I think it looks fucking awesome but I'm not a big Pokemon person.

You should be glad that it's not a 3DS game.
And don't you start with : "I'd rather have a real Pokemon game on 3ds rather than this"

For the record I agree with the argument about the sprites, GameFreak got less inventive with silhouettes and posing, ending up in the generic bouncing of Gen V. Plus, they were more at ease with going "off-model".

Will the pokeball also work as a pedometer? So you can level up Pokémon?

Need more information before considering a buy. For example:

Are these games still RPGs?
Are some Pokemons only aviable in GO / Quest ?

As I have said already, this game's existence is a good thing. It conveys that Game Freak understands that the broader casual audience and the core audience are different and possibly irreconcilable, and they are willing to make two sets of games to appeal to both, rather than trying to water down the mainline games in a misguided attempt to chase the casual audience.
This tale deserves a thread TBH. Maybe once all of the new Pokémon threads have died down, but yeah, it's a great way to look at it.

So there's going to be more Pokemon in Pokemon GO on phones than in Pokemon Let's Go on the Switch? That seems more than a bit odd.

Pokémon Go will be moving into Gen 4 by the time this comes out

If we cant battle wild pokemon, then how will we level up our pokemon? Trainer battles usually cant be redone. This leads me to believe you can fight wild pokemon if you have a pokemon following you.

How do you play with the poke ball? Catching I understand but living around and interfering with the world? Video made it look like that's all you need

The poke ball working as a go plus is good - I can imagine my daughter using it and getting back into go
Traditional RPGs don't really need anything beyond Confirm and Deny buttons, and even the second option can be forsaken with additional menu prompts. Plus, it looks like the button in the Pokéball doubles as a stick.

I'm really excited for this but no online aspect at all is really weird. Hopefully there's a Battle Frontier or something included to keep the replay value up. Once people catch all the Pokemon and have beat the main game, there needs to be some reason for them to keep playing if there's not going to be any online aspect.

Also, they say all of the 151 Pokemon are available in the game... so Mew will be catchable?

How will evolutions work? Is it using the candy system from GO where you need to catch a ton of Pokemon?

Like i write before, i think pokeball work as pedometer, so you can level up(maybe non the only option but the faster)

I thought it looked fun. Assuming that the title coming next year is much more in-line with what we expect from a Pokemon RPG, I'm quite happy to have a little fun and do something different with this title this year.

You know what, I think I'll enjoy a laid back revisit of Kanto, especially knowing that a more traditional Pokemon title is in the works. Should be a relaxing game to play handheld in bed. For younger kids this looks kind of amazing, with the Pokeball accessory and all.

Sorry, just woke up, and I'm sure this was already answered (but 67 pages).
is this the mainline pokemon game announced last E3? Or just a spin-off?

Hmm, something I'm curious about when it comes to these games. It sounds like the Alolan forms of the Kanto Pokémon are going to be in these games, right? Will be interesting to see if the Mega Evolutions of the Kanto Pokémon that have them are also in or not in that case, or if that will be pushed to the sidelines for now.

Random encounters were already old when Earthhbound took them out in 1994. I can't fathom how ANYONE can still defend them.

Like Eurogamer said:
2019 core RPG (untitled) is set to be "in the style of X and Y and Sun and Moon". This should appease competitive players, with Let's Go! aimed at a broad audience, "a core RPG for everyone".

So despite its not core Pokemon game, this game will very popular and will sell millions of Switch units especially because offers local multiplayer.

I was all in until they revealed the catching method is exactly like Pokemon Go and the fact you don't battle Pokemon to catch them. Also I don't understand the OP that there are no wild encounters? Does that mean that there are sprite dotted everywhere that you can avoid or am o being stupid?

According to Game Freak it IS apparently mainline game, but NOT the one that was announced at E3. The one that was announced at E3 is coming in the second half of next year.

The art style on characters is real ugly.

And disappointed in seeing more Gen 1, even though the world looks graphically ambitious for once.

Interesting to see how no wild battles work, I'm skeptical.

I think I will write my opinion by stating several things I like and I didnt like

Graphics and Overworld
-The colours of the world look nice and the graphics are pretty Ok, hope they improve a little bit more but it is not a bad base.
-The return of the grid design is a DISAPPOINTMENT, it makes the game look much more ancient and backwards than it really should. Hope the next game goes back to the most "natural" look of SM.
-The camera being fixed (probably) is a little bit sad but i guess they made it so that you are able to only play with only one controller.
-Some of the pics going around here of how the game is nearly a 1:1 translation of the original world makes it worse. Kanto is the most boring region design wise so going back there just to see the same again gets a big MEH from me. For those who have huge nostalgia it might work.
-Pokemon following you is back (which is cool). They probably werent back before due to size constraints (the onix thing would look really bad in SM as it would fill the whole screen). It looks really AMAZING.

Mechanics

-You guys remember how i was worried about the leak saying catching pokemon was going to be like Go? I was right in being so. I have played Go, I still prefer the traditional way of catching pokemon (which is much more interesting until the moment of throwing the ball). This also leeds to the problem of having to capture all random pokemon (instead of it being an option) if you want to grind a little meaning that each captured Pokemon will lose their importance in the single player. It will also make going along long routes much less interesting as you wont feel the panic of your pokemon being slowly weakened (for gen1 only fans: remember how in mount moon your pokemon ended up really scrapping the barrel? not now). A big DISAPOINTMENT
-It seems as if stats will be more dumbed down (looking at Go and the CP value thing on the pokemon capturing scene), heavily affecting how pokemon works. Pokemon stats in the main games should be easier to understand (a part where tutorial are required in pokemon is in the interface between pve and pvp where you are mainly left to try and bridge the chasm) but dumbing them down in a Pokemon Go way would make it a much less interesting game to play.
-No HMs is great but i hope they are not focusing on field moves inherent to pokemon and allow you to have the pokeride system. Having to have some pokemon team constraints imposed on you is not cool.
-Having a box with you all the time will seriously limit how difficult routes can be made as the battle of attrition is over. It can also shit on some positions where the challenge is to make it through completely with your own team (hope E4 if it exists prevents you to use this).
-Only 151 pokemon (and alolan forms) means that the game will seriously lack some types (only 2 dark types which are both alolan and 2 dragons one of which is alolan, 2 ghosts one of which is alolan) as well as putting the focus once again in the same pokemon. Not being able to obtain a Crobat makes the zubat line eve more annoying now. A big fat DISAPOINTMENT.
-Coop. It looks GREAT. I do not have someone to play coop with, but being able to would greatly help play with your children, SO, people that jsut want to start. I hope it stays and you are able to teach people how to play with this.

My final opinion
-The main thing that makes pokemon great was not only "catching them all" (which is still something that is possible as they have made it easier every single time to catch all pokemon in your region), but being able to use those pokemon and fight with your friends. This game seems to try and focus more on the catching part while dumbing down the combat part severely instead of trying to bridge the competitive chasm.
-The game target audience is not me but rather a more casual crowd that comes from Pokemon Go. I can easily get why they would be excited but I would have hoped that the bridge to the more "hard" games was better done. This type of game will not make it easy for new players to go play next year's game (if it is inspired by previous games).

To so many Gen 1 players in here
No, most of the community does not hate Gen 1 Pokemon. We are just annoyed with the huge emphasis it has had since gen 6 (all after you guys made a huge vent over not having any available gen 1 pokemon in the first part of BW!! -> EDIT: not all of you, but rather a very vocal minority) which hurts the future of the franchise. An important part of why so many of you enjoy Gen 1 so much is due to nostalgia, there are million of children whose first game was not in Kanto and love other pokemon, a focus on pandering always to a certain audience instead of completely celebrating the whole story of the franchise hurts other fans.
There are reasons why long term fans are disapointed on not seeing their favourite pokemon in the game at all, making fun of them and seeing those criticisms as invalid is as toxic as you guys think we are when we "hate" gen 1 pokemon (again 99% of the cases we dont, we are just annoyed with their oversized presence). Do not be a genwinner please.

To Joe
Serebii Can you share some of the vodka? I think I also need a small hug.

Edit: Online is necessary in pokemon. Hope the reports of it being in are right

I don't think you don't understand how long a game takes to make. It's not like these were jsut thought of a few months ago and quickly rushed together to have a game in the fall.
Sure I understand, but given how they've presented us with these games I have little doubt the original title alluded to on E3 2017 is in fact the 2019 title. They would have made the deciscion to make these in 2017 after E3. Pure speculation of course, but it just reeks of that.

So is this the Pokemon game we're waiting for? I don't know much about Pokemon but I'm interested in buying it if it's a jrpg. Does it play like one? Do I need to buy that ball thing or am I good with just the game? Do I need to use the phone as well? And why are there 2 games?

So many questions, yes. I really know nothing of Pokemon and if a kind person can answer I'd appreciate it.

- Still a JRPG.

- No need to buy the ball accessory or to play Pokemon Go. It is a nice plus but is in no way mandatory.

- There are two games to promote the social aspect of the game. You will only need one and will need to trade (locally or online) to get the few exclusive Pokemon in the other version.

I'm actually pretty surprised I'm hearing so many people say they dislike the random encounters this intensely

Well, if this is the road thay want to follow with the franchise then good on them, this game will probably sell a lot, but losing the fans that followed the games for more than 20 years to chase the ones that only liked the first game doesnt sound smart.

This is a new branch of the RPG series for casual players.

The generation 8 game is coming next year. If you want the hardcore experience then you can just ignore this game like all the previous Pokémon spinoffs.

So, is it confirmed that Pikachu and Eevee can't evolve? If so, I have to go with pikachu, since I don't want to be stuck with Eevee for the whole of the game.
