Well I had Eshop credit set aside for Sushi Striker and Mario Tennis. Didn't like the Sushi Striker demo and Mario Tennis' netcode is so bad that I think I'm going to pass. So maybe I'll just keep on playing Hyrule Warriors and get Yoku's Island.

Being able to not only switch between characters, but also direct them to take bases is the reason I enjoyed Fire Emblem Warriors much much more than Hyrule Warriors.

But since they added that feature in the Switch version, I guess they're about on par now.
Not really. In FEW the AI is competent enough to complete some things on their own. In Hyrule Warriors you can send them anywhere, but they hardly accomplish anything. It's just a means for you to move around the battlefield faster, you can't count on the AI for anything.

Every time there's a game on sale, its nothing i actually want. I got nine parchment, the first time it was on sale and haven't purchased anything since. Then again i did buy Fantasy Hero Unsigned Legacy, which was a big mistake.

If you like challenging point and clicks, get Goetia. If you like puzzle games, get Slayaway Camp.

West of Loathing has been really enjoyable so far. I woke up my wife last night laughing out loud at the writing, and I'm the type who never laughs in movies or shows or games; something about this humor just resonates with me and the writing is so cheeky.

It is a bit slow-going, but the RPG elements are tied in uniquely and humorously, kind of like what you've seen in the South Park RPGs. For the price, I think it's one of the safest buys on the eshop right now.

Just Shapes & Beats continues to entertain, surprise, and challenge me. I love it very much. There are so many Super Mario references and obvious inspirations in some of the "boss fights," and some of the songs are such over the top bangers. The constant mash-up of audio visual spectacle and bullet-hell challenges have had me glued to the screen, headphones on, with bated breath.

How is the performance of Night in the Woods? I have it on PC but was thinking playing it in a comfy bed would be a better experience.

Are there more visual novels available for the Switch other than the three otome ones?

Holy crap, ICEY is legit.

Runs very smooth, combat is fun (about musou-level of button mash complexity (Y-Y-X-X, Y-Y-Y-X, X-X-X, etc) and a reaaaally interesting take on the Bastion-style VO narrator and fourth wall breaking (and you can mix-and-match localized text subtitles with EN/JP/Chinese VO). Lots of cool secrets and easter eggs to find.

This is what I want to know too. Seems like nobody played this game. Might just buy and try it out.
Telling me if Membrane is worth it? ;D
Played through the first world (the brain). It's a neat twist on the physics-y puzzle platformer with a bizarre af theme and, well, you know what it looks like. It runs really well and it's fun to play around with the block-gun that shoots/deletes your platform blocks.

Who is this We? We're not some hivemind. I think Sushi Striker is a completely competent puzzle adventure game being sold at a reasonable price. The demo was fine, the game plays great. Everyone can and will have differing opinions. I think being reductive to the point of your comment though, kind of shallow.

I bought it myself yesterday. What could go wrong, I mean it's just ~4€ and I finished "world" 3 iirc. It's fun for what it is but I would describe it more as an experimental physics puzzle game than a pure puzzler. Solving the "puzzles" was never really hard until now and I often felt like I cheesed my way through it. I mean I wondered if the way I finished a stage was the solution I was supposed to come up with. Which isn't a bad thing. And yes, I collected those 2 balls in every level (2 balls... or whatever they are supposed to be, are the collectibles in every level and are sometimes tricky to get).

Not regretting my purchase right now, it's cool for the price they are asking right now.

Why can't I vote for both Mother 3 and Mother 4 ? ;_;

And the second thing is that I'm HIGHLY hyped with 'Shape of the World'.

I have been waiting for this game since 2015, and it was one of the latest things that I was expecting to see released in a Nintendo system.

If the performance is good in the Switch version, I'm sure inn.

What's the gameplay like? I can't understand what you need to do in the game from that trailer.

I think Yoku Island Express might just be the best game I've played this year.

Ah, so there is one?

People seem to be digging it a lot! What do you find so compelling about it?

I like that the characterization and plot aren't really in depth and deep, but I do feel that the play mechanics are very basic, and somewhat non existent. I kind of feel if the lush visuals and excellent music were stripped away, there's not much actual game there. Whereas a game like Tropical Freeze, even if it were stripped down to literal wire meshes or basic blocks, the game play and timing is so finely tuned, that it would still be fun, ala Bit Trip Runner.

Hmm..

I guess its that it has me constantly engaged while I'm playing it and when I'm not, I'm constantly thinking about it. Sure, the visuals and music are both very nice (I actually play it while listening to podcast, so I haven't heard most of the games music ironically enough) but it's the world that you inhabit that makes me so excited and curious to explore. I recently finished God of War and while I enjoyed my time with the game, I found myself, more often than not, having to force myself to remain engaged in what I was doing. Yoku on the other hand is just a chill game and I find hours pass by without me even thinking about it. So yes, while do think Yoku would be a lesser game without its music and visuals, it's mechanics are still so damn good and unique that it'd still be a fantastic game in its own right.

I also love pinball, Platformers and Metroidvania's so there's that as well.

Beat Just Shapes & Beats' story mode just now and that was one wild ride, such a great game. My only complaints are that 1) Some songs, especially boss ones don't telegraph their obstacles correctly and feel like there's too much trial and error, and it's especially annoying with bosses due to the lack of checkpoints 2) It's too hard to keep track of how much HP I have left... Of course none of these will be an issue if you play co-op or actually turn down the difficulty when needed, unlike my stupid stubborn self.

Tried a handful of online matches and that was so much fun! I like it when you can barely communicate with other players in online games and this one produces some really hilarious situations. I had such a blast that I played 7 challenges in a row (21 songs).
Make sure to try to 100% Yoku's Island Express, if you loved the game. There has been so many great things I discovered after I beat it, that I'm glad I experienced.
I really wanted to try going for the 100% right away, but after reading some comments about how it takes apparently 20+ hours to achieve... I dunno, I think I'll tackle that later. I definitely loved my time with the game, but I have so much stuff in my hands and so little time that I find it hard to justify sticking with Yoku for that much longer :(

I bought Defoliation on release and unfortunately cannot recommend it at all, even to genre fans. The biggest negative is the very poor translation and writing, which comes off as very mechanical/robotic but complete (incomplete?) with spelling and grammatical errors.

The game is broken up in rooms and each room is blocked with a door featuring a combination lock and bolts of some kind, in which you discover within other puzzles that lead to solving a numerical code. In progressing, it is very much like a hidden object game but a bad one mainly due to the nature of the puzzles, they are completely random and lack context as so far, everything is...just because. This is all made worse as it comes off as very unnatural, when inspecting random objects, for example the very first puzzle, without doing anything else one of the characters mentions that the objects can be rearranged, nice hint but I just clicked on some shoes.

Even so, I don't mind solving the puzzles within the game, i just wish it was in proper English and both character and object interactions were handled much better. As is, it's an awkward experience.

Did anyone pick up Super Burger Time? I love Burger Time but never played this sequel, which seems pretty obscure. It looks good.

Yoku is not a level-based platformer. It's a (fairly) open world non-linear metroidvaina game played in a single world. The pinball sections are there as world design and for route choices, not as a core mechanic. The game doesn't rely on good pinball skills to complete the game. Yoku has lots of puzzle solving (specially if you try for 100%), while Tropical Freeze only has a few hidden passages.

IMO, it would even be better to compare it to BotW than to Tropical Freeze, as I feel it shares more game mechanics with BotW (such as: beat the bosses in any order, the costume mechanics, how to reach point B from point A). It also have some side quests that connects with many parts/mechanics of the game (On an abstract level, I see lots of similarities with the Rito Kass quest chain in BotW and the Gorilla quest in Yoku, even if it's not to the same degree. Both these quest chains connects to many different parts and aspects of their respective game.)

I started it yesterday, as my next game after Yoku. Great fun so far. That's the kind of RPG I like!

I really love Yoku but for me this ended up being my one disappointment. The game is really fun, it's just not hard, though. There's no real challenge to it. It would be nice if falling into the thorns incurred more of a penalty than just losing a couple fruit, which is a laughably small amount.

I've been thinking about it and I would have either made the fruit penalty more severe or maybe even used a check point system where you can lose up to 3 balls, just like a real pinball game, before having to start over from the checkpoint and losing your progress. Naturally, extra balls would be obtainable.

I would also have built more "hurry ups" and required combo-shots into the design of a lot of areas.

It's a great game, very chill, but it leaves me a bit wanting as a seasoned pinball player.

My dream game is the pinball version of Nex Machina, voxels and all.

Since you discuss the fruits/thorns in this way, I guess you haven't found out the reasons for the thorns? IMO, the fruit loss twist has much more "purpose" in Yoku than in a score-based pinball game.

It's a great game, very chill, but it leaves me a bit wanting as a seasoned pinball player.

I agree, it's not a game primarily aimed towards pinball players.

Joe Dever's Lone Wolf, while Western, is very much a visual novel.

I'll quote myself from last month's thread:
Joe Dever's Lone Wolf is a new adaptation of a classic game book series from the 80s.

maxresdefault.jpg

You remember Choose Your Own Adventure books? Well, they were kind of like that but with a big injection of Dungeons & Dragons. Basically, it's single-player D&D with a specific character and the book is the dungeon master.

lw20-1.gif

Flash forward to a few years ago and Joe Dever's Lone Wolf is reborn as a modern adventure RPG on mobile and sold in chapters.

The Switch version is the entire game for $15 ($8 on Mexican eShop), which presents about 15 hours of playtime in a single playthrough but provides lots of replay incentive thanks to many branching story paths based on your decisions, your character building and the difficulty.

Joe-Devers-da-Book..jpg

The game has all new illustrations through-out that have been given the motion comic treatment. Combat sequences are fully in 3D. It features quality writing, a beautiful musical score, gorgeous UI/presentation, deep character building and interesting lore.

joe-devers-lone-wolf-console-edition-screenshot-03-ps4-us-17march16

Combat consists of active-time battle, with multiple types of actions, disciplines, etc. You'll use a combination of buttons and radial wheel to access your options and occasionally perform brief quicktime events to land criticals, special moves or dodge attacks.

B1UOdUaeUZS.png

lone-wolf-pic-1.jpg

There's also several mini games, such as lock picking, to shake things up between reading and making tough choices.

900x.jpg

image

This is an oldschool style of RPG where stats matter outside of combat as well as during. Your build will have an effect on the choices you make, what choices are available to you and the success of your actions.

Lone_Wolf_IndieCade_screen_2.png

(yes, you can change the font)

And the music really is quite excellent!

If you want a chill but challenging game with old school feel that harkens back to a different era then I can't recommend this game enough. This is quality software and rather unlike anything else out there.

Just Shapes and Beats is quite an experience. I knew from the gameplay that I would like it, but each song turns into this trance of dodging and head bopping that I haven't experienced in a long time.

If anyone remembers Bit Pilot on iOS, this game is that on steroids...

Can someone please, PLEASE, PLEASE!! tell me how to shut off gyro aiming in Immortal Redneck? I can't find the setting anywhere.

I JUST dealt with the utter stupidity of the UI that is Darkest Dungeon. I don't want to deal with yet another game I can't play.
