Are you for real? Walter White and Vic do most the despicable crap they do with no greater motivation than they are dicks. Elizabeth and Philip sincerely believed what they were doing was necessary for the survival of their country.

That makes them deluded but doesn't change anything in the end. They still murder people, use them, abuse them, manipulate them. They are some of the most heinous people ever on tv.

As much as I like them, that's the truth, Elizabeth especially. Her casually dropping a car on a complete stranger to free up a position at a Northrop plant is one of the most fucked up things I've seen outside of shows about psychopaths/serial killers.

That and forcing that kindly old lady to OD on heart pills were beyond the pale.

Legendary moment in TV history, ladies and gentlemen.

Still, that was a brilliant fucking scene in the garage.

Had to be an homage to Hank confronting Walter White in the garage, right?

We finally caught up with the finale...fantastic series from top to bottom. Got better each season it seemed.

The finale is about the happiest ending possible given the reasonable parameters...which is bizarre to say cause it's still one of the most haunting/depressing finales ever lol

just caught up and I'm so happy they nailed the ending. I thought they might flashforward to the USSR collapsing but I suppose they didn't need to. Paige not being on the train is the first time I've gasped at a show in a long time

Elizabeth must've truly felt like a terrible parent. You spend your entire life as a parent convincing your kids to believe in your ideals and her daughter just ups and leaves at the most crucial moment. Her service to her country was a waste. Her parenting was a waste. Its really devastating.

I don't think Paige's leaving necessarily means she doesn't want anything to do with the ideals anymore. She seemed pretty on board when it came to the anti-american stuff.
She probably just realized she has no connection whatsoever with the soviet union and the life that awaits her there.

Yeah but I feel like Elizabeth wanted to prepare her for this moment when shit hits the fan. And she wasn't all that successful.

As tragic as it is, there's a way to read it (and if you're Elizabeth, maybe years and years down the road if ever) that they actually instilled a sense of strength in Paige that gave her the will to make an enormous and scary life choice all by and for herself. That's something a parent could be proud of I think.

Philip also has a son (who seems to be a nice "kid") in Russia, as well as a brother apparently.
Elizabeth has Philip
Stan has Matthew (and Renee :/)
Henry has Stan, Chris and his rich friend

I'd say Paige is the worst off.

Huh? Naw...

That safe house is fully paid for...she is going to have a place to live rent free! Plus I bet it's stocked with alcohol and cool Russian movies on VHS

Plus, Henry was always lied to and was abandoned by everyone. Paige knew her parents and was able to choose to leave them.

Rewatching the garage scene.

It is masterful, one of the best things on television I've ever seen. People are honest in ways they've never been, and yet motivations are still left unclear (Stan let them leave). Just, every thing about it leaves my stomach in knots.

Yea, I really don't think Paige was lying when she told Stan her stomach hurt

Rewatched the finale and it's even better the second time when you don't have to worry about what's gonna happen or what you want to happen, and you can just enjoy it for what it is.

I noticed something interesting. In Henry's fake passport that they throw in the hole, he looks way younger in the photo (like Henry from season 1 or 2). He's also not in disguise (obviously). I wonder if not using a more recent photo of Keidrich Sellati was intentional, as in Henry was so neglected that Philip and Elizabeth didn't even bother to update his passport in their bug-out bag.

I'm pretty sure they were all old photos, it's just that Keidrich Sellati aged more drastically than Holly Taylor.

It's just a different hairdo, but it makes her look surprisingly different.

I also like that one from season 1:

She looks like Jennifer Jason Leigh. No surprise Stan didn't recognize her.

Still prefer the one I posted, but I like these as well haha

Paige was in disguise in hers, so it was most likely taken after she had become a spy, between season 5 and 6, as it was the pre-photoshop era. But Elizabeth explains to Paige that they have to change their appearance to match their passport photos. If Paige had that photo taken, she would know that already. Could be a small error by the scriptwriters.

Speaking of errors, one small thing that kept bothering me in seasons 5 and 6 especially was the lack of continuity when it comes to time zones. For example, in the finale, the discussion between Arkady and Oleg's father takes place in the afternoon ("Good afternoon Igor Pavlovich"), but the way the episode is edited, it happens at the same time Philip and Elizabeth pick up Paige, so in early evening, DC time. That would correspond to the middle of the night in Moscow. They've had continuity issues like that ever since they sent Nina back to Russia. It's surprising for a show with such attention to details. Anyway, I'll shut up now as I'm turning in one of those annoying superfans who overthink everything.

I really like the idea of Paige more or less becoming Anna Chapman, thus bringing the relationship between The Americans and the story that inspired it full circle.

Good finale... closest thing we could get to a happy ending? I was sure people were going to die, but I'm glad it didn't play out that way. I feel the worst for poor fucking Stan.

If you really think about it then there aren't any good guys in that series because the FBI and the US government as whole does the same shit all the time.

This was one aspect I felt they kind of backed away from. Season one Stan was beating up witnesses all the time. He shot an innocent man in the back (thinking about it, similar to the way the Russians did to Nina). His partner was a womanizing hot head who died because he assaulted a man he didn't know for sleeping with a woman that rejected him. It felt like they tried to establish that there were no purely good guys. I think it was once season two started that they basically stopped with any of this.

The one she had with gorp guy was my favourite, but yeah the blonde one posted off is seriously distracting too.

They all pale in comparison to Ramones Phillip though

I think it's possible the KGB could achieve some fancy image manipulation pre-photoshop. The disguise was just glasses and darker, fluffier hair. With the right pencils and tools I believe you could add that to a photo convincingly.

All I kept thinking was, 'If Elizabeth goes back to the Soviet Union, she's dead.' I assume the political upheaval was right around that time, which might save her from being immediately executed. I mean, she screwed the KGB HARD.

Yeah, that garage scene....whoa.

But they were more a rogue offshoot of the KGB, right? Not the government. Considering they were trying to kill the leader.

Almost to the end of the show.

Fucking finally Stan, but I'm nottttt feeling the
bug in the pile of papers.
After all those seasons they would just do something that dumb? It's unbelievable and clearly rushed to end the show. Turn off.

Edit: IDK yeah it seems like the final three episodes are rushing to finish it up. Why didn't this at least start at the beginning of the season

Paige, honey </3 Why'd she have to get wrapped up in this? Gonna choose to take it as her being braver than her parents for staying tho.

Do I not remember this right or
did someone at one poitn make an offhand comment about Stan's new boo possibly becoming a spy? And then that last shot of her looking at their house
