Huh? Horizon is basically the poster child for how to do a female protagonist and OP probably skipped on it otherwise you wouldn't have made this thread in the first place
Reading is hard lol.
But OP, why does it need to only female protagonist? Male/female choice is much better than no choice at all. That's why I love Bethesda and Bioware games. I'd love to see such games though.
You don't think it's odd for one sex to 100% dominate leading roles in modern AAA open world games? That doesn't seem like a curious imbalance to you given that half the human population is women and there are millions of female gamers?Ok......so....what's wrong with that? I mean do we really need it?
Well, I think the real question is why do so many games have to have lead characters who occupy a minuscule slice of the whole range of human diversity. Doesn't it make a lot of sense to question the assumption that male, or more accurately straight white male, equals the normal default go-to option? Why should this be so if gamers can be a lot of things other than straight or white or male?Reaching
Edit:
I guess i should elaborate. Sorry. Your specific parameters disqualify certain games. And i cant understand why you'd narrow your filter so thin. Especially games that give you the choice of both. Why does it have to be female only, if the end goal, for you to have the ability to play as a female, is achieved?
Yeah those are in hot demand, and definitely just as absurd and ridiculous as wanting to see more women in traditionally male roles! There is no female led hot dog stand simulator set at a 1992 funny car race.
We need to ask why.
There really aren't that many games that fit the description in the first place, though we do have some examples (even if OP dismisses them). You don't think it's odd for one sex to 100% dominate leading roles in modern AAA open world games? That doesn't seem like a curious imbalance to you given that half the human population is women and there are millions of female gamers?
So I was having a discussion in a Discord server about tropes and cliches in fantasy settings and it eventually led to the kinds of fixed protagonists that tend to be the "hero" of fantasy RPGs. It then occurred to me there is still no AAA modern open world game with only a female protagonist.
Now, I know exactly what you're thinking (probably), that there're many AAA modern open world games that let you play as a female, right? No, that's not what I mean; I mean there is still no AAA modern open world game with ONLY a female protagonist. All games have either the choice between m/f and/or you play as a guy most of it then a woman thereafter. What I'm saying is there is still the male being either the support or role model that you still have to play as. Also by modern I mean in terms of setting as in the modern times.
There's no (just a wild random example) kind of game like Watch_Dogs or... I dunno, GTA or Sleeping Dogs game where a woman is on the front cover by herself and is the sole protagonist you only play as. There's no Tommy Vercetti or Carl Johnson or whatever of the female kind in games still. Mirror's Edge you say? That's first-person only and I wouldn't say it's true open world since you're mainly on rooftops and such.
Is this a potential gap in the market to exploit for marketing bragging?
Wow what a movie that was. I was mentally exhausted after watching it. I needed some Nintendo games after that.I would not be surprised if the next GTA has a main female character that is just as important as the male character .
I would like a character like this in the next GTA
charlize theron in the movie "monster"
