I recommend buying USUM instead of this if y ou don't have it yet. It'll last for more than a year.

Here's the thing, not every game is gonna appeal to you. Does Pokepark, Hey You Pikachu, or Pokemon Channel appeal to you? Probably not. They have their audiences and the main game is coming next year.

You wouldn't want the main game this year it would suck if it was rushed that fast, this is a game to tide us over for now. You don't have to like or buy it really. Me personally this is fantastic and I love all of what they are doing.

I've felt the games got way too complex and bloated in recent years and with this I can just have a simple game to pick up and play and have fun. I love the motion controls too, I've been wanting to throw a Pokeball in-game ever since Wii.

It's also ok for people to vent their frustrations on the game as well.

Not sure if posted, but somebody compared old and new Kanto. Bottom two on the middle are Routes 14 and 5, respectively.

Gen 8 might suck because games journalists aren't being consistent with their reports on this small side game?
Okay.
Gen 8's been in developement since before the Switch released and they already said it won't be like this game and won't be influenced by GO, but will be moving forward from the handheld entries.

What I mean is that GF is a company stuck in the past, to the point that people aren't writing this off as confusion because they genuinely would release a game without online. It makes me less optimistic of the actual Gen 8 games being any good. And XY/SuMo being the way they are doesn't make things look any better, either.

Why does the IQ look like that. I thought it would look cleaner since the graphics aren't that demanding.

I was looking at the video and it seems way more accepted than what I'm seeing here and in other places since it has 62k in likes and 6k in dislike

So is VGC gonna use Ultra Sun for another year?

They could use this game if we can use the Pokémon Bank......unless that's hard-locked to only let Kanto Pokémon through.

While it's possible that you might be able to move Pokémon from this game into the mainline games, there's no information which currently suggests Let's Go will be capable of supporting full competitive battles with every Pokémon available. I strongly suspect the competitive stuff is going to ignore Let's Go entirely.

The really amazing thing here is:
  • This game's existence and release this year, and the release of Gen 8 next year, means more dev time for Gen 8. The biggest issue with Gens 6 and 7 were how rushed, unoptimizable, and content starved they were, so this extra year is already a great thing
  • The release of this game is proof that Game Freak understands the larger casual audience can't necessarily be served by the core games, and is therefore an indication that the Gen 8 games might not be dumbed down'
  • These games coming first means that the growing pains of HD development will be out of the way with these ones, and that the Gen 8 Pokemon games will be stronger for not being subjected to that
All of this sounds like it would be amazing news for all fans. But no, let's all get indignant in a blaze of righteous fury, how dare a spin off exist
I agree with much (if not all) of this. I'm also looking forward to it. I've never been huge into Pokemon. I've played some of the games here and there, but have never owned one. However, I have always been interested in the series and I know a lot about it, so this seems like it will be a great entry for me.

I don't really mind replaying Gen 1... I do not like the idea of no more random battles and the catching mechanic is fine only if battling is a requirement beforehand. If every wild pokemon encounter is just you throwing balls and trying to match up with the circle then I'm going to be very disappointed.

The people falling over themselves to offend this is even more interesting.

Yes. God forbid Pokemon fans display displeasure for a game within a series they enjoy. Again, nonsense like this would never pass if it were for another console. Could you imagine a PS4/X1/PC game with local-only multiplayer? Again, how is that excusable?

So I am reading the whole thread. But the information I am missing: what is the difference between the Eevee and Pikachu-version? Can't be that the only difference is the starter Pokémon? And putting select Pokémon only in one version is stupid because you can get every Pokémon you want from GO? So what are the differences?

Wonder if Ash is gonna bum around at Kukui and Burnett's for another year, or go home

Well I think the game looks interesting. As someone who isn't a big Pokemon fan I'm glad they're going back to a more simple formula, Sun and Moon just had too much going on for me to get into it. Seemed like a tutorial would pop up explaining something every 5 minutes.

I'm not too familiar with Eevee but it looks super cute so I think I'll get that version.

The game looks pretty but it seems pretty lame and feels like a step backwards for the franchise.

Also not a fan of incorporating pokemon go mechanics.

Hopefully the games supposedly coming next year will be more hype. Seems like the brand new Pokemon being teased for this game will lead us into gen 8 somehow, so that's cool.

But I'll probably pass on this.

It's no bait. This game is targeted at gaga googoo babies who may not even have the physical strength to hold a Switch.

It's not that they made catching like Pokémon Go... they made it EXACTLY like Pokémon Go. No innovation, no mix up, just copies a mechanic from a completely different game and tossed it in.

Only Game Freak would make the world's easiest RPG and then think, " We need to go dumber."

This. They went from ruining ORAS and making it, in my opinion the Sonic 06 of the Pokemon main series to... This. But at least i have a feeling they won't mess up the originals like ORAS did as the originals had barely anything to do to begin with, unless they remove the game corner, cut out cerulean cave (though that's already confirmed to be in) or remove the E4 in favor of a final battle with the rival due to fears it'll be too hard for kids.

God forbid people conduct themselves and their opinions without meltdowns and acting like people can't enjoy this.

Everyone throwing so much hate because they are not getting things exactly as they want them.
People running around the net trying to find others who hate so they can feel better about it.
People calling Game Freak all kinds of names...
People using "its for kids" like it is some kind of insult because they need their highbrow Pokemon....
Pokemon people. Fucking Pokemon.
"meh meh meh this group on 456/r/chan/youtube comments hates it too"
Reality is it looks great.
Online/offline whatever it will be fun and if you have people over they can jump in which is pretty sweet. (Oh but the poor shut ins and basement dwellers......)
This is a first Swing, and will bring more users in and more sales for the Switch.
Not only that when people see the limited Switch Console, the Switch Carrying case, the Amibos.... This thing prints money.
And not to be a total dick, but this is Nintendo...they still have alot to learn about online and that is most likely why Game Freak had to give up on alot of online ideas.

its not replacing those games. Looks more like an extra cute version of pkmn Yellow which is alright as a different kind of game in between

Hmm... Has there ever been a single screen multiplayer JRPG (or RPG in general) that worked well?

Even Tales has multiplayer only in battles, and not all Tales games implement multiplayer battles well.

Besides the multiplayer, I think the game looks pretty good, though. As long as it has a good singleplayer campaign, I'll be interested in checking it out. I like the Pokeball accessory, which seems like it's basically the PokeWalker 2.0.
