Yeah I would understand if this was a mainline game and they changed the formula this much to a more casual one. But it is not, so why the outrage? I for one am excited to see what more we can do in this game beyond what the trailer shows.
I mean, regardless of anything else, this is a mainline game. It's not a new generation.

Jeuxvideo.com a french gaming website just posted on twitter that there won't be online at launch. Is this confirmed? This seems beyond bonkers, even for Gamefreak.

It's bonkers. I'm French and that website did by the past pushed their boundaries for fake news just for clicks. If it's not confirmed officially by TPC, it's not true.

Putting two entirely different stat systems into your RPG is very, very far from an easy fix.
This, not an easy fix at all. Also not even a needed 'fix' or something that Game Freak would ever do, as that is simply not the direction this game is taking. Wait for 2019 for your 'classic' wild battles and let them experiment with this for now.

So what else will it have? Yeah pvp battles but, uhm, what else?

You have a world? Will you get a boat and search pokémon into the seas? If u do this, i'm really impressive.
Someone to play with u.

They show just a bit of how the game is, the catch and found system. The battles still in a classic way, with classic moves and bla bla.

We still doesn't know about gyms, story, connection with other versions, poké bank. They way of leveling up (I found something in the comments about simplify, but we don't know exactly how it works).

Well, a lot of things need to be shown until we attack.

I doubt you will get a boat when you can surf on pokemon.

Some of y'all are crazy. Gen is 8 next year, no way it was coming this year when the anime has to first finish the sun and moon plot anwayways. Just get over it and be happy Pokemon is coming to switch and a Guaranteed one next year

I don't think ditching EVs and IVs is ultimately a good move. Casual players could ignore them and still get through the extremely easy main game, while it increases the variety of sets you can use online, such as using odd speed investments to outspeed specific threats, investing just enough in defence to survive a particular attack from a common counter to your Pokemon etc.

more recent games in the series had the right idea in making it easier than ever to see and understand EVs and IVs, as well as making it easier to get the stats you want through stuff like the destiny knot, bottle caps, super training, hordes etc

What a fool I was. I could not have seen wild battles being completely removed. As someone who desperately wants them to overhaul IVs and EVs I don't think CP is the way to go. Who knows what other bizarre changes they might implement.

They could easily make a good Yellow remake. They could make a good Yellow remake with Pokemon Go features. But it seems like Game Freak completely doesn't understand what makes Pokemon Go appealing. It's not that it's only the first 151 or that you throw a ball, but the idea that you actually have to go hunt for Pokemon in real life. Different places have different Pokemon, it feels like a legitimate adventure. The social aspect is a huge part of it as well (something they are admittedly focusing on with this game). Plus the general mindless bar filling nature of the game hooks people who are susceptible to that aka mobile gamers.

No one cares about the ball throwing mechanic at all. You don't even have to look at the screen. If it was just a "tap fast to catch the Pokemon!" mechanic Go would still be popular. The capture mechanic is not strategic or engaging. Maybe it changes for tougher raid battles, but you could throw the ball whenever. The circle seems to have very little effect. A blind person would eventually catch a Pokemon in Go.

I'm sure this game will sell well, maybe even around 15+ million like XY and SM, but I have to question to crossover between people who are going to buy this game and people who are played Go. The game is still popular now, hell I turn it on every now and then, but the audience is not the same as someone who is going to drop $300 on a Switch and then $60 on this (plus $50 on a ball if you want that). I see old ass people in the park or on the train playing Go. Are they going to swing by an electronic store and drop $400 so they can play this? The same goes for the lapsed Go fans who played it like crazy during the summer of 2016 and haven't played since. Sun and Moon came out months after Go, and while it certainly got a big boost in sales thanks to the attention, it wasn't astronomically higher. Sold almost the same as XY which released years earlier.

As someone who likes Pokemon, Gen I, and Go (it's not a good game but I like it), it feels like it's completely missing the mark on why those three things are popular.
This is pretty much where I'm at.

Yeah, I have to agree with all of this. I'm actually feeling less and less confident it'll even sell as well as XY or SM. Anecdotally, when those games were revealed it felt big and it seemed like everyone was talking about them. Let's Go though still seems big, but in comparison to previous generations, it feels smaller to me. Like it's mostly the usual people talking about it and not everyone. That's just anecdotal though.

If we can use anecdotal evidence, I'm seeing tons of people on my twitter timeline and irl who've not bought a pokemon game in years planning to buy a switch to play this. If they have a switch then planning to buy their first pokemon game in a decade plus.

Ok, so first of all, let's not overreact and let's analyse this news with common sense.

- I think it's a great move to use some features of the very successful pokemon go and enable some sort of switch connectivity. I makes a lot of sense and it's great - from a bussiness point of view.

- I think it's a great move to make a game that's a little less "complicated" than the mainline games. From the trailer, it looks like its core concept is easier to understand to me at least (I'm not a pokemon fan btw). Children or people who are new to pokemon will probably appreciate this change. Especially the addition of on-screen multiplayer is a good thing. Motion catching is also a cool feature that adds to the immversion.

- Obviously there will be an oldskool mainline (gen 8 or whatever you call it) pokemon game as well sometime in the future without a doubt.

So there is this new "let's go" game and gen 8 in the future. I don't see any problem here.

If you think critics care as much about the wild Pokemon catching mechanics as the hardcore you are going to be in for a surprise.

Other than that is a HD Remake of a beloved RPG title with co-op. It will review very well.

In the end, the anon from 4chan was right. BEFORE everyone, without vague hints, he did not rode the coattails from others, but in the end, some people here will only acknowledge one person being ''''responsible'''' for the leaks... rollseyes.gif

Well, saying that, this game is not for me. I am not mad, but I play Pokémon only for breeding, trainning and battling. I would love an option to skip the campaign and start in the postgame. And I do not care about the levels either, I would bring my team from Pokébank.

Well, that is for 2019 so...

I'll be honest I am by far not a Pokemon fan. I've only played 2 games in the series being Emerald and Platinum. I've never really gotten a lot of fun out of it. But I guess thats just me.

This looks awesome, and as someone who was growing tired of the formula, this game looks like it has enough to bring me back to the series and perhaps hype me up for the new generation late next year. :)

I admit I was wrong about the leakers being completely wrong, but my original comment about not having the core franchise this year remains true (although they try to sell let's go as a new core branch, but we all know what we're talking about). Everyone told me it was going to be mainline, and it isn't. But it exists, so, I guess, nobody wins completely.
But it IS mainline, geeze. Also, what you are saying about branches? It is something completely made up by Centro Pokémon. They just straight us said that it is mainline, it's just that is a more experimental title than others. But I guess you accepting you were wrong about the leakers is the most I can expect so I'll take it.

All previous Pokemon remake (eg Omega Ruby) or reimagine (eg Ultra Sun) were full price and were worth it. I don't know why some of you think this is not. I can't wait to play it.

The wild Pokemon encounter in previous mainline games were not fun anyway, I am happy they change it to Pokemon Go style. Hope they update and improve it and implement it in future mainline games.

I think these games are super smart, it already generated a ton of buzz everywhere. Popularity of Switch and Go will sure make it explode. Even the Pikachu vs Eevee battle generate a lot of conversation among fans.

The official Pokemon twitter says that an "all-new core series Pokémon RPG" is coming in 2019, implying Let's Go isn't a core series. I'm sure it will sell well, and graphically this is what I want the new games to be, but... yeah this just isn't what I want from a Pokemon game. Prob gonna pass on this.

This means we get a core Pokémon game and the go series now alternating every other year?

Ooooooooooo

This could be cool to have, especially if Go is starting from the beginning meaning the next go iteration will be johto. Oh damn this has me excited if the core stuff is fun enough

That'd be more compelling to me if there weren't people like that for every new game. Like, I literally remember people going "I haven't played a Pokemon game since RBY, but XY is what's going to bring me back in!" If anything it feels like there are less of them this time which is what caught my attention. But again, this is just anecdotal. I didn't mean for my personal misgivings to sound like an actual prediction on Let's Go's performance.

So people that are saying they are doing this to attract to the mainline pokemon all those new go players (and is something that gamefreak is confirming so they are right)...
The are simplifying A TON the game (of a game that was already simple as fuck), doing the most terrible graphics possible for some shitty "we wanted to feel like the old games" excuse and then they intend this people to jump to the core one?
Wasnt Go already that step needed with nothing else?
Like I 100% completely understand going back to kanto with the first 151 pokemon (and i dont mind that aspect at all) to attract that audience, but simplifying the game?
The only thing im seeing here is them wanting to separate the two audiences completely, with both series coexisting selling well at first, until one of them sells worse with each entry and dissapears.
They would have gotten exactly the same audience (and the core that dont want to buy this spin off at the same time, becuase let be reasonable here, if the scenarios of the game looked like something out of xenoblade, even the people crying about gen1 repeat where going to buy it on day zero) if they would have made a real pokemon game that actually looks like it was made this last 5 years on a home console and is a real remake of kanto that looked like if it came from the anime backgrounds with the 151 pokemon. Theres no need to simplify mechanics, nobody, not even pokemon go only players, were clamoring for catching throwing a pokeball without a fight, or shitty DS graphics, nor a simplified battle system. The only really attractive thing here is the 151 pokemon following you.
The pokemon go audience if you give them this lets go series instead of jumping directly to a good real remake, are going to find confussing if they try to jump to the core one that releases next year, not ease them into it. And why would they need to buy a new pokemon game just after a year they will ask, and why its the name of a colour now instead of lets go whatever, and why cant I throw pokeballs anymore and i have to fight them now, and why doesnt the pokemon follow me (becuase im betting that last one is not going to transfer, even if its the only good idea this game has)...
And then you have people (like some of my friends) that still play pokemon go and like it a lot, and they already told me this game looks like crap and they are going to wait for the 2019 one.
IMO they are only separating more and more both audiences with this "stepping stone series" instead of attracting them all to the same main series, and im afraid that at the end of the day the one that feels more expensive (lol at pokemon games feeling expensive) and takes more hard work to make and sells less in comparison of the cost, is the one thats going to get the axe in the future sadly. Hope im wrong with this (and both can coexist or the one that gets the axe is lets go becuase after some games starts to sell la lot less as they were right for it to be an steeping stone and makes the core games have a bigger audience at the end), but thats how i feel about this game existing, even if the 2019 game looks absolutely amazing.

Are we getting to the phase where you're all predicting sales failure ? Can't wait for it to break records when it launches this fall then.

Well, either way, one of you will be eating crow.
As someone who has played about half of the generations. I still can't wrsp my head around it. All the IV, HV, HM crap. The shiny Pokémon. The breeding or whatever.

I have no idea how to do any of that.
EVs and IVs are basically only for the competitive crowd, and have zero to do with anything for the casual audience. The games don't even reference them because of that.

HMs were wiped out last generation in favor of Ride Pokemon. Shiny Pokemon will still be included in this.

That just leaves Pokemon breeding, which may or may not be included in this. Like, is breeding alone, something completely optional to begin with, too much for you as a player?

Nah dude. Quit your nonsense and stop shifting the goalposts. You were so adamant that the Let's Go games were fake, and that we'd all be feasting on crow for believing the rumours (and these are mainline games, whether we like them or not).

Fosko said:
Those Let's Go rumors will be proved fake soon enough (all of them) Don't worry, it will al be over soon, unless Pokémon Switch isn't shown at E3, in which case this madness won't stop until next year.

Fosko said:

Fosko said:
Don't worry, I'm not mad. I'm also looking forward to the feast of crows I'm going to deliver this E3.

Fosko said:
There's nothing until E3, you're all suffering here for nothing. And even then they might not even reveal it.

3 weeks remaining.

Fosko said:
Nice! I hope you witness my moment of glory when I deliver crow to everyone who believes in Let's Go.

Fosko said:
I won't. But when I'm proven right, I'd apreaciate if someone gave me a Marshadow.

Fosko said:
I originally came here saying I believed thos rumors were fake, everybody quoted me saying that it was ridiculous, that I would eat crow, and so on.

I'm not here to irritate anyone.

Fosko said:
True pokémon leaks tend to happen shortly before the release, not before the announcement.

Fosko said:
I'm glad you enjoy my replies, fellow spaniard. My goal is to deliver crow to everyone this E3

Fosko said:
It's not likely to enter the switch with gen 7 games, it's also not likely to start gen 8 with remakes featuring old pokémon on the boxart.

Fosko said:
Then you realise, the most probable thing is that the rumor is false.

Fosko said:
This is proof "Let's Go" means nothing to Game Freak/TPC/Nintendo, as if it did, they wouldn't have retweeted it. They read "let's go" and think it's only a cute english sentence about Eevee.

Fosko said:
I'm ok with this if they also give me a tittle If I turn out to be right.

Looks like the crows have come home to roost. I'm not personally going to give you further grief over it, but please just stop with the whole "guess I was actually-secretly-kinda right after all" shtick. It makes you come across as rather desperate and reaching.
