To be honest it's kind of unbelievable Microsoft has allowed development to go on for this long.

Phil Spencer tweeted this out a couple weeks ago:

"We have a plan and team is locked in on their date. We will talk about it more upcoming but wait won't be too long."

To be honest it's kind of unbelievable Microsoft has allowed development to go on for this long.
I believe under the previous structure it would have been cancelled, just like Scalebound and Fable Legends. Phil has more control and money now and is seemingly serious about upping the quality and investment in these games. I believe if this change happened sooner than Scalebound and Fable Legends would have released. Poor timing

This is insane and really disappointing, even from someone not particularly interested in what they've shown thus far.

Remember when the power of the cloud needed to define the generation for xbox? in the end the only title to (maybe) use it will be released a mere year before the next generation of consoles.

Funny thing is that every new video/trailer they release there are lots of people saying how amazing it looks and how great it is, while it always looked like an alpha product for me.

Microsoft is rich, yet it can't seem to give devs what they need to make games for them on time. Who left the company that talented devs are struggling probably because they are under budget.

This is gonna be Microsoft's own Last Guardian.

Except unlike TLG, it never looked interesting, it probably won't be any better than average and nobody really cares all that much anyway.

God. GOD. Can we be real here? Crackdown 1 was a B-as-fuck game. It's one of the best B-games of all time and a favourite of mine but still.

I think MS saw Crackdown and thought they could force it to expand beyond its natural means and the capabilities of the devs. Through sheer money and tech, they thought it could be made into a flagship when the team just weren't prepared for it. Now that all other bets are done, this is all they have left outside Halo, Forza, and Gears.

Right at the very beginning I said that this game would have massive development issues, did the fucks on Neogaf listen? Did they fuck.

This game was Microsoft's last, best hope for a critically acclaimed, signature release on Xbox One. What a fucking disaster for the legacy of the system.

The OP needs to change not to cause confusion.

I mean, Xbox owners are already outnumbered here (in the market too, to be fair), if we open threads for doomsday baseless rumors we don't really improve the situation. Half the posts is people loling at the failure of this game based on a rumor with no backup.

Can I ask, why when an MS game is delayed its the "end of the world", whereas delays to other games are "good polish it up and release it when its ready".

We know CD3 needed work from its last showing so I'd have thought taking it seriously and pushing it back a year was good news?

Track Record

When Sony delays a game: We get Uncharted 4, God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us

When Microsoft delays a game we get State of Decay 2 Quantum break Scalebound Fable legends Recore Phantom Dust

"Cancels all CD3 preorders"?

The link is literally one person saying their order got cancelled.

I mean I wouldn't even say 'rumour' in the title. It's not a rumour, it's speculation from one person.

The game looked rough each time it's been shown. After the way SoD and SoT have been received they need to make sure Crackdown is a polished, quality title. Bug fixing and polishing can't be easy with a sandbox game featuring crazy physics systems and MP so if it needs more time they should let it cook.

I'll bet they'd cancel it, if they hadn't already cancelled Scalebound and didn't want to take more shit for it.

That's still decent for me personally as Forza Horizon 3 and Ori and the Blind Forest are my two fave Xbox One titles.

My only fear is if Microsoft fuck up FH4 with an over emphasis on loot box (luck based cards and bonuses) or microtransaction type stuff like they sort of attempted (but kind of backtracked on) with Forza 7. Just leave the Horizon formula as it was in FH3, but with an awesome new location, more content, modes, upgrades, fun races, dramatic moments, better visuals etc.
I don't think it's a certainty Microsoft will again attempt with the MTX's. They have taken a step back after the lootbox drama in Forza 7, changed the economy and afaik never offered tokens (real money currency) in that game.

One thing is certain - they have lost some devoted fans after what happened with Forza 7's release. I don't expect so many people to make a blind purchase / pre-order or pick the ultimate edition (which is pretty much a waste of money in Forza 7).

When a AAA game stretches its development time a little further than what you'd expect for a game of this caliber, it's always for good, but when it extends this much, you know there's something very wrong going on...

Don't worry the development of this game was already a laughable mess even if the rumor about a 2019 date doesn't hold true.

Does anyone know if we're allowed to link to the old forum here? Either way, this is what I said (the context is a list of points as to why Microsoft are a disaster publisher0:

Conor419 said:
Microsoft Announce a new ‘Crackdown’ – No gameplay, no mention of studio.

Microsoft, last E3, announced a new Crackdown title coming to the Xbox One. The IP had looked to be in dire condition with the respective failures of both Realtime Worlds and Ruffian. And so, it was a pleasant surprise to hear that Crackdown would find new life; but, yet, we do not know who with. To fit the trend of Microsoft overpromising and under delivering, one has to wonder whether development is [actually happening], or whether we will find ourselves in a similar situation to Black Tusk’'s new IP, or 'The Phantom Dust'. We may see some ‘unfortunate development issues’ somewhere down the line.

Edit — Copy edited my old post.

Probably found out it was another half baked game like Sea of Thieves.

MS need to get some quality control on these studios thinking they just gone poop something out cause they worked on it for 4 years

Except Jez is hinting at it too which people trust him.

Why would Amazon cancel all pre-orders (a fact that we have no info of as of yet, just the speculation of a person who claims to have had his order cancelled) just because a game got a "slight" delay? It's not like the game just got pushed to next-gen or cancelled or something.

All the more reason to spend time making CD3 as good as it can possibly be?

Talk is that PS wants it to be a major game like Halo and Gears. So that takes time. AAA games take time. I suspect the scope and resources on the project have increased recently and they need time to take advantage of that.

For the record, I agree. If another delay helps to make Crackdown 3 a better game, then it's the right decision to make - especially when you look at the state of PUBG when it launched and the paucity of content that has undermined a good idea in Sea of Thieves.

But your question was why people would consider this "the end of the world", and the answer is that the Xbox One exclusive slate looks worryingly empty when you line it up against the competition.

Delaying an already late game even further when you have nothing to replace it with doesn't help the general perception that Microsoft is a long way off of its heyday. And delays of this kind are naturally going to be framed against the backdrop of other things like Scalebound.

Regardless, it's just a rumour for now, so no point getting too het up over it.

This game is never going to come out, and I bet if it ever does it will be rough as hell and will have loads of backlash.

I think there might be less confidence among some in delays actually lending to much better releases with Microsoft. Case in point being stuff like Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2. The former was delayed twice but when it eventually released was still super slim on content, and the latter moved from its official 2017 window to Spring 2018, but still released in a very buggy and questionable state.

If it gets delayed til 2019 I'd say just cancel it.

If all Microsoft has this fall is Forza Horizon 4... wow. That could be the shittiest exclusive fall lineup in modern history.
