At this point length and story are my biggest concerns. If they're good, I'll keep my copy on Monday rather than return it.

Right there with you.
I'm expecting it to be short, considering its price is $50 on Steam (rather than $60) prior to the pre-order discount.

15 hours of main quest, up to 30 hours if you do side quests, investigation, collectibles. And the game features 4 endings depending on your choices ("the ending you deserve", according to the game director). Plus the way NPCs are interconnected makes that each playthrough can be somehow unique in a way (killing x instead of y to see how the other will react, the way you'll lose a district, ...).

Interesting, but OT is kinda lacking info what kind of game this is. Is it 3rd person action slasher? Is it RPG? Is it kind of narrative style game? Detective?

It's a "Narrative Action-RPG". It features A LOT of dialogues and choices. Also a lot of investigations.

Anyone got Steam key from cdkeys?
They told me like... 12h ago that they got the keys and that they will start sending them soon. I pre-ordered in March, still no key.

Day 1 here and really excited for it, especially since thus is my next game since God of War.

Been on a media blackout for the most part besides one of the first trailers, Life is Strange already sold me. Expecting excellent writing and storytelling.

Same, I'll hold of for some user impressions though, press reviews are mostly useless anyway when it comes to AA RPG's. #justice4elex

Any known XBX enhancements? 4K? HDR? FPS?

Higher resolution definitely, the AA is perfect, only could be because of super sampling.
HDR, not that I know, no.
FPS, like I said before:

But, I play it on the X and the performance is really janky, the performance is dropping left and right, right from the start and you can clearly see that this is not an AAA game by any means. But it's also nothing that really bothers me so far, it's not dropping to 20 fps for a long time or any like that, it's more like when you move and turn the camera fast it drops a bit for a second or 2 and you can just feel that. My best comparison would be that graphically and technically, it reminds me so much on the first The Evil Within. Specially graphically.

Hunters and other vampires aren't your victims

I didn't understand this criticism in the previews. Can't speak about the game itself that much due to embargo but the game doesn't tell you that the NPCs "matter" in that sense. In fact, the games keeps telling / reminding you to feed on citizens to grow stronger, that you are no longer a human but a monster and humans are now your preys, ... You can care about them by making side quests for them, healing them, ... but I'd say it's more to maintain a good health statut on the district AND to have even more XP when feeding on them.

It's not really dissonant at all. Enemy vampires and hunters are hostile and will attack you on sight. In most cases, you kill them as a matter of self-defense. They don't qualify as "victims" by any definition of the word.
Thanks. I guess it just seems simplistic to me--the death of a civilian can change the entire city, but killing scores of hunters and stuff as part of routine combat is nothing. It undercuts the whole point of the thirst mechanic.

I'm concerned it's going to be a Watch Dogs 2 (or similar) situation where the game would make more sense without such gamey combat. As in, fighting for "good" or just being conflicted about killing on one hand, and having a body count in the hundreds by the time the credits roll on the other.

I do seem to be in the minority on this position so perhaps it just wasn't a concern when making the game.

Been playing this a lot so far this weekend and plan to sink most of today into it also. Review code is still yet to arrive but my physical copy turned up early.

Runs and looks great on the X. Fantastic moody atmosphere. Really enjoying it so far.

No. The only reason to feast is because you need xp

That's a huge relief. Thank you.

And it's a great decision in my opinion. With that you don't have the constant feeling you have a timer behind the game and the pressure to drink just because of constant thirst and therefore a plain in-game mechanic, you only have the dilemma if you drink something to make the game a little bit easier, like, fuck them, it makes me stronger, I don't care, or if you try to keep yourself together, for humanity and try to struggle through all the obstacles because it's the right thing to do.

What a great Idea.

Can someone tell me what the second option in the language + subtitle option is supposed to do?
It's called "Lautsprecher" in German, which means "Speaker" and I can put it on or off. Is that just a bad translation? What the heck is that for?

Great job on the OT More_Badass. Thanks.
Preordered, preloaded and ready to go. I'm actually excited about this game. Everything I've seen points to fresh, interesting, different and fun.

That is if you want to display the speaker's name next to their associated subtitles IIRC. I don't remember if it's on by default tho.

the interconnections between the characters in this game are truly impressive, i think they achieved what they wanted to do: you feel that you know these persons and their stories and motivations and it is some kind of hard deal to just kill them off for blood. the decisions have weight through this system and they aren´t just nameless people where you don´t give a damn about, no, you really struggle to find a victim for your bloodlust.

i don´t know how many chapters are in this game, i must have played around 6-7hours and i am in the third chapter and realized that i can go back to the first area to find more people, so if you take your time with the game it progresses rather slowly. it is absolutely no game to rush through because there is much information input to digest which demands attention, otherwise you will miss clues about other characters.

Just dropping in again to say the game is great. If you are even remotely a fan of Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines this game is for you. It's going to be a bit of a cult classic imo.

I have yet to complete the game, but the way the characters all exist in a world that you can manipulate however you like with the vampire role play, and on top of a great atmosphere, it's a real treat.

It's like someone tossed that movie From Hell and Bloodlines into a blender.

I'm glad we use the perfect OT title. I'll be getting this for sure, but I'm not sure I'll be there day 1. I'm still kinda busy with God of War and stuff.

What a great Idea.

The idea for a timer for blood sounds amazing. The idea of a game like that as an allegory for addiction and the damage it does to the people and world around the addict sounds super interesting, and imo a much more interesting moral quandary than a simple binary choice between evil and good. How many people do you kill to satiate the urge? How long and how miserable do you make yourself before giving in to the inevitable? Do you simply choose to fade away from the earth or do you choose to extend your addiction fueled undead time on the earth by sapping the same life from an innocent that was stolen from you, and thus inflicting the same horror on them? Does making such a choice make you less than human? Are you still even human? I'd buy the fuck out of that game!

...but I'm also a huge dead rising fan, so yeah >.>

I really like all the gameplay systems they are showing. I prefer pure action games as I've left my RPG days behind me but I'm probably gonna dive in.

I wonder if someone can tell me if this game have difficulty settings or not.

No, you adjust the difficulty by feeding on citizens, which makes the game easier (the XP on each citizen varies and it can go up if you unlock all their secrets, plus if they're sick you loose a percentage of XP but you can craft medicines to help them recover).

...yo wat

You craft medicines to cure people only to turn around and eat them? That's downright diabolical XD

Had the game since yesterday morning so I managed to play quite a bit, I think at least 6-7, didn't plan on playing that much but the game really sucked me in [pun not intended lol].

Some bulletpoints:

the good:

- atmosphere is great
- graphically it looks pretty nice on Xbox One X and goes along very nicely with aforementioned atmosphere
- story so far seems very interesting
- there are no faceless citizens in the game, you can talk to everybody, learn a lot about them and most of them are quite interesting, especially when you discover some darker secrets
- so far side-quests seem interesting and varied
- combat system can be described as clunky souls, not quite the same level of polish, but overall it's good
- music is good, a mix between very energetic display of string instruments and some more tranquil tones
- hint system [you can use what you've learned about somebody in a conversation] is pretty engaging, makes you really want to go out of your way and learn secrets about other people to do the whole "a-ha! gotcha!"

the bad:

- voice acting is spotty, sometimes it's very well done, but sometimes it's off a bit
- conversation flow, when you ask about something and then want to go back to the main topic the game doesn't do a very good job of connecting the dots and you just carry on as if there was no filler in between, often making you a bit confused, this also contributes to spotty voice acting, especially from our main character since it really clashes with common sense sometimes
- when you want to skip a line during dialogue it unforunately skips entire sequence of what that character wanted to say, effectively making that option useless, at least for me
- level gating, it's not as bad as in Assassin's Cred Origins for example, since if you're careful you can kill enemy that is 10 levels higher than you, but it's present and it can be annoying at times when some puny human knocks you out in 2 hits
- sprinting animation, straight up ME: Andromeda flashbacks, it gets infinitely more bearable once you get your coat and it covers your legs, but without it it looks like you just dropped a dookie and run for the bathroom

the ugly:

- sometimes the game glitches out and all conversations are muted and you can't push any quest forward because the game doesn't register the dialogue at all, the only remedy for that is restaring the game, happened to me 3 times already so it's a recurring problem

pet peeve:

- there is some blood splatter on the ground when you hit enemies but not on walls and your weapon doesn't get bloody as well as your face when you have a drink from an enemy, such a waste in a vampire game :(

technical aspects:

- there is some micro-stutter on Xbox one X, though it's VERY rare and I think it happens when you teleport over big distances and engine has to catch up
- I've had maybe 4-5 slight dips below 30 fps, very brief and overall unsignificant, other than that the game runs pretty smoothly and without hitches
- the game definitely isn't 4k, not even close but at least the picture is free of any jagged edges so that's a plus
- no hdr

Overall I really like the game and recommend you pick it up if you're interested in the setting.

I wonder if someone can tell me if this game have difficulty settings or not.

it doesn't, difficulty is tied to your morality, if you're a good person you're gonna have it tougher since you won't be able to power-up fast, if you wanna have all you can eat buffet, it's gonna get easier, though more chaotic on the streets which means more fighting.

Only thing I'm not liking so far is the load times when you enter some places.

Had a couple of bits where I was just walking around the world and the game stopped dead to load as well.

I'm defo gonna chime in and say I predict some reviewers bombing the game for this. Prey got crapped on by more than a few places due to actually having the audacity to have choices actually have some kind of consequences in the game world. Same with Dishonored as well, albiet not to the same extent.

Oh yeah, definitely, I expect the game to have very mediocre reviews, but for me it's already one of the best games I've played this year.

I imagine some people like Karak are gonna review it fairly well, but more mainstream peeps are gonna slap the mediocre sticker on it and move on.

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines appears to be on a 5 dollar sale on Steam, presumably timed because of this game. Worth picking up to play if you haven't yet in the meantime.

They told me like... 12h ago that they got the keys and that they will start sending them soon. I pre-ordered in March, still no key.

Check your original order confirmation e-mail. The link in there should give you a key. I know mine did.

Saw that Steam is $45 and Xbox is $60. Makes that decision pretty simple.

Steam version is $38 at GMG and $34 at CDKeys.

Slim PS4.

Had it happen when I was coming back to the hospital from the cemetery in the upper right-hand side. Running there and as I got closer it stopped and said loading in the bottom right.

Then did it again in the same places when I was coming back from a side quest.
