I think this looks really neat. I only dabble in Pokémon from time to time. My last game was X and before that was Soul Silver. The exclusion of fighting wild Pokémon is a little disappointing but maybe they'll add many more trainer battles throughout the world.

And holy fuck Nintendo is going to sell a shit ton of these. System seller for sure.

Also I wonder if you can evolve Eevee and Pikachu. I can't imagine gamefreak is making outfits for every Eevee evolution.

User Warned: “Lazy Devs” Rhetoric
Developing games is very hard work. Most people don't know of the amount of time, frustration, and lack of personal and family time it demands. Fixing code and bugs can be a nightmare.

That said I have no problem with calling Game Freak's progress as a games developer lazy.

I'm sorry if it's confusing, the whole situation is.

What I think is that Let's Go is a 'main pokemon game' because it will set the foundation for all the next switch games to come.
Let's Go will be the remakes (I'm expecting a gen 2 in a few years) and the 'new gen' games will use elements from go, the engine from go and will simply add a new region + new pokemons.
I hardly believe this, the next game will hopefully have an art style more in line with USUM.

Honestly...Pokemon needs to change its developer ASAP.

GF stopped caring in the early 2000s, they keep recycling the formula every year, and technicaly their games are ridiculous, just look at Let's Go, it's like a Gamecube Game in HD, and i don't expect Gen 8 will be much different to this.

Just imagine Monolith Soft making a Pokemon game, that would be nuts.
No thanks I want good competitive combat, the visuals just need to be serviceable

Counter argument: Trainer battles are the same exact thing but you can't run away. Thus they could be seen as MORE tedious, repetitive,, frustrating. Like, at what point do you just throw out all gameplay and have Nintendo just hook up a nostalgia-drip IV straight into our veins?

That's not a real argument. Trainer battles are not random. It's the random aspect thst makes wild battles boring and tedious.

This is the new super mario bros of Pokémon

Goddamn it, that is exactly how I feel about these games. Could never really get into NSMB because it felt too... fuck it, I'll say it the best I can, "safe"? Something to bring the core and casual audience into the Mario series.

This is... not what I was hoping for from the first mainline Switch Pokemon games. The heavy Go focus (which maybe I should of seen coming due to the names), simplified stats mechanics, no wild battles, and (I believe???) forced gyro controls for the catching? It's all just too much of a casual take on Pokemon, when I'm over here still clamoring for something more like B2W2 with a fairly meaty post game. Doesn't seem like it's what they're going for for these games, so I'm just going to have to wait in line for the 2019 ones, ha.

The thing I'm most excited about is co opt.

People bring up sales. and I think that's an interesting point

Will this be like windwaker whose sales suffered due to "kiddy graphics " or will it be like breath of the wild or somewhere inbetween. The core gamers perceptions can absolutely kill word of mouth.

I also find the negative reaction here interesting. My boyfriend is a diehard pokemon fan(about the only game he owns or plays). He was absolutely thrilled about this announcement. Even to the point where he was asking if we wanted both versions and he's expecting us to get the pokeball

Will be interesting to see if era is the anomaly or uim. I have a lot of gaming friends who dont like pokemon games but play the crap out of pokemon go. So well see
People can rag on about the core qualities of Pokémon all the livelong day but it is still a franchise that majorly appeals to younger audiences and kids. The games have always had a cartoon aesthetic to them, this isn't that big of a leap.

The people who populate places like Era, Smogon and /vp/ aren't going to do jack shit to hurt the game's perception unless it's just straight up not a good game.

It wouldn't be good. As much as we like to hate on GF, only they know how to handle a Pokémon game.

I know I'm in the minority, but I haven't played a mainline pokemon game I've enjoyed as much as the mystery dungeon series. Other devs can do fun things with pokemon.

With all information I have seen so far about Pokemon Let's Go games, I'm not really sure what to think about them. For me, battling, raising Pokemons, and exploring new areas are main attractions for Pokemon games. It feels like pretty stripped down of those aspects for me.

If key systems of LGP/LGE are succesful, expect them to return in the 2019 game.

I wonder if evolution will be done traditionally or via candies, and whether we'll have levels or CP as per GO?

Luckily Gyro doesn't seemed to be forced, unless you count light gyro aiming as forced, you don't need to throw the ball everytime.

Looks great. My wife and daughter are big Pokémon Go fans so may be able to get them into this.

Sabrina and the broken ass Psychic types weren't a joke
If you picked charmander brock would kick your ass big time, misty too
Gary would kick your ass every single time if you didn't grind a bit and get a few good pokémons
Sabrina and koga could kick your ass with some BS too, E4 would wreck you several times if not well prepared

Welp as someone who started playing pokemon go a few days ago, this is awesome. I do like more the "core RPG" pokemon games and next year we will get one (new gen) so I'm happy with this.

Two player co-op is lazy and uninspired? I'm not a Pokemon fan really but I'm surprised more people aren't celebrating that, I thought it would have been massive.
Im sorry but i just came from God of War and Breath of the wild which are massive reboots and extremely well done, i cant help but feel underwhelmed by this.

Yellow hard mode:

First gym with only Pikachu at lv.15. Spam Double Team, Tackle all the way to victory. (It was easy actually, just a long battle)

A Monolith Soft Pokemon game where you don't catch Pokemon, you find/win common and rare Pokeballs and open them to see what you've got. By mid-game you'll have 50 Pidgeys, 30 Weedles, and a particularly well-endowed Lopunny.

(jk Kimora, I like XC2. Please understand!)

I don't think they would make such a distinction if they were merely planning to make the next game exactly like this.

This announcement sounds like reassurance. The counterarguement that it is actually to reassure people that there will be a new Pokemon Generation isn't remotely convincing to me, because there being new generations was never remotely in doubt by anyone.

There would be no need for them to make this announcement and take any sliver of attention away from Let's Go, except to reassure people displeased with this direction.

Now do I think this may affect the future of the series? If it's big, absolutely! Will it have some things in common? Nit unlikely.

But the distinction they have made makes it sound like they want to differentiate 2019 game from Let's Go.
