The bit were they're throwing Han into the pit with the "beast" (chewie) at the beginning and they mention that he hasnmt been fed in days, I take it that it's implying that Chewbacca eats people right?

Going in for showing #2, seems to be pretty empty in the IMAX. But the theater in general doesn't seem pretty busy.

That was an EXCELLENT movie. Way better than the abominations of Rogue One and Last Jedi. That definitely felt like a Star Wars movie and I really appreciate it didn't have a lot of those cheesy Disney comedy one liners

I enjoyed the movie I liked everybody in it even L3 but I feel like the ton of references/call-backs/winks/nods/etc held the movie back.

I would have rather it tried to be bold and new with its story than play it safe and rely on Star Wars lore to make the movie.

Do a origin film and in the sequel do a movie for the fans about the Kessel Run. The movie did not do anything new to me other than introduce Crimson Dawn and the characters associated with it

That said I want to see the face of that smug Star Wars fan that laughed, applauded, cheered, understood every reference in the film.

I saw this today. I had super low expectations and thought this was really fantastic and fun. I'd love more Star Wars movies like this. Just such a fun adventure film. I loved all of the characters. This is a series I didn't know I wanted!

If I had one major knock on the film, it was that the first half in particular was rushed. Which is my general issue with the new films, where they are written and shot as if in a rush to get to the next bullet point, rather than building things up properly.

Solo was probably the best in that regard however.

I'm still happy there wasn't a scene that I absolutely couldn't wait to be over in this film like the rathtars in 7 or Canto Bight in 8. It was smooth the whole time for me. Nothing really broke my immersion and made me go, "this doesn't feel like star wars to me."
I agree...though the giant octo-space meatball in the maelstrom was a bit much. But it didn't last long.

I did like everything i saw from Corelia and I liked the origin of his name only for them to undermine it when Han and Lando had a conversation about family. So which is it, Han has a family or don't?

I guess the consequences of having 2 directors, it seems odd Han just left it all behind once he found Qi'ra

Han and Chewie had great chemistry. Lando and Qira were okay. Beautifully shot and that Maul reveal was pretty dope. Enfys Nest was really cool as well.

Just saw it, thought it was pretty good. Some thoughts

-Overall the performances were all better than I expected. Alden and Emilia actually had good chemistry and filled their roles well, while Bettany, Harrelson, and Donald Glover all shone in their respective roles
-Some of the references were nuts, like Qi'ra knowing Teras Kasi
-Didn't like the Darth Maul reveal. Felt completely out of nowhere within the story of the film and like setup for an Obi-Wan solo movie. Anything they do with the character can only pale in comparison to how they handled him in Clone Wars/Rebels
-Liked how we got to see a pristine Millenium Falcon and then over the course of the movie see it become the banged up piece of junk we know and love
-The nods towards the original trilogy were too frequent and on the nose for my liking (Oh, there's a big shot gangster on Tatooine? Oh, you think he'll change his mind about the Rebellion? Oh, we're doing the holographic chess board reference again?
-L3 is lovely, and that is all. Disney Droids stay winning along with BB-8 and K2-SO

Overall there were a ton of little things that kept my interest over the course of the film, but nothing truly special enough to warrant me outright recommending it. Ultimately the thing keeping me from just praising it and calling it good is the fact that I never felt invested enough in the story to truly care about what was happening, like it was all just a bunch of randoms playing Star Wars instead of people living in the Star Wars universe. If I had to give a reason I'd say that the events of the film feel a little too pre-planned and laid out for the audience: none of the betrayals felt surprising, the big heist went pretty much exactly as I expected with no real surprises, every death was a little too expected (in particular how they played out), and everything seemed to go a little too smoothly for the heroes w/regards to battles and fights. I felt like the big audience pops (Han and Chewie meeting for the first time, Han flying the Falcon for the first time, Han and Lando meeting, etc.) never really connected, I just sort of felt like "Oh yeah, I guess that's how it happened then." That's not to say the film was bad, in fact it was watchable, well-shot, and entertaining. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't feel the need to see it again or really dig into it like I did with TLJ, or heck, even RO even though I liked it about the same (if I had to compare I'd say that RO has higher highs and lower lows, and that Solo is just a little bit more consistent and thus better). Apologies if that feels a little imprecise, but those are my immediate feelings.

It was fine, I'm not a star wars fan and never even saw the original trilogy so I didn't have that feeling of giddiness, cringe, or indifference when they made references but there was a couple times I KNEW they were making a reference based on how something was shot.

I got a couple chuckles, loved Glover's performance, liked Chewie. Nothing overtly bad to talk about, it just didn't do anything to make me feel like it was more than just okay.

I didn't think this movie needed to be made and hated the idea from the very beginning. Still, I went in with an open mind and zero expectations. I thought it sucked. It's easily my least favorite Star Wars film (I'd take any of the prequels or Rogue One over it any day).

I can't believe just how much it came across as a rote, soulless cash grab. Star Wars Stories were a mistake.

- Boring.
- Never once believed Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. Like, every time a character called him Han, I had to stop to remind myself that this was in fact supposed to be a Han Solo film.
- I didn't think Donald Glover was convincing as Lando either. (his Lando was better than Alden's Han though)
- Rushed and unearned character development.
- Bad lighting. Way too dark.
- Uninspired action scenes.
- The humor almost never landed (barely anyone in my theater laughed).
- So that's why he's named Solo!
- So that's how he got his blaster!
- So that's how the Millennium Falcon broke its nose!
- So that's how/why/when, etc. etc. etc.

+ Thandie Newton always elevates whatever she's in
+ Emilia Clarke wasn't half bad??
+ Phoebe Waller-Bridge-bot
+ Lightsaber-dagger-edge
+ MOTHA FUCKIN DARTH MAUL!? (why did he turn on his lightsaber tho lol)

I liked The Last Jedi

Is there any information out there regarding why the brightness of this film is turned down so low? It was distracting and it certainly didn't help that most of the film takes place in dark or gloomy places.
I enjoyed Solo, but the choice to have everything so dim and colorless was annoying. Especially the shots that were essentially backlit. I could hardly see anything in my showing. But overall I enjoyed the movie, but it may not be that memorable.

Honestly, Disney should have just cgi-ed young Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams like they did with Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One.

Pretty good flick overall, better than expected. Looked beautiful and had great action. Was a bit predictable and I felt little emotional investment though. Ehrenreich was surprisingly pretty good, and so was Clarke! 7/10.

This is an awful idea.

It was a decent summer blockbuster. Definitely not as good as Rogue One and The Last Jedi for me, but I enjoyed it about as much as The Force Awakens. Hate that L3 was pretty much wasted in this movie though.

Saw it today and went in with low expectations since the trailer didn't do much for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The film started to drag a little towards the middle but picked back up. I didn't care for L3 or the villain much but thought everyone else was great. Loved how they introduced Chewie and the Darth Maul scene was pretty cool. Overall I think I had more fun with this than I did Last Jedi.

We saw it today and pretty much loved it. Very tight pace, good adventure, good characters. Felt like every moment was essential. Leaps and bounds better than TLJ.

If I had to pick at something it would be that L3 was just terrible.

The tide of the universe switched because the dark side took power and the Jedi were not there to take it back. It doesn't matter how great the rebels are, without a Jedi they can't beat dark side forceusers. .

But they can beat force users. Just like the clone troopers beat ALL the force users....without using the force. Their have always been only two evil force users, and it really wasn't by using the force that they beat the god knows how many jedi.

Just watched it. It was kinda boring. Wasn't a bad film at all, just boring. Seems like it will be the most forgettable Star Wars movie ever. Nothing memorable about it at all. This was definitely a movie that didn't need to be made and would've worked great as a TV series. Hans actor wasn't bad, but not even once did I think that he was Han Solo. Glover was ok. Emilia Clarke did a great job for all the shit she gets. Everyone else was just fine.

The whole theater clapped and whistled after it ended which confused the hell out of me. Was it just my theater or was this movie waaaaaaay too dark? Like nothing stood out. Only thing was that ending forest place. I liked this better then TLJ but Star Wars fatigue is definitely setting in for me. They really need to change up the settings with these movies. Getting tired of the gritty, dark, sandy locations. Overall it was a decent film that I probably wont ever watch again.

It had some ups and downs. But overall I liked it. Thought the Maul thing opened up some new stuff. Easily my least favorite of the Disney Star Wars. But I didn't feel like it sucked or anything.

User Banned (3 Days): Using the term "gay" pejoratively.
They completely misinterpreted lando. He's a suave smooth talking ladies man but in this movie he comes across as like a flamboyant gay dude. I thought Alden was fine as young Han and the Darth Maul cameo was totally pointless and cheesy.

The twist where the maurader turned out to be some kid was bad too and dragged the movie down. First half of the film was good though.

Was the light in this film super bad and dark or was it my theater needing to put a new lamp in their projector? It was super dark and the blacks looked awful. The whole movie felt like someone forgot to take a filter off the lens

I didn't for a second think Lando was "gay". The fluid talk was grossly over exaggerated.

Nothing about his actions in the movie implied he was gay, IMO. And it wouldn't even matter if that was the case. He was still suave and smooth talking, to literally everyone he interacted with in the movie.

So when does Solo take place in the cannon? Before Rogue One but after Episode 3?

Yes, 10 years after RotS/9 years before RO.

Just got back from my second showing with a group of four who hadn't seen it before. They all enjoyed it and thought it is bizarre that it's not doing well at the box office. One guy hadn't seen Rogue One and he's going to go watch it on Netflix once he gets home because he liked this so much.

The emperor was clouding the force, the Jedi were blind to the evil growing right under their nose. And yeah a galaxy wide ambush where they get shot in the back is how you beat Jedi. It was a genius plan, executed perfectly and it's why Palpatine and the prequels were so interesting.

The force users are the main characters and the power players in this series, always have been.
