What idiots.

Consequence of Sound said:
Well, here's a first. After NOFX frontman Fat Mike and guitarist Eric Melvin cracked some unsavory jokes about the 2017 Vegas shooting last weekend, their band has been booted from the very festival they started. The inaugural Camp Punk in Drublic—itself an extension of NOFX's one-day, traveling Punk in Drublic festivals—kicks off tomorrow and will no longer feature either NOFX or Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, the latter being Fat Mike's punk cover band.

NOFX's comments were made public via footage by X1075 DJs Dave Farra and Jason Mahoney. In the footage, Fat Mike cracks, "We played a song about Muslims and we didn't get shot. Hooray," to which Melvin replied, "I guess you only get shot in Vegas if you are in a country band." The 2017 shooting took place at country music festival Route 91 Harvest Festival.

"At least they were country fans and not punk rock fans," adds Mike.

"While NOFX is known for their dark, uncomfortable humor, the festival producers of Camp Punk In Drublic are shocked and disappointed by the band's recent statements about the Route 91 Harvest Festival victims and country music fans," reads a press release regarding Fat Mike's removal. "These statements do not reflect the feelings or views of the Camp Punk In Drublic festival, its staff, and its sponsors." Replacing them will be punk legends the Descendents, who will play on Saturday, and The Vandals, who will contribute to tomorrow night's kickoff party.

I'd much rather see The Descendents anyway.

Terrible sentiment from NOFX. I'm glad they got kicked off.

Any country fan, regardless if you're a fan of Sturgill Simpson or Luke Bryan, deserves to remain protected at their music show.

This isn't even he first time the band has shit on country music or it's fans as a whole, see the song "Leaving Jesusland" where they sing that country musicians wouldn't be welcome in what they consider their perfect society.

It's hard to even put into words how monumentally stupid that was.

Descendents, the Vandals, Rancid, Pennywise, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Bouncing Souls, and Lagwagon.

That's a pretty sweet line up for high school me. Only band I didn't listen to there was Pennywise. NOFX was awesome also back in the day.

I'm just saying, a band that once put out an E.P. with a cover depicting Jim Bakker being pegged, a band that released an album titled "Heavy Petting Zoo" complete with two different covers depicting a man involved in sexual acts with a sheep, a band with one of their more popular songs titled "Murder the Government", and a band where the singer dressed up as a coked out clown and pretended to pour urine on the crowd at one of their shows, making a joke like this really isn't out of their realm.

Old people trying to stay relevant. I'm surprised their fans, as old as they are, all found babysitters. Guess their kids have gone off to college.

User Banned (1 Week): Advocating mocking victims of mass shootings, accumulated infractions.
Fine with me, we as a country aren't doing anything constructive to prevent it from happening over and over again so it deserves mockery taste be damned.

This joke was based on a real, tragic event. They crossed the line.

I'm not offended, just annoyed by something this stupid.

I've seen 100+ punk bands and I've never heard a joke like that.

I've probably heard worse shit from punk bands, for sure. However, those were different times when saying outlandish shit was seen as a form of meta-protest against religious busy-bodies. You could say anything and people could laugh that you didn't mean it. Those days are gone, and probably for the best. Punk of all genres should know how some ill-intentioned groups can use irreverence as an insidious recruitment tool. Nazi imagery was used ironically, then actual Nazi punks started showing up. Fast forward 30+ years and it's how 4chan became a Republican voting bloc.

We didn't plan or intend on saying anything so insensitive. It was off the cuff, but just as hurtful. We won't blame it on drugs or alcohol or Ambien. That's too easy. NOFX said it, and we own it. We made a tasteless joke. But to be clear, NOFX does not condone violence against ANY group of people, period!
That kind of makes it sound like they are deflecting to a current event to make what they did seem not as bad in comparison
