I have some doubts about this.
Pokémon go was a phenomenon because it was free in a device everyone already had.
If Nintendo can manage to convert those people to buying a $300 console and a $60 video game remains to be seen.
I swear to god ive seen this awful backward ass statement said by multiple different people in the exact same way
disliking the entire franchise except the first entry isn't "liking a game". People don't like genwunners because they're dicks that do nothing but shit on everything they dont have nostalgia for. they are literally the opposite of "liking a game".
Even if they get 0.5% of that audience, it's still a crazy amount
People that aggressively shit on everything that isn't gen 1 because gen 1 is the only good one
...we barely know anything about the game yet except that they are employing mechanical changes
This reminds me of the wind waker days when people hate the game due to its graphical changes.
The games changes may make it super shallow, they may make it boring repetitive ,netc etc. But we dont know that yet. So yeah I dont understand criticizing the game until we see enough of it to get a real idea of its depth, game length etc.
That said, I can understand missing the old mechanics.b
my heart sunk when i read saw it's kanto again. then then i read pokemon go like catching, no wild battles and saw the 3ds graphics in higher resolution and something in me died.
this might be one of the biggest disappointments in all of my gaming life. the original pokemon were always in my top 10 games of all time and i've been dreaming of a real console RPG for years- just wow.

Catch the 4-5 Pokémon available on the route. Once probably. With not a single one a surprise because you've seen them for 20 years now.

Fishing can still work like it always has. You just immediately GO into capture mode upon hooking somehting.

there are wild pokemons, you just catch them like in go/the safari zone.

You most likely won't. This game has more chances to share metagame with GO (only 3 stats with "hidden" IV ranging from 1-15, no EVs) than with mainline Pokémon.
GF runs a business, if for whatever reason gen1 evokes the strongest feelings among fans and non-fans, they will continue referencing those designs. They don't "pander" to anyone, they use their strongest, most recognizable designs as the backbone of the IP.
This looks fun. Looks like the Pokemon game most people dreamed of.
And wild Pokemon battles literally make no sense. The Pokemon GO format of trying to throw the right ball at them at the right angle and distance etc makes more sense, although I think there could be some wild Pokemon where a trainer appears behind them during the scene change.

Yeah, the problem had already been solved with repels, now they created a new problem because the old behavior is impossible to have now.
If theres no wild battles how are we capturing pokemon? And why is the world now devoid of wild pokemon?

No random encounters. Pokémon are in the overworld, run into them to start an encounter.
The people complaining about 'genwunners' have always been more obnoxious and vocal than the people they're complaining about, it's ridiculous.

Pokemon spawn on the overworld, and you engage them.
Catering to people who couldn't care less about the series for 18 years, surely this will win them over and make them longtime customers

Lmao, they've literally said there's gonna be a separate traditional Pokémon RPG on the Switch next year. You all are hilarious.
I am a consumer, I dont care about them running a bussiness, I care about my enjoyment of the game which is what every consumer should do.
Their focus on grabbing nostalgic bites of people that left the franchise after gen 1 and will not stay unless they are the main focus is also not a growing factor in the long term as it will just create a toxic relationship where you will end up suffering much more heavy franchise fatigue as the focus is always on the same set of pokemon.
Edit: I think i have to repeat I am not angry with this game I am just giving my opinion on the case of the focus on gen 1 was detrimental for gen 6 and 7.
