Sure there's nothing wrong if a 2018 title plays like a 1996 title. There's nothing wrong too if a 2018 RPG has a map identical to a 1996 one. It's okay to have towns made of 3 houses. Let's be against change, it's acceptable.
I mean, we sort of have to put up with your lazy dev narrative that's almost as old as Pokémon itself. So let's let the market decide.
I'm not even interested in this year's games, will be anticipating 2019 instead. But come the f*ck on, let people like what they like and spare us this horrible elitist crap. You won't buy these games, got it.

Unfortunately the one aspect the controls we have heard indicates the motion controls are mandatory and despite it being the main control option in Pokemon Go you can't use the touchscreen in hand held mode. There's a chance it might be a mistranslation like with the online debacle but no one has deconfirmed forced Motion controls.

That is not true in portable mode tho.

You are just aiming with gyro and pressing a button to throw.

Just watched the trailer for Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and a few thoughts:

1. I really hope that motion control especially with the Pokeball one isn't mandatory, especially if you have to use your right hand like the trailer seems to indicate (for player 1 anyway) and like other Nintendo games have done like Skyward Sword. That would get sore for me fast.
2. Really hope Pokemon Go isn't the only way to transfer Pokemon and Wonder trading the PokeBank and other ways come back.
3. Shaking the Pokeball like that seems awfully cruel.
4. So this is basically remake of Pokemon Yellow? Like in those games are Eevee and Pikachu going to be unable to evolve at all?
5. Looks fun in general. Red looks more Satoshi/Ash than ever before and I like Green/Leaf's new design
6. Hope Green/Leaf is finally going to be allowed to be canon and not completely forgotten about (like all women player characters like last generation pulled with Pokemon Generations and Sun and Moon)?
7. Will Bellossom be in the game?
8. How will shiny Pokemon work in this game?

People are over estimating Gos impact will have in this.

That was a free game, which encourages exploration and socialising, and was something unique and unheard of.

This is ducktaping the main series and Go together with stripping down both of they're main draws.

If you think the millions of people playing Go are gonna shell out £300 for a console and the game your wrong.

It'll do average Pokemon numbers I'm betting.

Yesterday I bought a New 2DS for 105€ (it was a good deal and I've been hunting for a cheap one for a while) so I guess I'd go back into Pokemon with either S&M or one of the Ultra versions, since Emerald was the last Pokemon game I played back in the day.

I honestly see this as a mixed bag, since:

Graphics look good, seeing Kanto in HD is nice and being able to see Pokemon roaming the field adds to the inmersion but I don't think that tall grass should be kept only for decoration. I always thought the best idea was having Pokemon roaming the field and have some tall grass exclusive Pokemon. Stuff like Bug type, small Plant type, or others. Furthermore, the fact that you'd only be able to catch the first 150 Pokémon is a boring idea. I think it'd have been much more interesting if the plot revolved around invasive species from different regions destroying the ecosystem and putting some of the region Pokemon close to extinction. Team Rocket could have been bringing them and selling them as pets in order to fund other projects of theirs.

That would justify some 1st gen species being nowhere to be found and the presence of newer fan favorites that would try to entice other players to get into the newer gens. In order to complete the national Pokédex, you could have the rest of Gen 1 in the Safari, or sidequests asking you to go to some area in order to find and catch some of the few remaining members of an endangered species, or a mix of both.

The fact that you can't fight wild Pokemon isn't that cool either. They could have set Go style catching as an option and allow people to do normal wild battles otherwise, even if those gave little EXP if toogled. Motion control catching looks like something that 20 to 30 years old people buying this for nostalgia reasons would get tired of after a couple of sessions.

I'm really curious how local co-op will work exactly in this game. It seems like it's drop-in, drop-out, right? To the best I can tell it kinda looks that way, and you can have someone join you pretty much anytime (as long as you aren't already trying to catch something or battling someone or anything like that).

If so, does it basically split the party in two? P1 gets top 3 Pokémon, P2 gets the other 3, and then they can just move them around and stuff from there. Or will there be some other way of determining who has access to what? And in co-op, what's the second player doing when you're trying to capture Pokémon. Do they somehow help with that, are they just doing nothing/taking turns, or does the game go split-screen and P2 keeps doing their own separate things doing those sequences?

Definitely going to be interesting to see how that all works out in any case. I've been curious about the idea of co-op in Pokémon games for a while, but I've never been quite sure about how Game Freak would go about handling it exactly when/if it would happen, so I guess we'll find out soon enough now as we get new details about these games.

It looked like both threw the Pokeball and it did a strange animation thing. Maybe both have to throw it at the same time and having both hitting the circle would increase the chances of a catch.

I'm really confused by this trailer. Is this a more traditional Pokemon than GO was? Because I was bored with GO after catching my first Pokemon. Hopefully this one will have some depth to the combat. I'm also put off by the ball shaped controller, but that does seem to be wholly optional. I'd prefer to play a more traditional Pokemon rpg on my couch with a Pro controller.

No wild Pokemon catching seems odd as well? Hopefully I won't be forced to catch Pokemon in GO or whatever, that would be dreadful.

I'm team bench Pikachu/Eevee as soon as possible and use a Pokemon that isn't hindered by the fact that it can't fucking evolve.

You... you can bench them right?

Now that the dust has settled I'm actually pretty pleased with the reveal. Joe coming in and assuring the presence of online ameliorates some of my concerns about battles being pushed to the side. Watching that trailer again, I actually love what they've done with it visually. Everything is bright and bouncy and you really feel the charm the Pokemon series is kinda known for. Watching the trainer ride the Onyx is a stand out moment for me.

I still have a lot of questions. I'm curious about what the 2 player local mode is exactly. Is it just another body that uses the same pokemon already in your team? Probably, but that feels...boring? I'm hoping the multiplayer options (Online lobby from the original leak) are much, much more extensive than what we know/expect. E3 would be a good place to go into that.

But, if we're getting a Pokemon game (8 gyms, elite four) without wild battles, but with everything else I saw in that trailer, I'm pretty pleased. They did a good job of making Pokemon GO feel like an extension of these games. You catch Pokes out in the real world and then bring them over to your game to be caught there. That works.
Actually I feel like the local 2 players could be awesome if it was what I thinkit might be.
Since you're supposed to be able to use multiple accounts, I'm wondering if you can't summon a character from a family member playing the same switch in the house so you both capture/battle together but you can each play with your own teams...
And maybe when you capture a new one, either both get the pokemon, or you chose who gets it by just giving the pokeball to one or the other through simple exchange menu.

Hope it's done like this more or less.
Because it has a strong local multi feel and if done well, it would be very fun.

Which is my entire point. If someone dedicated wouldn't shell out cash just because they enjoyed a free game then why would other people who aren't dedicated?

Dude, you ar in a forum that trashed the Switch, that said that splatoon was gonna be a colossal bomba, that trashes sports tittles and games with microtransactions, and those games are what sells the most. This forum is not indicative of nothing.
Buuuttt i also might add that social media is also indicative of nothing.
So, the point that im traying to make, is that nothing is certain.

Well it seems no Online is dead once and for all.

There's a partial archive of the conference Q&A here and it looks like the part that led people to believe there won't be any online gameplay is around 8:23.

https://www.pscp.tv/w/1rmxPmoBNZbKN

The question is framed around Nintendo's online service that begins in September and Ishihara answered that they have no plans to use the service right now.

- No wild battles, catching in Go-Style mandatory
- Map looks like a 1:1 remake of Yellow, it is even tile-based
- Can't transfer newer Pokemon over even after Postgame
-1!!!! new Pokemon, even fucking US/UM had 5
- Pretty bad graphics, especially the Trainers look like shit. The Mewtwo intro looked like a f2p mobile game.
- Can't even Nuzlocke the game as random encounters are gone

After 20 years they finally managed to make a Pokemon RPG I won't buy, kudos to Gamefreak.
Not only that, it basically guarantees there won't be a chance for Kanto/Johto Sequel in the next 1-2 decades.
I am so mad right now.

I'm very mixed on these games.

On one hand, it makes perfect sense from business point of view, the capture mechanic is fine and the game looks beautiful.
On the other hand, as a VGC player, I feel kinda forgotten, and I'm really not sure how long this game will keep me interested. I've played way more than a thousand hours on the 3DS games combined, but if Pokemon LeGo has no online play, it's nothing more than a good looking remake of a 20 years old game.

I can't believe the finale of VGC 2019 will be played on a 3DS.

You can. They confirmed that the Partner Pokemon are a part of your 6 man team and they can be boxed and replaced with a different Pikachu and Eevee.

I'll come around on it but I can't help feel underwhelmed too.

At the very least I thought they'd have made the region more three dimensional, like wider areas, rolling fields etc, but it's just flat and angular like the older games.

And I guess next year's game will also look a whole lot like this which is also disappointing.

That is way different to what was implied before. So you can play these games online for free?

I truly hope the 2019 titles aren't just uprezzed 3DS games in that sense. I can see why they went with that here since this is supposed to be "babbys first console pokemon game" for a lot of people.

I'm now thinking combat with other trainers will be extremely dumbed down too, so that you can use eevee and pikachu all through the story lmao

Wait, we might be able to play Pokemon games online without paying a fee? Wow, if that ends up being the case then I have literally no reason to pay the Switch online fee.

Because this might affect the direction of the Gen 8 game mechanically.
Dunno, seems unlikely.

They are calling this a part of the mainline series. Distinction between this one and Gen 8 wouldn't be needed to be pointed out if that game was planned to be in line with this one. In fact, that game wouldn't even exist.

I wouldn't worry until the "core" game AFTER 2019 one. Now that may get affected heavily depending on this game's success.

It's speculation or for real?
I want to play and chill at home, i'm 34... do they expect me to go with a suit around the city to try and catch pokemon?
Just, ugh....

If it's confirmed, hard pass...

Also, forgot to add.

Even if we consider 2018 as a "gap year" for VGC, like it was in 2015 with no new game between ORAS and SuMo, the situations are completely different.

What I mean is that ORAS added way more competitive Pokemon than USUM did, with the introduction of new Megas. No we will have to play for 3 years with basically the same games (USUM added only 3 Pokemon for VGC). All of that without talking about the fact that we still were on the same console after ORAS, whereas VGC 2019 will be played on 3DS more than two and a half years after the Switch release...

Well I was wrong I will eat crow now. Jk but I am actually hyped for it. My husband will probably enjoy it too since he is a hardcore Pokémon Go fan :)
