Always figured it was just in development hell, not canceled. Good to get clarification. Hope it turns out great.

It's weird how much of a drop this game had from being a headlining Xbox One X launch title to this extremely long delay with very little details as to what caused it. It must have been a big issue for that to happen.

Well duh!! MS couldn't afford cancelling CD3.

Not sure who really believed this being a possibility.

Just another example of MS's inability to manage effectively on the game software side. While other companies roll out Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Breath of the Wild, and Mario Odessey... MS sends Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 out to die. Hopefully Forza Horizon and Ori can redeem another terrible year.....

I imagine the game-play reveal(s) that failed to spark any type of hype at all had them reconsider releasing it and deciding to stick it back in the oven for a while? That's probably not how things work, though.

I understood you all said the MP is not the problem. But, correct me if I am wrong, that the 2015 showing is the only time they showed MP and it is a tech demo. How do we know the MP is working perfectly, is there a behind scene demo/showing recently?

I don't believe we've seen the MP since then, you are correct. The thing about the SP being responsible for the delay is based on rumours and I agree that it's very suspect that they've not shown anything of the multiplayer in years now. Especially as the tech was already looking amazing back then.

MS can't afford to cancel this game.
It is literally the only exclusive game that isn't Halo/Forza for the rest of 2018 and 2019 left on the table for XB fans.
2 years of barely any exclusives would make a lot of fans question if they are going to risk another generation of repeated dry seasons for their next purphase.
It has happened 3 times in a row now, XB, 360, XB1.

Crackdown only ever had one concrete release date, and that was November 7, 2017.

You would expect a game to be near completion when developers release such specific information, but who knows what is going on with this game. There is something terribly wrong happening here.

Dead Island 2 has been in development since 2012, was revealed at E3 2014 at Sony's conference, is being made by Sumo just like Crackdown 3, and has no release date, but you don't see people losing their minds over it.

It's not possible to preorder first party PS4 games on Amazon. Maybe they don't want to give their customers that preorder money off?

One has Microsoft's funding behind it with a huge promise of technological innovation...the other is Dead Island 2.

When they were going on at E3 about the stuff you can do offline, no internet connection required etc it was obvious the game had undergone fundamental changes a couple times. Hopefully it ends up for the better.

Yeah MS really can't afford to cancel CD3 or have it receive another average score. These delays better be worth it or the post mortem will indeed be an interesting read.

Are they just waiting until they can put a Halo 6 beta on the disk or what?

Ha, that's actually a sound strategy!

so, can this be considered as MS "The Last Guardian"? every time news pop up about this game is usually not good news.

I think it's about saving face and having something. Anything. There's zero chance they'd ever make money on this game at this point.

That game has been in development hell for far too long. It cannot, not release or confidence in MS's ability to put out 1st party titles will be trampled even further.

Is that what pathetic fanboys are reduced to these days? "My console's exclusives are watched more than yours, so mine is better"

Fucking pathetic in every sense of the word. If you're going to use twitch views as a metric, bad news, kid, most of your precious exclusives are now "dead".

Seriously. After the shit I've read on era today - this thread, the Xbox Ambassador thread - I'm disgusted to share this platform with some of the man-babys that hold a raging hard on for their favourite company.

Get.
A.
Fucking.

If this game can be delayed into oblivion why the hell was MS pissed enough to cancel Fable Legends outright when it would've had a much bigger audience/recognition. Ugh.

There is no way Fable would've had a much bigger audience. Crackdown is far more mainstream for so many reasons.

No. As said many times now. The SP is.
How the hell is Crackdiwn style SP taking this long?

Any links as I'm curious how that side could be such a blocker.

EDIT
Searching a bit myself I see MS noting it was announced way too early so I guess part of the issue is we've known about it earlier than normal making the wait abnormally long.

Seems MP is ready but they're now on SP? Team size challenges? Could they only work on one mode at a time?

Should Sony have cancelled The Last Guardian or cancel Dreams? Crackdown 3 was pretty rough the last time I saw it so I suggest they keep working on it. Getting the game to work as planned on the cloud is also something that many of us want to see on that level.

?
Isnt the MP more technically demanding than the Sp since in MP every building is supposedly completely destructible?
Yes, I guess.

The MP has rumoured to have been finished for quite some time and is working well. The hold up is the single player. I don't see how your post changes anything.

Not sure if it related but I remember a lot of talk/online posts after E3 2017 mentioning the single player looking bad graphically and then a little later a delay was announced with mentions of visual polish. Maybe they're taking extra time to make it look really good

I don't think MS can afford another PR disaster after Phantom Dust, Fable, and now Scalebound were also canned but at the same time I also can't see this game being released at all if it doesn't make it this year. Like oppritunity cost can only go so far before you truly start to question the point of all of this.

Maybe splitting the SP and MP would be a good idea then so the SP could release on current-gen in 2019 and the MP could have a cross-gen release in 2020 where the next-gen version could take advantage of far more powerful processors.
Thing is, the issue of Crackdown 3 causing it delay seems is SP mode, not MP mode.

whats so demanding of the single player that it more than 4 years after announcement for the game to release is what Im getting at.
