Question for those caught up on the series (season 2 spoiler)

I'm still not clear on why Miller killed that main scientist guy who had just agreed to share all their data. It was obviously a shocking moment which I thought would end up with Miller becoming a double agent or something, but nope, he just kind of says it was the right thing to do. Was it because the scientist was a complete sociopath? Miller does admit that he did it 'because he was making sense'. I don't quite get it.

Please no book spoilers if this gets re-visited later, just talking about what the show has.. shown.
The others were being swayed by the scientist's reasoning for why they did what they did

Thanks for reminding me of the old confession stuff. Yeah, that was decent I think. And I agree about the show working pretty well. I have been binging it for the last week or so.. it's doing many things right as well! I think it's a generally well-paced and plotted show, even though I feel cracks show and characters are (so far) pretty shallow. But the action, the momentum forward is well-paced in general, the music does the job and characters have enough personality to drive it all forward. I like it a lot actually, haha! Some things just bug me, and that might also be because I've been watching A LOT of this show the last week. :)
Yeah, I know what you mean. I feel like the show is a great binge but since the episodes are structured for weekly viewing, sometimes it feels like it doesn't leave much breathing room for side characters to develop with all the twists and turns. Maybe becoming a streaming show will slow the pace a bit but improve in that sense.

I'm fine either way though.

Miller felt like the guy was making 'too much sense' as in the powers that be (Earth, Mars, OPA) would use him and let him continue his unethical experiments in order to weaponize the Protomolecule, leading humanity into a downward spiral of amorality and war.

When he understood that Dresden's siren's song was convincing even him, someone who had seen the horror of Eros first hand, he realized he had to cut it short. His point is reinforced later in the season too.

I always have subs on for belta speak anyways.

Wish we would get the fucks :(

I'm so glad the ala carte purchases are unedited. So many good lines from the latest aired episode - my favorite being "You're not here, which at least explains the stupid fucking hat!"

But even with the subs on, I still can't for the life of me figure out belta-speak sometimes. For example in the latest aired episode what in the world is Naomi saying twice, "To sasa im!"

I can't remember the context, but that would be something like "You know him!".

To = You
sasa = know, know how to do something, know for a fact, etc
im = he/him, she/her, it

So context matters. They also changed the language a little from the books. The Expanse Wiki goes into Belter Creole and has a list of words.

This show.....OMG.

In a way, I am thankful that Syfy canceled it because this wasn't on my radar at all and had no idea it existed prior to all the campaigns to save it and Amazon's acquisition of it.

It's got me by the balls, and I am considering reading the books to supplement what I watch.

For those who've read the books, can you give a rough breakdown of what seasons are covered in which books? I'd really appreciate it.

Season one and about half of season 2 are book 1. Book 2 is the second half of season 2, and the first half of season 3. The rest of season three so far has been book 3.

Right now, show's up to book 3, and the assumption is that season 3 will go through most of the third book

It's pretty serendipitous, I had no idea it existed until the cancellation hoopla. Now I've binged it and it's 1A on my list of 'give me more'.

Oh interesting. I didn't realize it's based on Creole. Your translation makes sense based on the scene.

It is Creole in the sense of the type of language (creole means a mix of previous languages), it is not a nowadays creole language (as you may be thinking about Louisiana Creole).

It was made up for the books/show.

Man, watching this show in glorious high-bit-rate 1080p (or maybe it's even 4k?) in my season pass after watching the live version from SyFy is a total revelation.

I watched one episode of The Expanse through PlayStation Vue, and another episode through YouTube TV on Xbox One, and it looked just Ok in both places. But even worse was that both only stream the show in 2.0 stereo, which just makes the whole show feel "smaller". And it's tinny / compressed 2.0 stereo too.

But watching on Amazon or Microsoft Movies & TV on my Xbox - it just looks so damned good.

A best part is no "FORGET YOU! FORGET YOU!!!" coming from Holden.

Man, I told my roommates about the first airing's FORGET YOU and they cracked the forget up. One of them burst into laughter the morning thereafter just from remembering it. It's destined to become a long-range fandom meme.

i got over my distaste for miller's appearance in this show and finished the first two seasons and gonna be starting the third. it's actually pretty good. i do dislike that they did bobbie dirty though

not showing and seemingly not having any combat against the monster in the first battle, meaning she didn't have a clear recollection of fighting a monster, which lead to her not being able to tell everyone at the UN to go fuck themselves.

Good god, I can not start weird drone guy.

Well the list of suspects for who altered Holden for the broadcast is two people and you have to imagine that the camera operator is a bigger suspect than the reporter. Here's hoping they space him after they get some proof of his actions.

Trying not to read posts here yet, but I have just started Episode One of Season One.

I blame all of you on ERA if this show doesn't live up to the hype.

Got the first 3 books in the mail, I'm not sure when I'll get around to reading them but I will. They have really lovely covers and spines.

Hey, a YouTuber whose work I really enjoy - and who's been a real advocate for The Expanse, since long before the cancellation campaign - has partnered with the show to produce a bunch of lore videos on the various ships--videos that'll include previously-unreleased info.

As spaceship lore vids are kinda his channel's thing, there's already a bunch of examples of what these'll look like. Here's his most recent video, on the Defiant from Star Trek:

And one he made on the Roci a while back. (We might see an updated version of this, now that he has insider info.)

Sorry if this sounds sorta plug-y--I'm unaffiliated with the channel, beyond being a Patreon contributor and talking with Daniel on Twitter every now and then. Just wanted to share something I thought sounded cool.

Okay, that's pretty cool. Loved his video on the Roci, can't wait to see what comes from this.

New episode tonight:
Intransigence

The Rocinante seeks a new gameplan as they attempt to avoid capture. Melba's true motives are revealed. Naomi is torn between identity and ideal. Anna seeks a way to stay aboard the Thomas Prince.
This is episode #9 of 13 from S3.

Amos getting that confession.
Yup, she's pissed.

Woah.

Edit:
"Everything you do is corrupt."
She's not wrong.

"Better stay away from the edges then."
"Good safety tip." LOL (reminded me of Ghostbusters)

I already know what's going to happen in this episode, but it's interesting to see how they are handling it in the show.
