Started with the Portal-themed tutorial. If anything it really irked me how slow Valve is being with making tentpole VR games. It had zero rough edges. It was just a 5 min tutorial but it was flawless. Just imagine what a whole game made by a properly-funded VR first party would be like.

Have you played The Lab? (I'm assuming by "five minute tutorial" you mean the thing SteamVR launches you into after Room Setup, which is not the same thing!)

Edit: Oh, you were at an arcade... well, Valve has another game which is also super duper polished. It's still basically a collection of tech demos, but much more meaty. I've gotten a lot of mileage out of a couple of the minigames...

Finished Twisted Arrow,

despite the "no checkpoint" situation I think it is still an easy recommendation, it was a fun little campaign. Took me about 3 hours and I had to replay 2 missions two to three times. I know it's not hitting the magic 6-8 hour campaign mark... but that mark has lost it's meaning to me a while ago tbh.

---

Another observation regarding the Vive Pro sound/headphone issue I made on accident today:

When I put on the headset and have sound, I usually don't go into the advanced settings and look what the sound output is set to. I only ever did that when I had no sound at all, which happened now and then and I always assumed that was a Windows soundmanaging fuck up. However, not checking the output = Mistake!

There are two setting that deliver sound to the headset, one is called something like "Vive C (nividea something something" and the other one is the "Vive Multimedia Output". If you have a Vive Pro, you don't want the Vive C setting, you do want the Multimedia setting! There was a big difference in quality on my system and the bass enhancements only work in that setting too!

I was wondering why the audio was so inconsistant over the last couple of days and to add something specific to that, lot's of Audioshield songs were slightly out of sync and I thought that was maybe a youtube thing but some songs were not out of sync. After changing to the multimedia device, the songs are in sync again.

This is just an observation, not a full test of changing settings back and forth! So this could be my machiene only and is different for other people!

I now actually believe that the entire Vive Pro sound issue that is reported by several people on the internet is some form of audio management problem, if it stays like this on my end then I'm more than happy with the sound (if it changes tomorrow despite the settings being as I explained here, well... we'll see)

I've never really been that into open world games so I never played more than 30 minutes of Skyrim from it's release till yesterday. After I spent five hours installing a boat load of mods to make it look palatable in VR and wow. I spent 9 hours playing Skyrim in VR yesterday.

The only thing I couldn't get working was something on a female bandit model (big red exclamation point on her character model) and trees. My trees still look like total in game garbage. Oh and my business signs don't blow in the wind.

Other than that tons of fun

Is there any graphically good current VR games out there now? I know I am repeating myself but The Assembly was great in VR and looked good. Just played a bit of Arizona Sunshine and it still doesnt look that good.

Raw Data?
I mean it has been out for a relatively long time by now but its still up there IMHO.

The Talos Principle also ranks high in a combination of asset quality and rendering quality you can achieve at a given performance level.

In terms of must haves that also look good I'd recommend to check out the following (in no particular order):
Robo Recall, Skyrim VR (with graphics mods), Lone Echo, Project Cars 2, Elite Dangerous.

Not sure but i doubt so. They said the VR will emcompasses the whole entire game, not some limited content

Yeah. I tried playing the old demo (after seeing the Youtube video and comments). No native support. That one dude teases the Trinnus video, but leaves absolutely zero instructions on how to do it. Game runs great, though, and I'm sure it would be amazing with actual VR support.

Downward Spiral: Horus Station
https://store.steampowered.com/app/690620/Downward_Spiral_Horus_Station/
Comes out tomorrow.

Has some reviews coming in.

https://www.vrfocus.com/2018/05/review-downward-spiral-horus-station/
4/5
Downward Spiral: Horus Station does exactly what it needed to, presenting a far grander and more engaging instalment to the VR series. It's not perfect, with some annoying glitches that really do need to be ironed out. However, the core experience is thoroughly enjoyable and more importantly massive. With eight acts to play through, and each one taking around an hour – depending on how long you search for collectables – there's a solid amount of content to get engrossed in. For players that enjoy floating around in space, Downward Spiral: Horus Station is a great all-rounder.

It's a testament to the intrigue that 3rd Eye drums up that I never found myself getting bored, though. Every new area I entered felt like a discovery worthy of inspection, be it wondering how the poor soul floating in the middle of the room met his end, or catching a rare glimpse of the ominous orange planet that Horus Station orbits around. I was constantly curious as to what I'd find behind each and every one of the facility's enormous doors, as if the answers left by the harrowing pile of corpses I was wading through were always right around the corner. They're often not; this is a story that will only stretch as far as your imagination lets it, but the powerful atmosphere drags you through all the same.

There are issues with each of Downward Spiral: Horus Station's core elements, but the game's hugely compelling atmosphere, ever-evolving arsenal and first-rate immersion is more than enough to see you through to the end. From the chilling exploration to the nimble combat, this is an adventure that keeps its hooks in you and occasionally even pulls off that rarest of sensations: to make you forget where you really are in the world. 3rd Eye Studios has crafted a space odyssey to call its own, and it makes for one of 2018's best VR games yet.

5.5/10
'Downward Spiral: Horus Station' presents a visually rich world in this shooter-meets-adventure game hybrid, but crucially fumbles both story and gunplay elements to a very middling overall effect. While gunplay is optional, I hasten to think that based on storytelling alone, that 'Downward Spiral' just doesn't have the guts to be anything but a very beautiful, but unfortunately boring exercise in opening doors, pushing buttons, and retrieving keycards.

People seem to be happy with the overall look of the game, so I am quite happy. :D

I hope you have fun with it. :D

Play it with a friend in coop if you have a chance. Makes for a more memorable experience. But all the same, excited to hear you guys thoughts if you decide to play the game.

Watching E3 live in VRChat is now a possibility! Before it was looking like we'd need to use BigScreen but Phaxenor got info (from the devs?) on how to get streams working in VRChat. This means: 1. Bigger Rooms with 30 to maaaybe 60 people (don't know if the video can handle it but we will see). 2. People out of VR can participate. 3. You can be anime.

I think it'll be setup for all the main conferences. Lakuza and I will be there for SquareEnix conference for sure.

Right now reservations are being made in a Discord server, but I don't have permission to give the link just yet. Have to see how many spots are open. The thing is that it may have to be a private world to spin it up online quickly with the stream links. Public worlds have to go through a process before they are online.

Just checked Sega Collection's VR implementation and it's about as expected- VR lobby/room with the actual game itself being a big flat screen hanging in black, no 3D effects at all. Ah well, *uninstall*.

With all due respect to the devs, these don't sound like issues they're going to solve within the next 1-2 weeks.

I'm expecting the game to release in a couple months. If I'm wrong, great. I know the devs know more than I do—but they also don't have a good track record in this area.

I've been looking forward to this game for such a long time. After I purchased my Vive, it was the one game that really stayed with me and made me a true believer.

My gut tells me that they are a very small team struggling to get over the finish line, which is so often the case. They can't just throw money at the problem. I wonder if aligning with a publisher might have been a better fit to get development accelerated. This game has lost so much of it's energy, I do wonder if many of its fans have moved on.

Having said that review code was put out there, so hopefully the bugs and optimization issues can be ironed out.

I really want to play this game.

Yes! The demo still gives me the best sense of presence I've ever felt, and it has the only implementation of artificial locomotion that I don't actively dislike.

I don't think they need to be too worried about the audience moving on—if you own a Vive, you're likely enough of an enthusiast to recognize this title. I'd hope so, at least.

I don't mind waiting, as long as the game actually comes out. For a while, it really felt to me like vaporware.

It's funny, the optimization issues they describe (up to and including getting kicked you out of the SteamVR compositor) are things that have happened to me in tons of released titles. And I have a very strong machine! It really does feel like this dev team is holding itself to higher standard, and I really appreciate that.

Stifled (Horror game with optional VR) 6 months exclusivity deal with Sony expires and the PC release is coming soon.

Huh, I remember that concept/artstyle... I thought it got canncelled or something because it just vanished, didn't know it was one of those exclusivity deal games. I like games that try something different (e.g. Scanner Sombre) and if the price istn't too high (below 20 bucks) I'm interested.

Anybody know what the reception of the game is on PSVR?

No consistent VR support they said...
I can't even keep up with the amount of VR games that seem to be coming out on the daily as a Vive & PSVR user. Pretty damn fantastic for the current baby-step generation. :)

In Death is pretty damn fun...everyone should try it out (free weekend Oculus). They definitely got the graphics right...as in they don't use a lot of black color so there's very little god rays and everything looks really sharp. The bow mechanics are great as well...I just don't know if I want to shell out the cash for it. Co-op would probably make it an insta buy.

Ooh, Overload looks good as well.

Yeah, I downloaded it today. Probably won't get to try it out until Saturday, but I'm looking forward to it.

What a roller coaster. I was thinking it looked like another shooter I just saw recently, then realized it's the same devs.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/668580/Atomic_Heart/

Odd they're not calling out the connection? Guessing they don't want to muddy the SEO/branding since this VR game comes out first.

They do acknowledge it a few places, but it's not emphasized.

Anyways, I tried Soviet Lunapark VR. I wouldn't recommend it now, but if they keep working on it, it could be pretty decent. It's not a complete wreck at all, just boring and limited for now. 4 Small arenas for combat, but they say bigger zones are coming.

HOWEVER, MAN the art is great. I mean everyone's saying that about Atomic Heart, and this VR thing does give me even more hope for Atomic Heart to be epic. The art is so so great and original, I love it so much, and you can experience some of it in VR.

So yeah, this is 4 arenas with combat that's a step up from Gunheart. Performance even on low wasn't great, but better than stuff like Gunheart. Yeah it reminds me a lot of gunheart. Just doesn't feel great and a good amount of jank.

I actually posted about this earlier in the thread.

Looks cool. Will probably wait for a Steam release though.

Also the Russian theme reminds me. I don't know if you guys saw the trailer for this game Atomic Heart posted in another thread a couple days ago:

Looks pretty awesome. So the original teaser trailer actually has SteamVR and PSVR logos at the end (which the new one does not). When asked about that, it sounds like they're backing off a bit and VR is something they're still playing with including for Atomic Heart. Normally I wouldn't get my hopes up, but Mundfish is also developing Soviet Luna Park VR which is clearly related to Atomic Heart except it seems to be more of an arcade experience. So they're definitely working in the space.

I have a question about Rift and SteamVR.

Does the Rift use SteamVR's interleaved and async reprojection at all? What effect does having these off/on have when using the Rift?
