My thoughts on the games' sales:
Sales for P3D and P5D are rather poor, which is no surprise to me, and I have to wonder if it's a surprise to Atlus.
  • Two full priced games released at the same time.
  • Low content value for both games (no story mode, low amount of songs, bare-bones overall)
  • Lack of novelty compared to P4D
  • Very large amount of DLC right out of the gate
I feel like these releases were rather experimental for Atlus. Bluntly put, a lot of it could have been to test how much they could gouge fans. I feel like the two-release format, the fact that the development cycle was fast and not resource intensive for these two games, and that Wada decided he didn't need to be director on these since he had more important things to work on are indicative of that.

So low sales and the fact that P3D and P5D are not a hit is a good thing. It won't give them the wrong idea moving forward, thinking that they can sell just based on the name alone.

Now that I think about it some more, I think Japanese reception to the games might play an important part as to why Atlus USA has been so unusually silent regarding them. Aside from obviously saving them for E3, how they were critically and financially received in Japan could be what they were waiting for in terms of how to market/release the games in the West.

ok seriously i don't understand the clear condition.
Ahahaha ohhh noo I forgot about that. So it's that bar on the top left and if you fuck up a few notes too quickly in succession it's basically an auto-fail regardless of how well you did up until then. Legitimately one of the most idiotic mechanics I've seen in a rhythm game.

A few extra dlc up, yakuza costume and free morgana sonic. Also free p4d Dance! OP.
I'm loving these free shits. It probably won't end up being $200 dlc after all but damage has been done, now everybody is wishing death upon this game.
Shame, because it's a very enjoyable game. Oh well, their loss.

Got the platinum trophy for P5D. Despite a few issues i really enjoyed the game, liked most of the remixes and dressing up the characters was fun, COMMU is a good replacement for story mode too. Managed to get 20+ hours in just P5D alone somehow so i'm happy.

Do you have a list for a trophy guide? And for P3D :<?

The game is fun, I love every song that I have encountered but fuck if the game as whole is not bland. P4D felt more complete than both P3D and P5D

lol, there's a lot of things I would never think to do on that list. I think I got the speed-fail done already since that's an easy trophy, but I hadn't looked into which tutorials I should have done or finishing a song without scratching (lol)

I remember in P4D I once played a song just mashing the triggers the entire song. I guess that's still a thing.

Atlus basically checked every box, but the dancing games there do stand out as being the only ones for one platform (rip vita).

Should probably be announced this week, E3 badge tease is normally around today too.

Quick question, how do you unlock/choose other characters for each song? Some songs that had the MC in it from the first time I played are now random characters and I nave no idea to switch back. Also I wanna switch some characters in other songs too.

Anyone know how?

The main dancer can't be changed. Backup dancers are unlocked based on which difficulty you picked, but you can just scroll down to them and change it to ones you've already unlocked in the menu right after picking the song.

Finished all the Commu last night. Took me 12 hours and change, about halfway through Hard play through. Makoto and all the accessories was the long pole, if I had started throwing random junk on my dancers earlier I may have gotten through it quicker.

Comparing the unlock system in P3D/P5D to the more traditional P4D, I think they come out right around the same amount of time to get everything, but the deal with money/purchasing in P4D was I could prioritize what I wanted to unlock and also could do it wearing what I wanted, without having to use random outfits/accessories to get there. I think I prefer the old system. The scavenger hunts in the rooms was neat though.

It reminds me of the changes in Project Diva X vs. the previous games, having to choose specific modules/accessories to get specific perks, just let me wear what I want dammit.

One thing i really want to do before I shelf these games is to try it out using the Project Diva Arcade controller, I think it might be fun. I would need to rewire/reconfigure some things but I think it might work well, outside scratch notes.

Got it, thanks. I messed with the options, made note speeds slow and other things. finished hard difficulty. Now hardest difficulty is something else even with those options haha...

I like Commu more than P4D for unlocks because in P4D you had to play through story mode to get everything, which included playing everything on easy. In P3/5D you can just stick all the outfit options on random and get 90% of the objectives by playing normally.

Make notes faster, not slower. Much easier to read when you get used to it.

P4D in game link to the DLC works now, provided you are playing from your JP account.

Also, why did I not realize the Race Queen outfits were DLC :(

my eyesight isn't really the best, even with my glasses on. I had it slower to get through hard mode. Having it slow for the hardest difficulty makes it still feel hard. I can't imagine the faster option will do any better.

It's actually a fairly universal thing in rhythm games - once the muscle memory is learned, faster is always easier to read. The slower the note speed, the more difficult it is to gauge correct timing, and too much information is provided, leading to overload.

In some games, people go so far as to obscure a portion of the screen to avoid information overload. The screen layout of this game doesn't really let you do that effectively, but just turning the speed on helps.

These were recorded with the speed almost as high as the game allows. There is no memorization involved - in both cases, it was the very first time I played the chart:

Seconding this. Slowing down the notes too much will actively make it way harder, while speeding it up should help a bunch if you find the right setting for yourself.

I guess I need more practice then to actually figure this out. you state is muscle memory that will come with practice. I can agree with that at least when i recently played on the normal speed on normal and hard difficulties. I did better than I thought. That is normal, you guys are saying speed it up so I will have to mess with it.

Unrelated just thought it was funny

randomizing costumes can be fun at times.

I will say that I found it less helpful than usual with P4D (haven't gotten the new ones yet) because of its weird layout, but it is a pretty reliable general rule of thumb.

For me faster just increases the spacing between notes making them easier to read.

When in upper difficulties there are a lot of notes keeping the slower speed just pushes them closer and they all run together as I'm trying to read them. It would be like writing out sheet music on a post-it.

I have platinumed P5D, I'm now working on P3D.

As of now, I think that P5D has the best "base" songs, but P3D has the best remixes.
And there are many more remixes than normal songs, so....

I also think P3D seems harder than P5D so far.

L (Beneath the Mask), Tanaka and Fate is in Our Hands DLCs up, along with laughably overpriced racing outfits. Tanaka is free.

Next week is Sho (Break Out Of...), Phoenix Ranger Featherman Theme and Mass Destruction Live.

Geez, coming back to this game after being too busy to play for a month and tons of DLC is out, lol

I'm probably going to be streaming I the evenings if people wanted to watch me finish up the unlocks. I finished up tonight's stream a bit ago but you can check out the VOD until it expires: https://twitch.tv/starcreator

P5D is probably going to be my main platform for DLC above P3D simply because I find yellow notes easier to read than blue notes (which causes some color confusion with scratches). I have no idea why someone thought that was a good idea.

Why is this so long

Trying my best to just get 1 measly song done on Hard with King Crazy. Almost there with Willpower (Shacho remix)
Different things work for different people, but I find it easier not to stress out over getting a full combo too much. Give it three or four attempts, but drilling it eventually becomes counterproductive and just gets you more and more frustrated.

For this game in particular, I suggest moving on to All Night as soon as possible, in order to avoid building muscle memory around the limitations built into the lower difficulties (chords always being parallel inputs, double holds always ending on the same note, etc.)

I've never been able to do All Night not in 4 either. I don't think I ever will be. Only a select few songs in 4 I can do on Hard because the rhythm is fast and easy to follow. In 5 there seems to be less so far for me. :(

I did finally manage this one though!

Congrats! I'm in the same boat with All Night difficulty, never really been able to manage it. I found the P3D and P5D songs easier to King Crazy than the P4D ones though. I think I've only managed a couple of KCs in P4D while I've done over half of the non DLC songs in P3/5D.
For what it's worth, I've found Price to be the easiest song in the game.
