Man, I realize there was nothing else they could feasibly do, but the Lindsay scenes are a bummer. It's really jarring. Honestly, they should probably have considered turning this season into an animated show and get that and the scheduling issues out of the way.

Fuck. I don't think I can watch this. AD Seasons 1-3 is my favorite comedy series of all time. I fucking adore it. Season 4 was a massive disappointment, with a relatively slow pace and jokes being stretched out for too long. The remix didn't help much, and only showed that the writing just wasn't as good as the first three seasons anyway. Oh, and the new characters were irritating.

I was really hoping for a return to form for season 5. Sounds like my issues remain and I'm kind of too scared to even give it a shot.

This season actually keeps a tight focus on the original cast members (Bluths et al) and their banter feels so much like the original run. Steve Holt continues to be the Most Improved Player, who's evolved from George Michael's Hodor-esque romantic rival to the most tragically likeable character on the show. Maebe's whole storyline is great, and Jessica Walter crushes every scene.

But man, having so little Lindsay really hurts in a way I wasn't prepared for. :( It even retroactively redeems much of S4 by contrast.

Just finished Episode 5. Getting some laughs out of me but this feels worse than Season 4 in a lot of ways.

Feel like they're trying to get cringe laughs out of having characters rant for way way too long. It's not working.

Ugh, my Netflix app says the new episodes are available, but there's no Season 5 option. Same thing happened with Santa Clarita Season 2, I think I just had to wait. (I'm in the US.)

Lame.

Hoping things pick up after the first two episodes. So far almost everything has felt off to me.

I definitely liked Season 5 a lot more than Season 4 but not as good as 1-3. A lot of entertaining moments. I just sat and watched them all instantly after coming home from work. Definitely looking forward to the second half.

Also, damn Maeby is super hot this season.

GOB does look a lot different from season 4 but I think that's because he was crazy fit when they filmed that. He looks 30 lbs heavier at least.

Three episodes in. A few thoughts:

-Maybe it's because of recent behind-the-scenes events coming to light, but the chemistry between much of the cast feels a bit off.

-The show really benefits from a tighter pacing of 22-ish hour episodes. I'm disappointed that not all episodes in the season look to keep that runtime.

-it's pretty clear that Portia still couldn't commit to filming with everyone else, and the integration is awkward as hell.

-I like how they seem to be aware and mocking of relience on references to past episodes. Such as the Total Regression bit, even if the framing was a bit random. That said, the Spanish "Mr. F" got probably the biggest laugh from me so far.

-This is way funnier than Season 4 on average. I've gotten a few genuine chuckles, and it feels closer to the original 3 seasons in tone.

Even in season 4, it feels like Tobias is wasted on the whole DiBrie storyline. I feel like it overstayed its welcome and never really paid off.

Watched the first 3. It wanders for a bit, but once the family gets back together (minus lindsey D:) it really starts to settle into a pretty comfortable pace. Really good stuff so far.

Just finished. Wonder why they felt it was worth releasing as a half-season, let alone dividing it with that ending.

Kinda a weird half-season.. The S4 recut being fresh in my mind has made me kinda feel 'meh' about the storyline this season, it is so meandering, I was hoping for more quick time jumps to get out of the corner they wrote themselves into.

The perceivable age difference of michael cera in episode 1, from the 'punching' scene S4 footage to the new S5 continuation was jarring as hell.

Kyle Mooney is the worst addition to the cast, not sure why they even bothered with him.

Buster was criminally wasted in these episodes, but was the best part of any one he was in.

and ugh,Dubris.. I thought we were passed this.

There were some good moments, and I hope the second half turns it around to make this first half pay off.

I'm 4 episodes in and ehhhhhh... still feels off from the original season. They don't tone down Michael's flaws, but he still isn't the straight man they used to bounce the other characters off. I'm not sure why they're still insisting on having every character re-evaluate their life and have personal story arcs AGAIN. Just throw a stupid scenario at them every episode ffs. Pacing is better, at least.

I have two episodes left after thinking I wasn't going to watch and I wish I had stuck to my guns. This is pretty awful.

Some parts are actually pretty funny, but I'm not really having as much fun as I am for the previous seasons. Maybe because I binge watched/rewatched everything else the other week? Not to mention the awful NYT stuff that happened.

Also, I gotta laugh at the lengths they go to make De Rossi look like she's actually in her scenes haha

(^But seriously, it sucks because there's just zero of the dialogue dynamic she had with the other characters that was present in previous seasons.)

We watched three. I barely remember S4, and the recap and flashbacks only helped so much. We found the story so far pretty damned confusing with characters bouncing back and forth between the US and Mexico, along with the weird timeline stuff. There's some amusing, funny bits, but also a lot of awkwardness. There's also something simply damaging about the reliance on greenscreen during certain sequences because it eliminates any kind of fun set work or blocking. Instead you get locked off shots of characters sitting in chairs. Part of the confusion is also the continued chaos of giving each and every character barely intersecting storylines, so maybe as those hopefully reintegrate, it'll be easier to follow the wacky plot machinations.

Agree that E5 is the real start of the season.

DeRossi leaving really wrecked the planned storylines.

Watched the first 3 and I'm... really not feeling it so far to be honest. And I liked the original cut of 4

I'll still watch the rest though because its Arrested Development

watched first two. This show has been pretty off since Netflix revived it tbh. The first three seasons were snappy and just had so many jokes land right after another.

I thought it was the lack of character interaction that made season 4 a dud for me, but going into this one where they improved on that. its still pretty mediocre. Hurwitz just doesn't have it anymore. anyways I'm gonna finish it. I liked a few of the Gob scenes and George Michael's 'authentic Mexican' getaway.

also god damn its so convoluted too. the old seasons had a lot going on as well but it flowed together. here they rely on like 5 minute Ron Howard voiceovers and it is still a bit hard to follow

I don't know if I watched season 4. Should I watch the original or this recut version?
The remix for sure, i like the original but the new version is an improvement in almost every way (it can be a little recap heavy).
Did she have prior commitments? Or did she request to be out?
She retired from acting, she was convinced to come back by Mitch Hurwitz but its thought she was only available later in production, she did make a joke saying she may come back for season 6 if they ask, but she may have not been serious. Shes started her own business (http://www.generalpublic.art/) and has dedicated a large portion of her time to opening a wildlife preserve with her wife.

Having finished the season I'm confused about the timeline. So obviously the original three seasons happened in real time (2003-2006) and then season 4 happens over the course of the next six years, culminating on Cinco de Cuatro 2012. Season 5 apparently happens in 2015 as there are several specific references to this year like the Trump stuff. So there's a three year time jump between seasons 4 and 5 that, as far as I can tell, is largely unaddressed in the story? For example Gob and Tony Wonder have their night together and then spend the next three years avoiding each other? Lucille Austero disappeared three years ago and nobody's found her yet? Lucille Austero and Lindsay are running for office in 2012 and the election still hasn't happened three years later? I must be missing something.

Rebel mentioned she was 2 months in Mexico by the time she comes back into the story (and thus she hadn't seen George Michael for that long), and there were no timeskips after that.

The half-season finale takes places on July 2nd, which is just under 2 months from the 4th of May.

Either Trump is actually running for President in 2012 in this universe or S4 moved from 2012 to 2015.

Is this not out on Japanese Netflix? It still only shows up to Season 4... :(

It's absolutely ridiculous that not only is it not available, they haven't made any comment about when it will be available.
Could be tomorrow, could be 5 years down the road.

Don't bother waiting, just go with a VPN.
I went with the NordVPN free 3-days trial myself.

The narrator specifically says the season is taking place in 2015 at one point, as does George Michael. I was aware of the two month jump which would definitely make sense if it's between May and July. The problem is that if season 4 takes place in 2015 instead of 2012, that adds an additional three years to every character's storyline and specifically creates continuity errors with certain characters like George Michael and Maeby who were mentioned as being in college/high school for specific amounts of time.

I guess it's ultimately not a big deal, just unusually sloppy by AD standards.

There isn't supposed to be a 3 year time jump according to the dialog in the season.

So we just got to accept that:

1) S4 and S5 take place a few months apart within the same year
2) S4 and S5 take place in 2012 and 2015 respectively

Are simultaneously true.

Agreed that it's quite sloppy by AD standards.

I just remembered that they do sort of handwave/reference the timeline confusion when Buster tells Michael "you've been gone for years" and Michael replies "I was gone two months."

After the first 3 episodes, I'm not quite feeling this yet. Had like one chuckle, and that's right after loving the Season 4 Remix weeks prior.
