'Better Call Saul' Season 4 & 'Lodge 49' Gets AMC Premiere Dates
AMC has its summer premiere dates for Season 4 of Better Call Saul and its new series Lodge 49. The cable net today set a 9 PM August 6 premiere date for its Emmy-nominated Breaking Bad spinoff, to be followed at 10 PM by the launch of its lighthearted "modern fable" starring Wyatt Russell and Brent Jennings.
Here's the S4 logline for Better Call Saul, starring Bob Odenkirk as the sleazebag lawyer who knows more than people think: Chuck's death catalyzes Jimmy McGill's (Odenkirk) transformation into Saul Goodman. In the wake of his brother's loss, Jimmy takes steps into the criminal world that will put his future as a lawyer – and his relationship with Kim (Rhea Seehorn) – in jeopardy. Chuck's (Michael McKean) death deeply affects former colleagues Howard (Patrick Fabian) and Kim as well, putting the two of them once again on opposite sides of a battle sparked by the Brothers McGill. Meanwhile, Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) takes a more active role as Madrigal Electromotive's newest (and most thorough) security consultant. It's a volatile time to be in the employ of Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito.) as Hector's (Mark Margolis) collapse sends shock waves throughout the Albuquerque underworld and throws the cartel into chaos — tearing apart both Gus and Nacho's (Michael Mando) well-laid plans. While Gus changes course, Nacho finds himself in the crosshairs of deadly forces.

So this is the season when everything finally goes to hell? It's been a slow burn for me so far with moments of greatness sprinkled in here and there... still waiting for it to reach Breaking Bad levels of greatness.

I figured the end of S3 was supposed to leave us wondering if Chuck was really going to die or not.

Guess not!

I mean, a pretty major theme of both this and Breaking Bad is that you can't pinpoint a specific point where the main character becomes bad. I expect things to go pretty downhill this season, but not fully downhill since IIRC they're hoping to do 2 more seasons after this.

Took long enough

are we confirmed to have a season 5 as well?

Also I really think the last season is going to delve into Post-Breaking Bad stuff

I mean, sure, you don't see a body or anything, but they've been adamant that they're not out to trick the viewers or anything. The creators and cast confirmed he was dead even though the scene wasn't definitive (though pretty damn close.) At least they've mentioned that they'll likely use him in flashbacks in the future if the opportunity arises.

Ok! I just caught up on all 3 seasons earlier in the year and I haven't really kept up with any external discussion. But good to know.

There's no reason why you would've seen that stuff - just wanted to give you a quick summary of what's been said about it. :)

Seasons 1 and 2 of BCS premiered in February and the seasons wrapped in April of their respective years. Season 3 premiered in April 2017 and wrapped in June 2017. So for season 4 to premiere in August... Well, if it feels much longer than usual, that's why...

I've been dreading this season a lot.

Season 3 (Chuck's death aside) would've felt like an ending to any other series. It almost feels like a happy ending for Jimmy and Kim.

... then you remember that this series is still living in the shadow of Breaking Bad and this is likely going to be the turning point where Jimmy falls to the dark side.

I have faith the writers won't just kill her off. It'd be more crushing to have Kim cut Jimmy/Saul out of her life entirely out of sheer contempt, possibly while even still living in the same city.

There's so many routes they could go with here. Her past is so purposely vague that I kinda think she maybe did some shady stuff before meeting Jimmy

Is it just me or is the production time between seasons on this show unusually long?

I normally don't forget large chunks of plot between Show seasons but with this one it feels like between the 2nd and 3rd and the 3rd and the 4th the time frame has been so long that I need to revisit.

Wait, what the fuck? chuck died at the end of season 3? That wasn't explicitly explained.

Yes, it was heavily implied and as far as I know confirmed by the actor himself.

They were renewed really late last year when the Sony shakeup was going on, plus Gilligan has another project he's working on in the interim. It seems like the writing room got a much later start than usual when they were putting together S4.

It's available in the US.

It's also one of the best-looking 4K shows on Netflix, even without HDR. They love their wide static tableau shots where you can drink in all the detail.

Good, enough time to do another rewatch of the show so far.

Based Netflix giving the same day streaming goods.
