel trap and I spun the bloody thing getting back out. Down to last place, wonderful! Got my head down and my composure back over the next few laps and start to reel in the guys ahead (helped by a few guys going off). I was feeling pretty good having managed to close right up to cooldawn in 6th and I could see JamboGT ahead in 5th but got a bit carried away on turn 1 when I saw an opportunity to pass and had a big off. Time was running out now and I was pushing hard to try to close the gap when I had another off and that was it, 7th place :-(

Don't know what happened to my pace tonight, I went quicker in the practice beforehand but just couldn't find it in the race. Hoping for better next week! :-)

So I didn't take the big hairpin or the last corner properly once in the race, other than that I was ok, could purple sector one haha.

Glad it's over and done with, I have to be honest the stock setups are affecting me as it isn't how I ever play the game but I totally understand the level playing field it gives.

Now to deal with a stock FWD...

Do you not play sport mode :O ?

Brake bias all the way to the rear should do the trick this week ;)

DHC-Shannow noooo, don't share the replays from this weeks race, we need to stick together and keep things like this hidden when we have bad weeks :)

I found in my testing (before I discovered I couldn't make it) that the Porsche behaved much better and more predictably with TC0–and I'm normally a TC2-kinda guy.

Reading the posts here, it sounds like I missed a right hoot of a race.

Haha yeah I did consider keeping these horror shows to myself :-) The start of that 2nd race was just manic with cars all over and I kept getting boxed in, and no bloody radar on too. Oh and apologies to JamboGT for nearly pushing him off!

I had a decision to make before the race - I could be slower but less likely to make a costly error and stick to TC2 or be brave and go TC1. TC0 was no faster for me and more likely to stick it into a barrier. If I drove smoothly then TC2 wasn't actually that much slower, it was only when I was a bit aggressive on the controls that it'd kick in and slow me down so probably would've been a better choice in the end.

To be honest that Porsche isn't a favourite of mine but I got used to it in the end. Just feels like a tank most of the time...and I'm not sure they are supposed to feel like that lol!

Really surprised DHC-Shannow didn't just glide by at the first corner during the second race. After that I managed to keep him behind. That's a morale victory for me ha : )

I had fun, but like Witcher Vasilisk had zero time to practice again, the car was certainly a little slippery! I checked my replay and saw I took DHC-Shannow off in the second race, first lap but if you check you can see that it seemed we were 3 abreast I got a tap from cooldawn which ended with me tapping you. Sorry about that.
Sorry about that tap. I could see it coming before it happened but there was no getting away from it.

Simply awful races for me. I really dislike the circuit in that configuration.
I hope they release a configuration that excludes that bloody hairpin.

I don't play Sport mode that much to be honest, really need to spend more time there, I tend to just race with some mates.

Since the original game setting cars up has been half the fun for me!

Anyone up for some practice @ Brands? I've done a 1:30.6 so far that's 2 seconds up on what I managed yesterday :-)

Brands with the Scirroco = 1:30.082. Nearly had 1:29 but fucked up last two corners.

Nice :-) Took me a while to beat it but I got the Scirocco down to 1:29.6 :-)

Great time. I put in around 10 laps but the Scirocco feels great round that track. I can put down consistent high 1:30's and my optimum time was around 1:29.4. I haven't tried the Magane yet. I'll do that tonight. Kinda bummed I didn't get to 1:29 but it was super late and I was tired af lol.

The Mégane seems quicker on the straights but understeers more in the corners and doesn't feel as nice to drive to me. I'm sure it can be hussled around in the same time though (I did a 1:30 before moving on).

I just remembered something. Since I'm doing Time Trials for fun, I can do them using VR! Last time I did VR, I improved my best times by a good margin. Before I get my hopes up, I'll ask this again, does VR give you improved driving aides? You can definitely "feel" the difference but I'm not sure if its just the VR effect.

Nope you can set everything up exactly the same in the menu so no additional aids, just remember to set anything up prior to going in as you can't change TC or brake bias without coming back out to the menu.

Interesting. I ran Tsukuba with the F40 and did terribly. Just so hard to control and get a feel. Nevermind the brakes...However, using VR, it just felt so alive and controllable. Such a joy to drive and "feel"

It could be a perception thing. I don't have VR but I I find that I can often set faster times in cockpit view and I can certainly control the car and catch slides better in cockpit view. I don't race in it though because the view is too restrictive. I imagine VR is taking the same concept to the next level adding in depth perception and such!

If this ever gets implemented in the full game and not just TT's...it will ultimately be required for everyone serious enough to race competitively. It is that much of an advantage. I tested it on quite a few cars and beat every single one of the records for them in my TT lap time board. In other words, you guys should definitely give it a shot if you can. Such a great experience...and this is just with a pad lol.

I don't even know how I'd get set up. All three of the USB ports on my Pro are taken up already with my Wheel, wireless headphones and external hard drive

Same, I definitely have better spatial perception with cockpit view. I just wish PD would add some stuff like the proximity shadows to make it more usable in races. I have used cockpit in daily and FIA races and actually done pretty well, but it depends on the car and the race.

Doing a few laps with the Scirocco, got it down to 1:30.3 so far. Driving a FWD car around Brands feels so wrong. Gearing in the Scirocco is a bit odd, 1st gear is mostly useless and 2nd seems pretty short as well.

At least I should be more competitive than last week.

edit: just got a 1:29.2. Optimal was 1:28.6, so there's still more to squeeze out of this VW.

Really? Has someone forgotten to put BOP on? If not I reckon you are in contention for a podium finish! Or I need to do some serious practice. My best so far is 1:30.4

BOP is on for the next race guys, the Scirocco and Megane should be pretty evenly matched across the course of a whole lap.

Hey I can post a screenshot if y'all don't believe me. :P. That was with BoP on, RS tires.

Brands is just one of the few tracks I'm fairly decent at, I time trial it often with the Ferrari Gr.3.

Can't say that I have such a speed difference bud, what camera do you use normally? I use bumper cam so switching to VR means I don't get the same info about where the kerbs are etc so I don't place the car as precisely.

eyeball_kid I didn't doubt you could be faster than me but when you had times faster than DHC-Shannow and saying you could still get more out of it I thought something had to be up.
At least you found out it's RH now and not on race night so you still have time to practice :-)

Managed a 1:29.7 but averaging high 1:30s. Oddly enough I did it with the controller, I'm about a second slower on the wheel :/
I'm going to try and lower my time with the wheel, I think Im braking too hard vs the controller where I can coast more and carry more speed in the corners.

Ok. I finally broke into 1:29.931. I think it's just my second to last corner that needs fixing since I lose a lot of time there.

So...VR doesn't magically give you seconds on your laps. BUT!!! My lap times were super consistent. 1:30.200-500. I had no problems keeping that up even when pushing it.

I still am convinced there's some kind of assist. Or, maybe, since your FOV is much greater, the lateral equivalent of your steering/joystick moving left and right have that much more room for manueverability. In other words, better control aside from the advantage of VR FOV.

If you are on the fence, time attack is much more enjoyable with VR.

Apparently VR is gonna be down to £199 the week of E3 that's probably low enough for me to bite the bullet.
Best time in the Scirocco so far 1:30.241 I defo feel I can get sub 1:30 now

Do it! Do it! Do it! :-)

If enough of us have it maybe we can have a VR time trial competition!

As for sundays race, qualifying is going to be so important and extremely close - this is gonna be more like British Touring Car racing than anything else we do with the tight qualy and narrow track. Hopefully no carnage on corner 1 unlike some of our endurance race starts!. The reverse grid is going to be a lot tougher for the fast guys at the back to come through and win too so there's more chance of a diferent winner.

So my Platinum headphones would they plug in directly wired to the VR Headset? Because with my wheel and external HD plugged in I have a severe lack of USB ports available.

Yes, you need to plug into the headset to get the 3D binaural sound. You've got a Pro haven't you with the 3rd USB around the back?

As Sejanoz mentioned in the other thread, have you ever tried VR and do you know if you get motion sick? I jumped in as soon as they became available and i'm lucky as I don't get motion sick but some people can suffer really badly from it. I demoed GT in VR to 2 workmates, 1 was absolutely fine but the other felt sick all night after sticking the X-Bow into a barrier and doing 3 spins!
